The tunnel walls between the spots where the grates were suck in the heat of anything that passes through the area. Despite this the water in front of the grate area (about 15' of tunnel) is mildly warm.
The room beyond the grates is large cylindrical room whose bottom and top can't be seen from the tunnel.
The duo find swimming through the cold to be a painful experience but they are greeted with warmth on the other side. Once thawed, however, the two realize the warmth might be better described as the hot.
Esyllt swims up behind them. She's trying to say something using sign language, but the dryad forgot to ask if anyone else knew it.
The massive room is indeed a cylinder with a diameter of about 120ft and a height of around 400ft. The ceiling is only 50ft above the group. The floor faintly glows with heat, and has several sealed metallic openings inscribed with skulls scattered across it.
There is a small alcove about 200' above the floor in the far wall of the cylinder - it looks like it contains a square.
Laghairt joins the others in the hot room. He attempts to see if he can swim toward the alcove, but stops and returns to the group if the water starts to get really hot.
The water is hot but not any more dangerous than a hot tub. Granted, that is quite a bit different from not being dangerous at all.
Olus and Laghairt only make it about 15 feet before Esyllt and Laz enter the hot tub as well. About 20 seconds after the latter duo enter walls suddenly phase in, sealing the tunnel shut.
The skull inscribed doors in the floor open up, releasing plumes of boiling water into the room along with several figures.
7 of the figures appear to be ~5' long construct sharks with ceramic scales, while the eighth is a ceramic scaled construct with a fishes' tail and the torso/limbs of a man. It wields a shield and a trident.
The constructs are still several hundred feet away but they are coming up fast. The group hear Esyllt trying to scream something at them through the water as she points up.
Looking up reveals that the ceiling has phased out, unveiling a second ceiling 50' above it. A closed door can be seen right below the ceiling but it is covered up fast as the ceiling falls.
Specifically, there are 7 large metal boulders hanging from the ceiling by thick entwined ropes. The entwined ropes are about 2' wide, and the boulders are evenly spaced across the ceiling.
In the exact center of the ceiling is a steel pillar connected to an entwined steel cord that is pulled up through a hole in the center of the ceiling as it falls. The pillar slams against the smaller opening but it isn't strong enough to overcome the pull of the boulders.
There are a few grates in the ceiling that is letting water rush past it, although it looks like whirling blades will make short work of anyone trying to join the water in its escape.
Esyllt grabs Laz and helps him swim towards Laghairt and Olus. She casts heartwood hatchets as she does so, passing them to Laz as she carries him. A grow spell leaves one of the hatchets the size of a battleaxe.
It should be noted that the swimsuits, like the one Esyllt is wearing on account of her armor being too cumbersome for swimming, are made of a thin chitin-like material.
Once the dryad gets close enough to Olus and Laghairt she summons another hatchet pair and grows one of them to battleaxe size as well. She passes second pair of axe and hatchet to the Ogofta, although all four weapons will soon be axes.
Laz and Esyllt chug along (Doo-Da Doo-Da)
Olus and Laghairt's cuts are strong (Oh dee Doo-Da day)
They hit the ceiling as the rope 'comes thin (Doo-Da Doo-da)
They stand and cut until they win (oh dee Doo-Da Day)
G'wine to cut 'em right
G'wine to cut 'em away
The fourth rope is reduced to a rag,
Constructs have come to play.
--
The group has fallen about 200' but the ceiling is getting slower with each rock that was cut.
The water continues to heat up as the boiling water emerges from the floor.
The fishman construct swims towards Olus and Laghairt along with three sharks while the remaining four sharks swim towards Esyllt and Laz.
All hatchets are now battle axes if that was preferred.
Olus flips his ax around holding it by the top of the head and swims towards the nearest shark. He attempts to jam his ax down its throat shaft first with all his considerable strength, attempting to jam up it's inner workings.
Laghairt took his axe and hung it across his back. He took the Lavaforge Pole and attempted to shove it down the throat of construct shark. If he managed it, he tried to repeatedly ram it against the insides of the beast.
(BP: 40)
Laz fistmists (lol I used fistmist as a verb). One spirit fist aimed down a sharks gullet as far as he could push it, the other holding the axe defensevly protecting laz and E
Laghairt finds some resistance inside the shark, but he manages to push the pole through whatever it is. He finds shaking the pole to be much harder, as though something is pressing against the end at all sides. The shark shakes helplessly at the end of the pole in an attempt to dislodge the pole. Another shark attempts to bite Laghairt's foot while this is going on.
Olus achieves similar results, although the smaller shaft results in a vibrating battleaxe-mouthed shark instead of Laghairt's shark-on-a-stick. It tries to press the blade into Olus as it shakes. The fishman construct reaches Olus and thrusts its trident towards his midsection.
Laz punches the construct sharks insides, begging the question "can you destroy a hand?". The answer appears to be "Yes, but it reforms elsewhere in the mist after a short delay". The tattered hand does manage to make it all the way through the shark - it looks like the constructs just grind stuff up and expel it through the other end.
Between Laz's axe, Esyllt's shield, healing magic, the FistMist, and the swimsuits actually being pretty tough the duo manage to keep the sharks at bay. Every now and then the green fists score a particularly damaging hit against a shark.
