Too bad he doesn't come with trample built in... too bad it is also really difficult to give him trample as well Personally I would rather run Lord of Extinction over Multani, but that is just me it is however unfortunate that Lord of Extinction cannot be used as a General

"As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero." -- Varsuvius, Order of the Stick
Volrath the Fallen. Hes a mere Draco away from 1 shot. That being said even with other lesser cost cards he can get there for insane damage turn after turn.

The devil's in the detail. BSkithiryx, the Blight DragonB GAzusa, Lost but SeekingG
I think one of the best Generals for dealing General Damage with... is any General with a decent evasive ability + Hatred but that is primarily more useful in a 1v1 match than it is in multi-player

"As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero." -- Varsuvius, Order of the Stick
EDH/Commander is a social format, right? So why don't people use their social skills to discuss what they like and don't like, instead of adopting a list with 60+ banned cards?
I have been using her all summer, check out my sig. The idea is to get her out turn 2 (rare) or 3 (almost every time) and then just beat w/ her, and have countermagic back up, along w/ silly stuff like rafiq of the many, lightning greaves, umezawa's jitte, berserk, and other great pumps and tactics
I love this deck for 1 on 1, i have yet to lose to any non blue deck
Um, that's kinda how Zur wins every time. It looks something like this...
Turn 1: Land
Turn 2: Land, Signet/Talisman
Turn 3: Land, Zur the Enchanter
Turn 4: Attack, find Diplomatic Immunity, leave mana open for counter/draw (-1)
Turn 5: Land, Attack, find Empyrial Armor, leave mana open for counter/draw (-6~)
Turn 6: Attack, find Battle Mastery, leave mana open for counter/draw (-14~) GG
The thing that makes Zur so dangerous is that his ability requires absolutely no mana investment whatsoever. Unlike Uril or Jenara that requires you spending mana beyond playing your general. Zur can go about his business finding broken pump/protection/removal enchantments without having to compromise available mana for countermagic/card advantage. The enchantment suite also typically allows him to have an answer to virtually everything.
the problem w/ doran the siege tower is his lack of evasion, he can be chump blocked until the player stabalizes
Like Rafiq, this guy's in colours that can support a whole bunch of trample/evasion stuff. Sure it's not as good as say all of Rafiq's "god auras" from shadowmoor, but it's still good. If the deck's focus is 21, then the support will come with it, even if it is might of oaks + some way of making trample (orprotectionforthatmatter) happen. Doran gets stronger removal in black with a slower clock, whereas Rafiq's got countermagic with blue.
Uril and Zur are the most resilient of them, though Rafiq is the clear winner in being the most explosive and fastest (clocking in at consistent turn 5 kills).
Yeah, my Godo, Bandit Warlord deck can do 21 pretty quickly. It plays mana flare, extraplanar lens, gauntlet of might, and (soon) gauntlet of power. That means Godo comes out pretty quick, often with haste, and can hit for a ton.
Rafiq is probably the best, both because his ability is sick, and his color combination has got a real boost over the last 2 years of sets. There's just so many great cards in his colors.
Still though, I like the flexibility of Godo, how you can grab SoFI, SoLS, Jitte, or whatever is the best for the situation. His extra cmc is a point against him, but with enough mana accel, he's easy enough to replay, and the tutoring means he gets more tools each time.
I realize no one really likes him, but Malfegor does a pretty damned good job at getting to 21 damage relatively quickly. He probably isn't "the best", but he is MY FAVORITE.
I agree with you about Malfegor. I play Anthem of Rakdos in my deck, and if I cast that and than Malfegor it ends games quickly.
recently i put together a rafiq the many deck mostly just to play around with my CitP deck i was itching to put together. the deck itself ends up being an engine upon itself, drawing land dropping etc and really our play group has like 4 jenara players so i decided to try out a different bant general... little did i know the explosive power it would have.
1- seaside citadel
2- breeding pool coiling oracle (dropping in a plains)
3- Island rafiq the many
4- Island finest hour swing once for 10 general damage, second combat swing for an additional 14 knocking 1 person out...
I can't imagine how badass he would be with a deck DESIGNED around utilizing him would be... equipment/enchants for unblockability and pump ups from green... hell i've seen him drop two ppl out of a single game with the use of mirror entity and finest hour which was really helped by the fact that two people at the table were running tribal themes... (elf deck giving him forest walk and shroud (thanks eladamri) and zombies giving out +1/+1s and swamp walk (woot zombie master/lord of the undead).
Hell i know this thread is about knocking out general damage but lets not overlook the fact that even if he can't get through he's turned some flying dust elementals into real hellions.

Discard Brawn to my Survival of the Fittest?
I'd guess that Scion of the Ur-Dragon would be good, but the guy that runs it has a pretty shaky manabase (Vorosh, the Hunter + Dragon Tyrant = candy!).

Scion of the Ur-Dragon use it make it Dragon Tyrant so 1 or 2 turns after hitting play.
Akroma, Angel of Fury Your deck needs a lot of mana ramp like Sol Ring and Grim Monolith to get it out as soon as you can. 2 turns after hitting play.

agreed, my old Scion deck was pretty nasty if i stuck a scion. 'tutor' him into a dragon tyrant with a couple of sources of red available.
The second he attacks, you're pretty much ****ed.

Most of the best generals for combat damage have been mentioned already: Zur the Enchanter, Rafiq of the Many, Uril the Miststalker, Akroma, Angel of Fury, Isamaru, Hound of Konda, Scion of the Ur-Dragon
Current EDH Decks:
G Multani, Maro-Sorcerer
B Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed
GU Momir Vig, Simic Visionary
