Hi everyone,
I am a very casual gamer. I generally only play 2 headed giant with mates and beers. About 12 years ago I spent about $50 on cheap cards and made two decks (well three, but one sucks... okay you will think they all suck). Yesterday I was getting ripped on for using Multani's Acolyte, which I deep down always knew I deserved. Anyway so I have been out of the game for 10 years and I am back my deck is bad because
a) my friends take it more serious than they used to
b) some power creep has happened.
c) probably I am more aware of how ordinary they are
I don't really care that much about winning, but I also don't want to be the short straw in a team game. And I thought it might be fun to freshen things up. So I am curious for suggestions of cards, the cheaper the better.
Yes I am aware they are probably lame by everyone's standards but I am very casual and don't want to spend a long. My decks are:
----
So - Mogg Fanatic is a lot worse now he can't stack his damage, and I have never loved Fireslinger. But I do need some cheap creatures.
I have seen the Basalisk's Collar getting around and obviously I think 4 of them would fit quite well.
(And yeah no reason not to get lightning bolt instead of shock)
4 Living Terrain
1 Gaea's Embrace
4 Quiet Disrepair
2 Giant Growth
3 Gather Courage
2 Explosive Growth
2 Aggressive Urge
4 Wildsize
----
I am sure this needs a lot of work. Essence Wardens are good in two headed giant. MA can be thrown out. This deck is better than it looks (I didn't say good) in two headed giant as it allows early stabilisation so your partner can get some legends of plainswalkers or whatever out.
So just after general card suggestions, for both things to add and things that need to go. Thanks in advance.

What is your meta like? How often do you win games? Half the time? 25% of the time? 5% of the time?
I guess the question is how much stronger do you need them to be? I don't want to cause Immense power creep by suggesting a deck that is outrages but also costs 100$.
Reds my least favorite deck building color so ill give you a few cheap pointers on making your green deck a little stronger. I would stick with the elf theme and up Essence Warden to a 4 off.
Get rid of
Honestly you have to kind of decide how much you want to change the deck and kinda what the theme is. I would honestly take the time to read atleast the green primer that Prid3 has written. (and all of them if you have the time)
No problem! Theres a article around about linking somewhere. And yeah Prid3 has great multiplayer primers.
I just had a thought that a card like Cerulean Wisps would be good for your ping deck, extra ping, draw a card, and if you have curiosity out, so much card advantage.
Rancor would be good to your green deck if youre going for buffs. I'm just not a fan of the instant speed one time buffs as it doesn't create much lasting value per card. Rancor is repeating value, and overrrun is hopefully the end of the game.
Since your win rates arnt abysmally low I don't think youd have to put much more than $25 into your decks to bring them up closer to 50%

I am restricted to the modern legal card-pool. (Unless it's EDH)
Another thing that can help you survive is destruction in several forms to stop enchantment-heavy or equipment heavy rampages. First, for green, there’s a budget sweeper and body, the Bane of Progress, about $3.50 per copy online. Also, Beast Within at $1.50 per copy is spot removal for just about anything. Both, along with the previously mentioned Rancor, can really help mono-green. Sweepers should not be a problem in 2-HG since they can still really save your bacon if your team is behind.
A stupidly budget pump card is the humble Darksteel Axe at $.15 to $.25 per card. Their indestructability gives them tremendous value over the long game and survives Bane of Progress. Rancor is better overall, but you do have to re-cast it after the Bane.
Finally, Eternal Witness is a good example of getting more from each card, netting you a valuable card from the graveyard and giving you a body in addition. They are about $6 to $7 per copy, which is really spendy for an uncommon, but I would be remiss not to mention them anyway.
Multani's Acolyte is a pretty decent card...I used to play it with Bequeathal not that long ago...or even Skullclamp would be nice with it if the card is legal in your playgroup.
However, I think what you need the most is overall stronger cards. For the ping deck...if you rely on small creatures dealing small amounts of damage, you will rarely come up with something impressive. You have to go with creatures that can deal more damage and base your strategy around these creatures...
For your UR deck, you have many strategies you can use...
You can use creatures that interract well with spells and use a bunch of spells that are good for you...
That will give you an innexpensive deck that is crazy fast (My Kiln Fiend deck can kill on turn 3 but it has help from Manamorphose which are a bit expensive (7$ ish))
The other path you can take with your UR is to keep it around the same theme (ping stuff) but upgrade with better pingers and add stronger creatures...that way you can have a lower number of pingers but that will do a good job at pinging...
For your mono G deck...Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary is sadly too expensive (12.58$) but there are a lot of cheap good green cards that I can list here. I think you would be better off running bigger creatures than running small creatures and try to upgrade them....unless it's a bunch of elves...because elves are sick.
Finally, if you ever consider building a brand new deck and you dont have a lot of money to put on it, I would either focus my deck on 4x Crackling Doom (0.33$) which is, in my opinion, THE card with the best usefulness versus money value ratio out there...the card is simply SICK and it's worth only 0.33$. Let me know if you're interested and I'll list you some cheap black and white cards to go with the red cards I've already listed here.
Kozilek, the Great Distortion being only 3.81$, it's another great card worth building a deck around if you dont want your deck to be expensive. You can then stick every colorless mana generating artifacts that you can get your hands on and a bunch of other cheap colorless creatures (Endbringer (0.52$) for example) to make you last until you get Kozilek.

Giving the green article you posted a skim, it's great I am looking forward to getting stuck right in.
I'd say my winning percentage is around 1/3 with the RU deck and 1/4 with the G deck.
The green deck needs and overall but I think you've provided me with all I need
The RU deck I would like to keep the theme in tact. Only a few changes I think, I like it.
I just had a thought that a card like Cerulean Wisps would be good for your ping deck, extra ping, draw a card, and if you have curiosity out, so much card advantage.
