What are you favorite decks/colors for locus? Picked up a set and trying to decide on a concept. I had thought about running colorless with the Urza crowd but not sure I just want to jam Eldrazi as the only wincon.
I have had a mono-red 12-Post for nigh on a decade, and I don't think it will ever get taken apart. It's one of those "If you leave me alone, I will insta-gib you out of nowhere" decks. Great fun to play. The list has changed a little bit since the linked post - it's now definitely got a couple of Chandra, the Firebrands onboard (and yes, I've ultimated her in this deck, too... good times).
I've also built a mono-blue version before with Eldrazi as a win-con. As you say, it's about what you expect it to be. Entirely predictable in how it wins. I guess it depends on how much you enjoy playing a deck that has "inevitability" written all over it.
My next trick is going to be building a mono-green version that ramps using Animist's Awakening and wins via Gelatinous Genesis. Is it optimal? Heck no! Is it going to be wild, unpredictable fun? You bet!
So here are two I have designed. The eldrazi mid-range is actually put together and going crazy in my group. I almost made it too powerful, and I REALLY stepped off the gas from what people actually recommended. You could easily substitute the temples for your Vesuvas and run with it if Bl00m and Pride3's lists are too strong for your meta like they are for mine. Prid3 was a major contributor to this deck, really helping me understand mana bases better. The colossus themed deck I have not built yet, but was built to test out a red locus idea with recurring spot removal that can handle a lot of threats.
I submit these in case your group is less-than-optimized. Cheers.
The Steely resolves are in there to protect my Eldrazis from Ray of Command-like effects and from removal as well. Another way to get a lot of mana quickly is that when I reach 4 mana, I cast Thran Dynamo and I then tap the Dynamo to copy it with a Phyrexian Metamorph...going directly from 4 to 10 mana.

I recommend starting with something close to this.
Oblivion Stone could be Perilous Vault, Nevinyrral's Disk, All is Dust, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, etc. Play 4-8 copies total.
Ulamog could be any big fatty. Play 4-6 of them total.
Oblivion Sower could be Primeval Titan.
Green Sun's Zenith is amazing in decks with a large quantity of Green critters. If you can afford them then add them by all means.
Eye of Ugin is strictly better than Sea Gate Wreckage if you can afford it.
If you have any questions feel free to ask :).
