Out of curiosity, why are you pairing Phantom creatures with +1/+1 counters? The best thing to mix them with is a card like Mirari's Wake that gives them a flat toughness boost, thus making them immortal. Adding counters is fine, but it just seems like the stronger interaction (in my mind) is to flat out make your creature immortal with respect to burn/creature combat.

Well, they'd still die to combat or burn after they remove the +1/+1 counters. So I stall by continuously adding +1/+1 counters until I get Vigor out and choose to use his replacement effect, making them immortal that way.
If damage would be dealt to ~, prevent that damage. Remove a +1/+1 counter from ~.
10/4/2004: The damage prevention ability works even if it has no counters, as long as some effect keeps its toughness above zero.
That means any Glorious Anthem effect will prevent damage from killing a phantom. Only if something says damage can't be prevented they would die. And the best thing is that anthem effects are really cheap now since similiar cards have been printed over and over again.
Wow that is absurdly powerful. I guess I always thought that a clause of the damage prevention was to remove a +1/+1 counter, never noticed the period between the sentences.
I wouldn't call it absurdly powerful lol. It's fine. It makes your creatures slightly more durable, which is never a bad thing in multiplayer. Still, it's not like like any of the Phantom creatures are that great (Centaur and Nishoba are decent), so even "immortal" versions aren't exactly going to be backbreaking. It's just a nice way to "abuse" some otherwise lackluster cards (for lack of a better term heh). But yeah, as I said before, you're really looking for these Gaea's Anthem-esque effects and not cards that add +1/+1 counters.
