I know this is supposed to be a casual format, but I don't have any cards pre ravnica, so I'm not sure how to put together a deck. I don't feel like ordering cards for a casual deck.
When people start this format, is it usually just with their old boxes of cards, or do I really need to order some stuff?
It's casual, really you can choose all cards from newer sets. As long as you have no cards in the deck with mana symbols not in your general. For instance if your general is WGB, there can not be and U or R mana symbols in any card in your deck. Its ok for 2 players but really fun with 4.

Also, is 2 player EDH fun?
It depends on the people you intend to play with. You could get your playgroup to do Standard EDH decks or block EDH decks that way people aren't using cards the others don't have or you could do pauper or no-rare EDH (except the general) for another cheap alternative. Even if your playgroup wants to use the vintage cardpool you can make very good decks using the newer cards you have and then just pick up some of the really cheap common/uncommon staples. EDH is fun 1v1 but the decks are usually much different than the typical multiplayer builds.
well, you can always proxy cards up as long as your play group is ok with it.
What i usually do is look at the EDH compiled decklists that kingchewie and other people put together because there are some great ideas and cards that i didnt think of.
To be honest, i think this format is kinda cheap because all your buying or trading for are singles and not play sets, plus some cheap and unused rares really shine in this format.
Ive never played 2HG EDH with my play group so i cant say anything.

Hi there, good job looking to play edh!
It is primarily a casual format, so if you are playing multiplayer, what cards you have isn't too much of an issue. At my store, the pro players all go for each other first and the 10 year old kid with the haphazard deck wins by mopping up the dregs.
Also, if you look at the top5 generals (theres a thread around somewhere) nearly all of them are new-bordered. While some older cards are considered "staples" (Nevinyrral's Disk) there are more modern substitutes (Oblivion Stone) that you can use instead.
What I would recommend is to go on gatherer and find your favourite legendary creature. Find all the good cards from your collection in that generals colours, and then buy that general off someone. Congratulations! You now have an edh deck. Now you can plan what cards you want to get next, and unless you are an Uber-Spike, there is no need to order the whole deck off ebay. Just get 1 or 2 cards each time you go to the local card shop and your deck will get better and better.
2 Player EDH is fun, but because there is no political element, you really need a good deck to win. Also, a lot of generals that are great in multiplayer fall flat in one-on-one, and vice versa. So much so that if you want a 1 vs 1 EDH you pretty much have Rafiq as your general - he's that good.
Don't sweat trying to make a great deck. its very casual and you rly dont have to buy much because, like previously stated, crap rares are actually pretty good in this format now. And sense ur just beginning, i suggest NOT going for a mono colored deck becuz of the challenge you may face when trying to make one. (multi colored is sOooo much easier). And a lot of newer cards coming out are beginning to b some of the best generals. Usualy, you don't see very old generals. Take Uril for example...from the new set is a VERY good general just becuz he has Super shroud. And a lot of decks are a lot of commons and uncommons thrown together just becuz since its Multi (usually), if people thing you have bad cards or thing your deck isnt that good, they won't go for you first. Its very fun and good luck.
Is it possible to have Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician sacrifice two Plains to create two 1/1 black Lizard tokens? Yes. And until you have tried doing so, how can you judge the level of efficiency that doing so holds?

I've been playing Magic since Revised, but I noticed my friends playing EDH, however I didn't want to drop a bunch of money on it... but I did want to play. So I built a Horde of Notions deck with mostly commons and uncommons from the recent sets. There are a bunch of great cards that are easy to obtain to get you started. The nice part about Horde is that it's 5 colors so you can play any card that you want. As you go along, you can pick up cards in trades to add to your deck. But getting one together is surprisingly easy, even though it's 100 singleton cards. Keep in mind about 40 of it should be land... which leaves you only 60 cards. Believe me, the slots add up VERY quickly. Good luck!
