Etali, Primal Storm is a card I didn't really notice first time around.
A friend played it against me in a RUG shell last night in a 6 player game, and it wrecked! Mimic Vat (helped by Trophy Mage) made sure he was repeatedly finding what he needed, then swinging with it every turn. He reminded me just how good Mimic Vat is with evoke creatures too...
I think that he's the second-best Red Titan behind Inferno Titan and above Combustible Gearhulk. He lacks the "instant value" and interaction that Inferno-daddy brings to the table but brings that "auto win" factor in the sense that he can turn games that no other card in Magic could. In a 4 player game he's a favorite to hit at least 2 spells per attack and sometimes you get back-to-back 3-4s at which point the game just ends. He also boasts immense synergy with Haste enablers, including Generator Servant, Feldon of the Third Path, Mimic Vat, Flameshadow Conjuring, Sneak Attack and more. He's fantastic with "extra combat phase" cards as well, and now that we have cards like Neheb, the Eternal it's even easier to justify playing them. Nothing like turn 2 Generator Servant, turn 3 Combat Celebrant, turn 4 Etali, Primal Storm + swing + swing. That right there is game!
Etali, Primal Storm is real sick in multiplayer games...it's a really strong threat that will turn the tide of the game in no time. Of course, as Prid3 said, giving him haste is obviously important because that thing will become the #1 target as soon as it hits the table.
In my book Etali, Primal Storm is the strongest red titan...followed by Combustible Gearhulk (draw 3 cards 90% of the time) and by Inferno Titan. Inferno Titan is a great help to deal with creatures but has a smaller impact on the game then Etali has in multiplayer games. Would be another story in a duel setup though.
Good point. I just have "clumps of cards" that I tend to play together for synergy reasons since decks that want one of them usually want all of them. Etalia + Conjuring doesn't work but in general it's a solid card for the "attacking matters" archetype. There's nothing that I love more than Conjuring a Warchief Giant or a Molten Primordial when I have a Combat Celebrant in play :). Especially fun when you have all of these "until N" effects (see also Mimic Vat) and then you Sundial of the Infinite to dodge the resolution of the triggers after they hit the stack.
I like Ogre Battledriver as well...if your playgroup doesnt run too much creature-removal...it's a pretty sick card.
I just got a playset of Worn Powerstone last friday. I wanted something to play my Sun Titan faster and I wanted that "something" to be a permanent with converted mana cost 3 or less so it could come back with the titan. Since im playing white, blue and a splash of black, my options were a bit limited and I dont like the fact that Basalt Monolith doesnt untap easily.
LOL, yeah yeah I know. ;P
I have a set of stones, but they're tied up in another deck. I tend to try and avoid buying many sets of the same card, as the friends I play MTG multiplayer with are a fairly casual lot. I get bored of playing with the same cards pretty easily anyway.
Yeah...but i'd rather run the Worn Powerstone then trying to combo with Basalt Monolith...trying to combo with monolith would force me to run multiple cards that do not have any synergy with the rest of the deck...and would force me to remove cards from the deck that actually have a pretty good synergy with each other...in a deck that wouldnt benefit from generating infinite mana.
Also, at 142$ each, Power Artifact is not a good enough fit in the deck to justify spending that much money on a card.
Ha ha! Yeah sorry RE: Power Artifacts' cost. Cards like that I tend to make proxy's of, just print them out on a sticker and attach them to a nothing-card I would never likely use.
My playgroup doesnt like proxies....I have a playset of gold-bordered Gaea's Cradle and I usually have a very negative reaction when I play them so I end up not playing them at all =/.

Anyone tried Etali before? What do you think?

Doesnt work with Flameshadow Conjuring since Etali is lengendary.

I know there are plenty of other options in red, but I really like these three too.
Generator Servant, Grinning Ignus, Seething Song & Sandstone Needle are in pretty much every mono-red creature deck I build these days, so I can just start jamming 6+ cmc bombs in from there. It's dumb but I like it
Smh. Kids these days always forget that Worn Powerstone is still a card.

RE: Basalt Monolith;
Power Artifact or Rings of Brighthearth can be used for infinite mana. The combo with Rings will need 2 other mana to get it rolling.
Or you could just use an untapper like Aphetto Alchemist or Voltaic Key, which both work just fine with Powerstone too.
Also, at 142$ each, Power Artifact is not a good enough fit in the deck to justify spending that much money on a card.
