Set to open tonight/tomorrow, here is the teaser for my latest Colosseum venture:
Blood Red Moon
Overview of the Game
This World Project combines elements from a traditional World Project and the “Mafia” internet game in order to create a new and altogether interesting experience for the players and moderator alike. The game is divided into rounds, with each round lasting until a (group of) winner(s) is/are decided upon. Each round of the game involves a different time era and location.
Character Creation
Blood Red Moon employs a few different strategies concerning the creation of characters. Just as in a traditional World Project, players will submit their character's information in a given format in the specified thread. Here's the catch – once the information for all characters participating in the next round is submitted, the submissions will be closed, and using the information entered by the participants, I will create a character role for them. This role will then be sent to the player's via private messaging. Unless any potential ability counteracts this, player roles will be private and should generally be kept quiet (after all, these roles will not be anything like a generic game of Mafia).
Once a player has created their character and the round has started, all public information regarding this character is to be kept updated in the character creation thread. It is also asked that players link to their character's information in their signature for easy access.
Game play
Game play in Blood Red Moon is a little... interesting, to say the least. Players will role play in the traditional manner for the most part. However, players must – as stated prior – attempt to maintain the privacy of their private information if at all possible.
Once the scene is set, players will all awake to find themselves the only beings within any sort of perception and will begin playing from there. The players will be separated into two “teams” - good and bad, if you will. No single player will know the team denomination of any other player except by mod intervention.
As is the case with most Mafia games, every day the whole group chooses one person whom shall be killed for committing the relevant crime. Here's where things start to get mucky though. Since the “bad” team is not aware of who is on their team, and killing roles are less heavily focused upon in this game type, the use of logic and deception are more predominant. The object of this game is to use the tools to your advantage to trick the other players into giving up critical information that can help to win the game.
Blood Red Moon – Round One
Setting
Time: 18th or 19th century.
Place: Salem, Massachusetts.
Back Story
This was it. The big party. For years to come, it would be remembered in every sort of campfire tale imaginable, yet, those who lived through it are not sure why it is quite so fascinating among the youth whose effusive re-tellings only further to impugn the memories of those lives lost.
Still. regardless of medium or specifics, this night would surely be remembered, for it was the to be the wake in celebration of the lately deceased Bishop Willingsforth. Beyond those details, most of the evening's accounts are filled with lurid and half-finished happenings among the folk of the town, however one thing remains clear – Salem's inhabitants loved Willingsforth greatly.
As dawn broke over the tree tops and spilled into the windows of the governor's home, however, one thing became apparent – more than a party had occurred.
That most sacred item to the deceased bishop had disappeared from it's place on top of his casket – a copy of the Gutenberg Bible bound with gold and leather. Furthermore, upon greater inspection, the townspeople discovered the governor murdered in his dining hall with the following scribed neatly on the wall – in blood:
“Will away the darkness and one frees the light inside the mind.”
And with that, so our tale truly begins to unfold...
