Is karplusan strider going to be the unremovable house i think he is going to be? the pro blue/black spells make him untargetable by 8/10 removal spells. I know im going to give him a shot in my grul deck at least in the board
The old rule of thumb is that 2 colorless mana is worth 1 colored mana. So a spell that costs 3C could cost 1CC. So in many respects Paladan En-vec costs 'the same' as Karplusian Strider. Also it should be noted that the 3/4 body could easily make it, for the most part, immune to burn, except for Char.
Honestly I think this is a FANTASTIC addition to the medium green deck that will rule standard in rav/ts/10th. Troll Ascetic coming back? Hurricane for the sideboard? The sick fat like Loxodon Hierarch and Watchwolf, not to mention the second king of auras, Moldervine Cloak? Oh yeah. Medium green will be back with a vengeance.

People pointing out *** all the time need to realize *** is not the main form of removal right now. I'm seeing a whole lot more spot removal (putrefy/mortify, burn spells), and then I'm seeing much more wildfire than *** in standard.
*** is always there, and a few decks pack it, but it's not prevelant in STD right now, compared to removal that this card largely can avoid (too big for a lot of the burn, pro black against the targeted stuff, pro blue against being bounced, blocked by keiga or meloku and his tokens).
Besides, if "can be dealt with by a Wrath of God" makes a creature subpar to you, you truly have some high standards.
At the least, this is a stellar sideboard card - hold back Husks/Ghost Council all day while avoiding the spot removal of those decks, and again, good for bashing past a Keiga or Meloku blocker.

Umm . . . the strider only has "can't be the target of blue or black spells" it doesn't have "protection from blue and black." There fore, blue and black can still block it, and deal damage to it. The just can't use spot removal.

When I was young, the smallest trick of light,
Could catch my eye,
Then life was new and every new day,
I thought that I could fly.
I believed in what I hoped for,
And I hoped for things unseen,
I had wings and dreams could soar,
I just don't feel like flying anymore.

I'm glad someone else caught this.
There is no way to even compare Paladin and Strider. The Paladin is so superior it isn't even funny.
If you want a mono-green creature that can't be killed by spot removal, do yourself a favor and play with Kodama of the North Tree. It's better. Seriously.

Lets face it, Strider is going to be one of those conditional sb cards that depending on what is popular in your area he might actually see the light of main. Where me and Shinjutsei play the second biggest form of black removal comes in the form of Stinkweed Imp.
My opinion, Strider is not the answer that the green mage was looking for against removal.
Besides, if "can be dealt with by a Wrath of God" makes a creature subpar to you, you truly have some high standards.
amen.

Kodama's triple-green cost makes it nearly impossible to splash, costs one more even with that, and can't be enchanted with your own spells.
How much actual "removal" is Blue anyway? Electrolyze for one? That's it?
The best removal nowadays comes from White, Black, and Red. Strider only dodges 1 of those colors, and on top of that it "protection from" > "can't be the target of..."

Getting the last word does not mean that you win the argument.
If your after quick mono green that dodges spot removal why not just stick with whats already there. Last time I checked Ledgewalker + Moldervine Cloak was still pretty good...

Three green is no problem for Gruul. If you're playing Gruul, chances are you can cast him on Turn 5 or earlier anyway. He's a finisher.
But maybe you're right.
Okay, instead of Kodama and Strider, use Solifuge. I'm sure a Gruul deck can cast that.
