There are only 4 cards that I can't foil - Plateau (I have a mint German black-bordered revised copy) Catastrophe (too good to leave out) Phyrexian Processor (again, just too good...gotta have it) Land Tax (hopefully this will be in the new FTV:Exiled set *crosses fingers*)
I still need - Windswept Heath Bloodstained Mire (I have a foil Terramorphic Expanse as a placeholder right now...) Rugged Prairie
2 Unhinged Plains (I have 10 foil unhinged plains, and 12 foil unhinged mountains right now)
Land Tax
Swords to Plowshares
Maze of Ith (judge promo on the way)
Sol Ring (might order a judge promo)
....
sweet. You may want to hold off on that Sol Ring. It's rumored to be in the new FTV:E set along with land tax.
I'm jealous of your maze of ith ....where did you find it? I've seen scans, but I was told that it wasn't actually released yet (the information was admittedly from a somewhat apocryphal source).

A dealer had it at regionals. I got his info, mulled over what I wanted to pay, and then decided to get it last week.
I never really got into the whole foil thing. 80% of the time I prefer the nonfoil version, especially with newer cards where the foil is right over the art and completely obscures darker pictures.
But I'm kind of odd. I like the look of a mixed deck, with foils/nonfoils, black border/white border, old frame/new frame... especially with lots of white bordered stuff. I guess I like the opposite of a foiled out deck
the only point of foiling your deck is to jack up the price of your deck. i play 100% non foil cards. they are a little less durable IMO.

I didn't foil my deck to make cost more, I did it because I think it looks cooler. I made it cost when I bought The abyss. I don't think people do it on that reason alone. Yes, your deck is now worth more, but so what.

I am considering foiling out my Malfegor deck... my largest concern with getting foiled cards is not the expense (I do mind that, just not as much)... my largest concern is whether the cards will fade over time.
If it does turn out that the foils are fading, I will instantly switch back over to the original non-foils. I just don't like the prospect of spending that much money on foils only to have them start to fade on me, it is an unappealing prospect.

Aw, come on now DC! Can't worry about that sort of thing! Live for now! Enjoy them while they shine; if and when they fade, so be it. Who knows what the future holds? There may be an alien apocalypse and the only people they spare are the ones with foil EDH decks.....then won't you feel silly?
Of course, that's just the way I am. I used to collect action figures, which I would open so that I could pose them on my shelf. They lost all of their value, but I got more enjoyment out of them that way.
With 11 built decks at the moment I'd rather get better cards for some decks than to foil only one.
.....
That's definitely something to consider. I certainly could have built a number of cool decks for the money I spent on foils for Brion Stoutarm. But hey, it's my favorite deck, and my first EDH deck, so it's kind of different (ok, so not really....i'm just a dork).
I have a complete foil Invasion dragon deck not edh with a huge side board: ( it's a card drawing machine )
5 foil dragons
4 foil ruhk eggs
4 foil fact or fiction
4 accumulated knowledge
4 wall of blossoms
4 terminate
4 joiner adept
4 putrefy ( 2 in deck )
4 mortify ( 2 in deck )
1 legacy weapon
1 reya dawnbringer
1 vampiric tutor
1 rout
2 captain sisay
4 tranquil thicket
1 savage lands
4 grand coliseum
1 Minamo, school at water's edge
rest are basic lands (foil)
sideboard: ( not 15 cards )
4 city of brass
4 darksteel ingot
4 swords to plowshares
4 icy manipulators
4 blastoderm
4 psychotog
2 cromat
1 sphinx of the steel wind
1 bosh, iron golem
1 tsabo tavoc
1 insidious dreams
1 dark banishing
1 crosis's catacombs
1 krosan verge
1 terminal moraine
1 dust bowl
1 unstable frontier
1 pentad prism
these are all foils I saved that I could rework the deck over to suit my needs.
I have a whole bunch more that probably would never make the deck, although some are very good.
basically I have heard nasty rumors that foils that are handled and or exposed to enough light have natural light based fading over the course of a few years... and it is apparently fairly noticeable.

I would think that a lot of EDH decks run cards that have no foil versions. That said, if I have a foil/promo I usually throw it in an EDH deck.
I want to minimize the white borders but prefer to have the new frame, so sometimes I actively seek a foil version, unless I can't (Portal) or can't afford (original duals).
If I'm buying singles for my deck and I can get foil or promo versions of them for not too much more money I'll get those, but since I have a tight budget I'm limited in how much I can spend on frivolities.
Also, don't all cards fade over time when exposed to natural light?

Exposed to enough sunlight, even regular cards fade. I tested this by leaving one by the window, in a black shield. It fades relatively fast. Of course, this isn't noticeable when you just play the cards now and then, but might be if you actively played outdoors.

Im currently foiling out my Ghost Council deck, but i cannot keep my list the same for more than a few games lol. If you want to see, the list is at here. Any advice/advise is appreciated.
As for the fading bit, I have some INV/ODY foil basics I have used since the sets were released almost constantly, and they havent faded for the entirety of the time i have owned them. However, the last few years do show, as they look like they encountered the wrong end of a sander and most of the ink is beginning to come off lol.
I believe the fading bit is only a big deal if the cards are in a lot of natural sunlight, or cardboard cancer. A possible fix would be to use a thick coat of SPF80 on all your foils you are going to use outdoors *cough* *sarcasm* *cough*. Otherwise, it shouldnt be a big deal though but I see where your concern is, as a foil rare is seldom less than $5 and most are up from there. Plus the DCI promos...
Anyway, good luck and happy foiling to all!

Personally, I like to have crazy jank in all my decks. For instance, if some card is a reprint. I prefer to have a version from as many different sets as possible including old sets and white bordered sets.
Secondly, scans pl0x or it didn't happen.
