I know this thread has probably been done to death, but I'd like to see an updated opinion from people. I'm exploring the idea of completely overhauling my unpowered cube to make it even less powerful. I know there are many of you out there that think this is a terrible idea, but I'm exploring it anyway.
Without further ado, here's a start:
Black Lotus
Moxen
Sol Ring
Mana Crypt
Mana Vault
Grim Monolith
Library of Alexandria
Balance
Moat
Ancestral Recall
Time Walk
Mana Drain
Mind Twist
Recurring Nightmare
Channel
Umezawa's Jitte
Swords of Dichotomies
?????
All of yours are pretty good except Moat. I mean... a few decks lose to it, but it isn't mindblowingly amazing usually either.
It basically just stops Green Big Dudes Deck- and that is assuming they can't deal with it.
Mono-red usually has enough reach (and some flyers)
White has flying
Blue has flying
Black- usually has enough flying
Not that I don't play Moat. I just don't depend on moat.
Adding to the list:
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
Ravages of War
Elspeth, Knight-Errant
Bribery
Upheaval
Sulfuric Vortex
Fireblast
Ajani Vengeant
Any card on this list I could first pick and probably win most games I cast it in on curve.
Thanks for the suggestions. What are people's opinions on:
Maze of Ith
Tinker
Treachery
Opposition
Armageddon
Maze: Very fair. You don't make mana. I would hope your pool has the 'essential' non-basic land hate in wasteland and strip mine. toss in red LD, vindicate, etc and potentials like ghost quarters and it balances out fairly well. Several bombs are now also hexproof/shroud, which further negate maze. Last, maze only handled 1 targeted creature.
Tinker: depends on the pool. very fair regardless of what you run because it needs a solid pairing of drafted cards (moreso than SFM to equipment, etc).
Treachery: I think for the cost in an unpowered pool it's fair. Others may disagree about it overall (see: powered/fast mana pools).
Opposition: Build-around me or it's actually quite bad.
'Geddon: Love this card. Essential WW and white-aggro design. Curve-topper. By comparison, Elspeth 1.0 costs 4cc for white. This card punishes midrange and control design shells like it should. Very fair design overall.

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
Minus the Power 9 (maybe not Timetwister that card is very conditional) and sol ring, LoA, etc. I think the strongest card would have to go to Moat. When this card is picked up in the first couple packs, and you slightly build around it, it can just kill a lot of opponents. It makes a lot of decks hopeless.
