My problem with Erayo is that if she/her essence is removed somehow, you've got to save up on spells again to play and flip her. Sure she can come online turn 2 or 3 but you have to fill your deck with otherwise weak spells that are simply cheap to cast. Teferi on the otherhand can utilize all of the best spells in blue, regardless of casting cost, and improves your gameplan by leaving you countermagic open with the ability to drop a threat if there is nothing else going on. Not to mention that he flashes himself and pushes your issues by not permitting your opponents to respond to your spells with theirs. IMO Erayo is geared towards more of a combo archetype, see Mana Maze and Painter's Servant.
Idk if anybody has atually put it out there but i think that Azami, Lady of Scrolls is a very good blue general. I don't know if it would b the best to everybody else but it is in my opinion just becuz of the major card draw. As for everything else, no competition.
White:8.5
Red: Heartless Hidestugu
Black: Braids (i hate to play against it but its still a good deck)
Green: Rofellos (i haven't seen anybody play a general other than Rofellos as a Mono Green becuz he is so good.)
Is it possible to have Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician sacrifice two Plains to create two 1/1 black Lizard tokens? Yes. And until you have tried doing so, how can you judge the level of efficiency that doing so holds?

Well, there have been some good points made for each of the generals. I've been thinking; since the race is so close in some cases, maybe I should add an "Honorable Mention" under each of the generals that are eventually deemed best for each color. Either that, or separate them into "Best Multiplayer Generals" and "Best 1v1 Generals" (since that's what some of the discussions are based around).
My ultimate goal, as I said before, is to compile a list of the best generals that can serve as a reference to new players (and old alike) when picking out a new general. The more I think about it, having categories (multi/1v1) seems like the way to go since some people only play EDH one way or the other.

Thoughts? Votes?
I'm not sure who is crazy enough to do this, but maybe you should make a list of every general in certan color combinations that way people can know what they're voting on. For the most part it would seem people will vote for what other have already said rather than looking through each card and deciding. This will also help new players know what generals are in which colors.
I think that a split between 1v1 and multi player is good. It really is the deciding factor in best generals. Isamaru in multi is much less powerful that 1v1, and braids is nuts in 1v1 and just ok elsewhere. Make it easy on people, go both ways.
i would have to agree that the 1v1 and multi should split. There are a lot of factors that affect this like Braids is rly good 1v1 cuz its only a 1 turn split before you can play braids again if it is destroyed right after the enemy. but in mulit player, u might have to wait 2 or 3 turns and allow ppl to actually start to succeed. And the same goes for other generals who are big and take a lot to play and takes a lot of turns to get the right finishing combo. In multi, its fine because they will focus on other ppl if you don't have board control and in 1v1, its bad cuz they only focus on you. SO...
1v1

Ok everybody, I've just finished editing the first post to detail how I'm going to be setting up the list. Pretty simple really; I'm just making two different lists of best generals, one for duels and one for multiplayer. This should help us decide more easily which is better for each. Once we seem to have reached some sort of consensus on the mono colored generals, we'll be able to move on to the 2 color generals. So let's get some more votes to see where we stand!
Remember, two lists - one for Best Multiplayer General, one for Best Dueling General
p.s.
The lists in the first post are just examples, the final ones will look a lot better.
can you have a "fun general" section under there as well? A lot of these generals are broken and unfun, although the best, I don't believe EDH is about the "best," it's about having fun in a casual environment, and Erayo lock is not fun =/
as for choices
Single
U: Erayo
B: Braids
G: Roffellos
R: Heartless
W:... Eh.... Lin Sivvy? I'm not savvy on white
Multi
U:Azami or Erayo or Kira, the Great Glass Spinner
B:PHAGE!!! lulz, ummm I'm actually not sure
G:Rofellos
R:Heartless
W:Ninetales teh pokermanz =D
Each of these is, of course, still up for discussion, but I thought for now we could get on to discussing the best two-color generals. This list is going to be pretty long, considering we're now basically doing two lists, and there are 10 different categories.
So, how about some lists of best 2-color generals? I know this is a HUGE category, and probably the largest part of the list, so you don't have to give a full list, but please be specific about what part of the list you're voting on. We have ally color combinations(5), and enemy colors(5); multi or duel.
Cool, thanks Risk. That's a good example of what I'm looking for. I actually agree with most of your list - especially Wort, Boggart Auntie for duels; absolutely devastating, and it(mine) can combo out on turn 4/5 rather consistently.

@stormcloud17 - The mono-color general list is still up for discussion/debate - I've actually been thinking about the Hidetsugu. He's definitely the best multiplayer general, but I think Ashling the Pilgrim, or Jaya Ballard, Task Mage might be better for duels.
And I've always thought the same thing about Malfegor......please, PLEASE discard your entire hand.
Though they don't seem to be that popular (I'm the only one that's put up a list for Wort, Boggart Auntie), EDH goblins have incredibly explosive potential. I've actually combo'ed out and won on turn 4 with my goblin deck.
I have to stand up for Lin-Sivvi, Defiant Hero. The comments a few pages back that questioned her strength are way off base, especially when you use her in a duel. I've seen my friend's Lin-Sivvi deck win turn 5, and a consistent turn-7 or so is almost guaranteed, with the deck being almost totally immune to counters, wrath-effects, and other aggro decks. The secret to the deck is to run a ton of land and mirror entity, along with a good number of other rebels. She can also easily do infinite life-gain and more. Truly a great general.
And I've always thought the same thing about Malfegor......please, PLEASE discard your entire hand.
"Play Malfegor and discard my entire hand of 4 lands. Everyone sac 4 guys. I'll pay 7 life for Necropotence and refill my hand."
Honestly, if you build around him correctly, Malfegor can be one of the most powerful generals. In colors that thrive in spot removal, having a mass removal spell that's recurring, well that's just ridiculous. I've not played a Malfegor deck, but I've considered building one.

You could be right on that - I can see him being a good general, but not better than Kaervek for multi or Wort for duels.
Anyone else think Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero is the best mono white general for duels? Also, there were a number of votes for Azami, Lady of Scrolls for blue - is she better for multi or duels? - or just keep it the same?

I still vote Lin-Sivvi as the best mono white general for both. Azami is great in multiplayer since she just buries people in card advantage but I think Erayo is still king of 1v1.
Depending on the build. It doesn't really matter whether you are against one person or many. The only thing that changes is that they have the possibility of more answers. But regardless if you get a hand that can flip Erayo turn 2 and then lay down some prison card(s), which isn't very hard to do at all, then the rest of the opponents are going to have a very hard time doing anything.
The only bad thing of course is, you'll get hated out quickly. Because it's really either kill the Erayo deck or never get to play Magic. But it can stand the heat.
I know that Teeg is the hands-down winner for GW, but has anyone ever considered Saffi Eriksdotter? I know that it seems she sucks, but there's a guy in my area who combines her with crazy recursion (Genesis, etc.) and can lock down the game in a matter of turns through various combos. It's pretty sick, actually...
Other than that, I'd like to open more discussion as Dralnu, Lich Lord for the UB duel general. The reasoning for this is flashback is absolutely insane in a format of one-ofs.
The rest, I feel, have no competition.

Oh and btw, instead of using Mana Maze and Painter's Servant, just use Arcane Laboratory
Agreed.
Blue is Soratami
Black is Braids
Green is Rofellos.... really those are probally the 3 best mono colored generals.
