I just picked up two foil Aurelia's Fury the other day and threw it into a deck as placeholders until I get something else, and wow, they worked quite well. semi-silencing opponents + damaging them/their guys + tapping their guys at instant speed was really hard to come back from in the games I used it at.
This got me to thinking about the current standard and this card's role. Why doesn't this see play at all? A friend said it's the same as the two liliana's in standard. Sure, Liliana of the Dark Realms can fetch our shocklands, but Liliana of the Veil sis just so much better & overshadows the other. But what card(s) is in standard that is completely pushing Aurelia's Fury from seeing any play? It seems like it could at the least be sideboard material that can hit several popular decks quite hard. Control can't play anything but creatures for a turn, your aggro guys can get through without worrying about blockers/removal, etc.
Anyone know why this card turned out to be such a junk rare?
It also is a pretty expensive removal spell, 2WR for a shock? Not buying into it.
Although, I am not going to lie, the card has been on my radar the last few days as a way to EOT burn a control player as a mana sink, but for the investment, it just is not really worth it in an aggro/midrange environment and where there are better ways of combating control.

Yeah, maybe it is a bit high in aggro, and aggro is a pretty dominant archetype here in this current standard. I'm definitely curious though to see if it will see more play post-rotation when the format will slow down (which I'm thinking it will based on all the Theros spoilers so far.)
Even if it does, I am not sure how viable this card is. It is mana intensive and unlike it's relatives Sphinx's Revelation, Rakdos's Return, and even Epic Experiment, it does not generate actual card advantage.
Flames of the Firebrand is a significantly better card for killing small creatures. The problem I think with Aurelia's Fury is that it's too expensive for aggro, and there are just better options for control and midrange.

It's a card I've wanted to be good for a very, very long time, but it just doesn't fit.
In aggro vs aggro, there's just better options. Same goes vs midrange. Vs control, where you really want it, you dump all your mana and it's probably countered. Bleh.
Doesn't feel like there's any real spot for it in Naya midrange, same issues as aggro.
UWR flash is the only spot where I feel it could be useful, but even still, there would be too many times you get it in hand and you just want a verdict instead. That said...I'm tempted to try a pair in my SB friday.
