So my friend and I want to play 60 card Magic again. Being veterans since 2000 (though i took a break for a while. (2003-2007) so i have been playing a lot since 2007. Around 2010 i started playing EDh and finally quit competative pay back in 2012. Since then i have only payed EDH (And maybe have done a pre-release here or there)
Thing is I do miss the old 60 card casual play, and I want to get back into playing it since my freind lives pretty far away and getting a group for EDH is tough.
So I want to start a battle box, based on tribes. Tribes are fun and there are enough creature in MTG to get a few decks based on a single tribe. And I wnat to keep a bit of an EDH feel to teh deck so this is what I propose.
60 cards
-1 mythic Rare (Must be a creature, and must have enough support in a tribe (so noting like an Eye)
-7 Rares
-18 Uncommons
-34 commons
(Formula may change slightly)
8 cards (from the uncommon and commons) must have a duplicate (no more than two copies however (again this may change as well) And of course the deck must follow a tribe. (Trying to also stick to 2-3 color decks) And keep the decks on a budget. I can build an eldrazi deck with these restrictions, but that does not make them budget friendly)
I also want to avoid the completely overplayed decks (Elves, Goblins, Wizards) I want to support a deck that has an uncommon tribe in its mix, something you would not normally expect to see. (I mean I don't think Noggles will work, but maybe I can go with Spiders.)
So yea i gave restrictions on the deck. (Oh one final note. Just because the Mythic has to be a creature that supports the tribe does not mean they have to be of the tribe (Vela the Night Clad and Ninjas))
I'm not sure I fully understand what you want to do with your deck but considering that you want to build a multiplayer deck, running as many Crackling Doom as possible is never a bad idea - they are insanely strong in multiplayer games. I keep looking for reasons to build RWB decks just to play more of these.

I don't want to build just one deck but instead multiple. Basically i want to get the same feeling that Duel decks anthology had. (8 decks you could shuffle and play) I just don't want to get bored by seeing Goblins, Elves ad Wizards, all the time, but i also don;t want to make a deck super complex to play. (That is why i based the deck formula on pre-con restrictions)
That is also why i want the budget. if I got rid of restrictions and budget i could build a deck easily. But then my deck will not be fair. (turn 1 win combo deck, not fair.)
With the deck construction restrictions, all decks will be on par with each other. (And no one has to spend multiple games to learn what the deck can do. Pic it up and play it. Some decks may have different mechanics but they are all meant to be basic. maybe a game or two before pulling out the big guns (EDH)
Alright, what do you mean by the fact that the mythic "Must be a creature, and must have enough support in a tribe (so noting like an Eye)"...I can run Rhys the redeemed in a GW token deck but not Sigarda, Host of herons because she is not related enough to the token deck ?
Also, which restricted/banlist are you guys using ? ...Vintage ?

I see the confusion about support. Certain factor will be looked over for most but in most cases, i would say treat the Mythic as a commander. (May even end up playing 61 card EDH)
As for the ban list. I am not banning anything yet (So yea vintage), but since this is "budget friendly" The more expensive card swill not see play.
One deck i had in mind was Fungus, but I don;t like that Thallids need 3 turns to poop out a saproling.
(Also token is not really a tribe and I am trying to avoid token production.)
Well, you should see my commander decks...i run totally no card that interracts well with my commander...I just run the best of that particular color combo.
Anyway, I guess you would not consider "Token", "Equipment", "Phasing", "Undying" or "Suspend" as tribes so here is what I have for you...

No, the Simic Growth Chamber and friends were common in Dissension and 2 Commander sets
I will have to go with lowest rarity printing. Like Lovisa Coldeyes, as it says mythic but she was rare in coldsnap.
Also I am probably going to ban sol ring. While every deck can run one, it may hold more power than it does in EDH. IN EDH turn 1 Sol ring is helpful. In 60 card format, (For casual play) my be game breaking.
And with my friends. In 2DH, we banned sol ring anyway.
Alright...either way, you have plenty of other options to choose from to replace Sol Ring...however, I assure you that it gives a sick advantage both in commander and in regular games.
No time to post another deck today but I might work on another tonight

I modified the deck a bit...added 2 Nature's Lore to the deck to help with acceleration. It should be good to further modify the mana curve to bring the average mana cost lower and to add more cards with acceleration...Rampant Growth, Kodama's Reach and Cultivate could be good additions to the deck and the deck runs too many 4-6 mana cost cards.
I have three tribals that all started back in Lorwyn: elementals, treefolk, and kithkin. For me at least, all three were almost immediately compelling to build. They aren’t in any format you’re asking for here, but they can be easily modified.
First, the elementals. I play a rainbow deck with 40 elementals and 22 lands. Most of the elementals come from Lorwyn block. Evokers and other etb/ltb-effect creatures are cycled in and out of the battlefield by Incandescent Soulstoke, champions, and the Horde of Notions to generate massive card advantage.
I use it in smaller games such as four person FFA, 2HG, home-modified Emperor's games, 2v2, and even 1v1, though I recnetly made some changes to add lifegain (Spark Trooper) and more destruction (Bane of Progress and Spitebellows) to make it more competitve in full FFA in my tabletop group. I like it for the both the synergies and off-beat construction. It is my oldest deck as a result.
Another fun deck is Treefolk, which only has four non-land/non-treefolk cards. It used to be a 40 creature deck like my elementals, but I recently added 8 spells to make it more balanced by increasing hard answers. Leaf-Crowned Elder and Scrying Sheets work together to keep lands, and the occasional treefolk or spell, pouring into my hand, and treefolk into play for free.
Another oddball tribal is Kithkin. I have a white blitz deck that has ended an Emperor’s game in five turns as a wing by killing the opposing wing on turn four and the Emperor resigned the next turn. It regularly has enough steam to kill two people, so is good for team games and smaller formats like star. It has remained relatively unchanged since shortly after Lorwyn block. Preeminent Captain casts creatures for free and attacking for super quick aggro, and the spot removal keeps clear attack lanes for Army of Allah or Mirror Entity fueled alpha strikes.
