BlackVise, moderator of Other Official Casual Formats, and Blutsau & Etched Chester, Casual moderators, are discussing the merger of Other Official Casual Formats with Casual Magic.
We'll present our plan & reasons subsequently, and would like you to weigh in on the matter in this thread.
Initially special cards formats (Vanguard, Archenemy & Planechase) were moved to their own section; the latter two were expected to get more official support from WotC (similar to Commander), so they could sprout & prosper in their own proper place.
Since then, Extended sanctioned format support was dropped in favor of Modern. On the level of special card formats, support & development was focused on Commander (a really great format for casual play, but its own beast).
Consequently, Other Official Casual Formats is not really active, and we think its formats deserve better.
As currently proposed, Extended would become a new subforum of Casual (replacing the Articles link), whilst threads in Planechase, Archenemy, Vanguard, and Other Official Casual Formats Archive would be moved to Homebrew & Variant Formats.
Accordingly, Casual might be renamed to "Casual & Related Formats" or something along that line. Staff of the two forums wouldn't change, except that all three moderators would be jointly responsible for the new Casual forum.
To summarize the benefits of such a change:
Give threads that currently belong to Other Official Casual Formats a larger audience
The option to support special card formats & Extended in Casual group activities
Consolidation of casual formats & staff
It might be a good idea to review the Casual Forum Rules in case this plan comes to fruition.
We'd really like to hear your thoughts on this change, so please post them, even if it's just nodding it through.
Weren't they originally one subforum in the first place? When they were first split, I didn't think the there were enough a population for Other to exist. I still think that way, and now with EDH and cube having subforums on their own, the activity has further dwindled.
Yes, I think they should be merged.

I think its a good idea, it gives other players who may not have played these formats introductions and possible decklists to look at before they jump in and start themselves
edit: however i do feel some what sorry for the mods cause they are going to have alot more threads to move cause people are probably going to be posting in the wrong section for a while before they get accustom to the change
