The new movie has provoked me to think about this, and my first obvious question is:
When it says the movie was based on a series of true events, is this even true? what proof is there that these things even happened, as the movie's site claims
If anyone could tell me if something like this ever happened, it would be appreciated.

Thomas Hewitt AKA Leatherface is a fictional character. However, the Thomas Hewitt character was inspired by Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein, who never used a chain saw but did have a grotesque fascination with human body parts and liked to decorate his home with them as well as create masks and clothing with skin from his victims. Inspired by is a far cry from true story. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is NOT a true story. It's not even based on a true story. It's a work of film fiction. It's a 1974 cult classic horror movie that spawned a series of sequels and remakes from 1984 to 2003.
Also, Ed Gein is the guy in my avatar. I know alot about him, because any reason why people like serial killers or other strange people.
and for the record Ed Gein only killed 2 people.
sometimes the nature of the crimes far overshadows the number, in people's minds. I hope for society's sake that BTK and dismemberment/experiment types of murders never become so commonplace that people actually become INURED to and unaffected by their cruelty.
One of my friends from high school had a lurid fascination for serial killers. It was really creepy sitting behind him in Japanese class listening to him and another friend speak in a cryptic jargon they made up and called "Son-of-Sam speak", but he turned out OK.
I know there are a few who identify with those types of people and it really doesn't end well...then others who take satisfaction from reading how the cops and psychologists track and catch some of the most cunning and grisly criminal minds of our century.
ed gein is the reason why prostitute mothers should not pleasure there clients infront of there children, i think she made him put on makeup and dresses and such. messed up!
to set the record straight, he was only proven to have killed 2 people but was a suspect in many more, as he did make a mask of human skin, a belt with human nipples, sulls that were made into soup bowls, lips made into a necklace, a lampshade of human skin and a waist coat with human breasts and ****** sewed onto it.
anyways, for the real "hollywood" story on mr. gein, check out the movie ... you gessed it "ed gein", just dont make it a dinner date!

Nope, sorry. That might of been another serial killer, but it wasn't Ed Gein. Ed Gein's mom basicly sheltered her two children. Her one son died in from exhustion after fighting a fire in the barn, and Basicly it was Ed with his mom until she died in 1945, and then he basicly went nuts, grave robbed and boarded up.
Between 1947 and 1954, Ed became a full fledged grave robber. He stole around 40 female corpses and squirreled them away in his domain. He used the entire corpse: nothing was wasted. He put skulls on his bedposts, reupholstered his chairs, tables, and couches in woman-skin, and kept all sorts of keepsakes in the pantry.

So it shouldn't be the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
It should be more like the Wisconsin Fascination With Body Parts.

A lot of movies are like that, or better yet, based on a 'true story'. Generally (or atleast I think) movies that say such things make the movie better, mainly because you are into it a lot more than a non-true story. Atleast for me anyways.
I was reading in the paper today that somebody bought his house and plans to do it all up, now the locals are worried that they are going to have freaks crawling all over the place. That leads me to thinking, what other cool serial killer houses have been rennovated and made less serial killery?
Well, they had a hell of a time selling Jeffery Dahmers apartment.
They wanted an arm and a leg BA-DUM BISH! <__<
