Can somebody please help me fix this deck and/or build a sidedeck for it? I need it so that I will have at least some confidence facing other good commonly used decks.
I strongly suggest adding 1-2 Urborg to the main, and drop the Boreal Shelf for a Dreadship Reef. Tolaria West could also see play in order to transmute for the Urborgs. All because Flashbacking Mystical Teachings is just that important. Also, if you use Tolar Wests realize that it can also transmute for Urza's Factory, Pact if Negation, Slaughter Pact, and Tormod's Crypt. Playing these with the tutors gives you some resillience against Bridge, Solar Flare, and several other decks.
Both Azbander and Redfalcon have good ideas. Here are my thoughts.
1) I don't think 22 lands is enough. You want to get to 4 mana early so you can cast wrath. Plus, you've got whelk at 6 mana, teferi at 5, akroma costs 8, and you need at least five mana to suspend chronicler. I know you have Lenses, but I think you need at least 24 lands for this type of build.
2) Consider using Story Circle, that can shutdown a lot of your opponent's cards.
3) You should have some type of artifact and enchantment removal in the sideboard. IMO between the mainboard wraths and isolations, you don't need four nodes and 2 copies of Persuasion. I'd say try this sideboard change:
I was working on a U/W Teachings build last night, and I thought that U/W/b was better, since the b would give you access to Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth via Tolaria West, which then leads into the amazing, awesome Tendrils of Corruption to be a 1/2-of in the Maindeck, again tutored through Mystical Teachings.
If you're running white, run Condemn too. It's like Swords, but not as good as it.

Oh, and how do I combat fast aggro decks like the gruul? I got slaughtered a few days ago at FNM and now the only thing I can think of is waiting for Ravnica block to cycle out, which is not the best method.
Snow manabase + Phyrexian Ironfoot slows down aggro a good bit. Its not going to single handedly win the battle, but it often can buy you 2-4 crucial turns for your real power to come online.

I support WotC's goal of shaping Modern in favor of diversity.
I ran a thought experiment on my blog Modern in a Nuclear Wasteland
of an extreme case of banning 20 more cards to make sure they get everything, then scaling back where appropriate. WotC seems to be on a slowly build up approach. Both ways probably reach similar end points.
The post Gatecrash metagame is proving to be closer to the endpoint than I estimated, so its very possible that few (if any) more cards need to be banned.
That should survive G/R Gruul Aggro a bit better...
On a sidenote, I still don't like the snow lands, because there is only one art for each. They are just not as varied as other lands can be.
Prehaps i was just a little too sentimental there.

As Archy posted, Condemn is very effective as a removal spell especially against fast aggro since it only costs 1 white mana.
