Chromatic Lantern is a definite given when trying to go 5-colors, but don't want to go for the maximum Domain push.

It's pretty simple; 5 colors gives you access to everything and anything you want. You can play all the good control spells: Black spot removal and hand disruption, Blue countermagic and card advantage, Green ramp, any sweepers or Wrath effects, and literally any fatty creatures you choose to win the game with. Here's a simple example list that I cooked up, it also happens to be Type 2 legal:
You can make the landbase as simple or as sophisticated as your budget allows. Obviously more nonbasics and fancy lands will make your deck run more smoothly, but you can get by with Evolving Wilds and Terramorphics if it's all you have. The planeswalkers and Thragtusks can be substituted for kill spells or oblivion rings/Detention Spheres and some kind of life gain (Obstinate Baloth) or draw spell (Sphinx's Revelation/Mind Spring/Invoke the Firemind). Make it your own and dominate your kitchen table.
Really one wanting to do a 5-color control deck should probably start with their win-con and work from there. The answers you play should cohere with the win-con.
ThatRedwood mentioned land-cycling creatures such as Pale Recluse, Valley Rannet, and more from Alara Reborn; he also mentioned Eternal Dragon; another good one is Krosan Tusker from Onslaught. I really like Tusker since it lets you draw a card on top of finding a land, but the Alara Reborn ones are good because you don't need any particular color for them.
Generally speaking, you want some black creature removal and/or some discard; a few blue counterspells and card draws; some green mana fixing; white creature/enchantment/etc. removal and maybe some sweepers; and maybe some red removal (like bolt). But you want to concentrate more in your core color(s); e.g. having a big focus in WUB with splashes for RG will be more consistent than 20% each way.
Abrupt Decay seems like a good buy right now around $5; it would be staple creature/artifact/enchantment removal.
If you're budget, but can spend a little bit, I suggest investing in the tri-lands from shards of alara accompanied by some Amulet of Vigor's The mana they provide is just outstanding. Also any vivid lands from lorwyn.
Afterwards, put your most favorite spells in there and add simple ways to defend yourself such as Dawn charmwrath of godBlustersquall etc. The best thing about running a 5 color control deck, is you get to constantly change your game up with the most absurd spell combinations. One of my signature moves is Upheaval followed by a Spontaneous Generation. 5 color is just so much fun with the amount of things you can do. Youll enjoy it once you get it up and running
though, the Sunburst mechanic was underused when it came out, Domain would be a wiser option- as Domain has Allied Strategies, Collective Restraint, Worldly Counsel.

If you've got money : Dual lands/Shock lands with Fetch lands work wonders.
A more budget option that was available in standard a few years back was 4 Reflecting Pool + a mix of Vivid lands.
You can also get by with a mix of Shard Convergence, Land-Cycling Creatures, and Sylvan Scrying for your non-basics.

Add Expedition Map to the list of land-looker-uppers.
