Because it's good even against Caw-Blade. It can help stem the bleeding if they get a hawk draw and you don't. Not to mention it being good against most creature strategies. (Aside from Birthing Pod).

In a Cawblade infested meta, timely reinforcements is not good.
Not true. It helps gain "hawk" advantage. Depending on if you are on the play or draw the you either put more in or take more out. It is great because it forces your opponent do play defensively if cast, especially if you have a sword out.
Opponent plays hawk, passes.
You leave counter mana up, pass.
Opponent swings, tries to cast something, you counter it.
On your turn you are now up 5 life and 2 creatures.
The MB Timely Reinforcement choice is dependent on the meta for the reasons stated above. Sadly, my meta has too many infect pump style decks for me to MB it. On the plus side, it makes my MB Spellskite more fun to use :D.
Oh lawds yes, spellskite is hilarious against those decks. But then again so is prettymuch any instant-speed answer or any blocker ever.
I envy you, my meta is infested with twin. Easily handled given the chance, since twin is also terrible, but likewise they sometimes just have it and you don't. Twin is just harder to beat when they have the nuts compared to infect pump.
Don't forget that you can spellskite your own Timely Reinforcements to lower your health by 2 in order to get the health bonus (if lower after the 2 health hit) and if you have less creatures, the solider bonus of course.

It's even good against them because it buys you three turns against 80% of their creature base.
my bad, it's also good in the mirror. But then, do you side it out on G2?
It depends on how many you play MD and SB. If you were on the draw G2 I would side in as many timely reinforcements as you can. If you were on the play, however, I would not play more than 2.
Nope, it doesn't. You can target any spell or ability with Spellskite's ability, even if you can't legally redirect any targets, or redirect any targets at all. It's "redirect a target of target spell". You can target the spell, and redirect a target it has when the ability resolves. If there is none, you don't redirect anything.

Yeah, you can activate it in response to abilities that wouldn't be valid, but I'm not sure if you can activate it in response to a spell or ability that doesn't actually involve targeting.

You can. You're not targetting the 'target', you're targetting the spell. Spellskite's ability doesn't care what the spell targets until the ability resolves.

The infect meta I have has a lot of unblockable/flying creatures. Removal spells would help me here more than TR because of infect's limited amount of creatures and massive amounts of pumps/equips.

Spellskite

Artifact Creature -- Horror

{U/P}: Change a target of target spell or ability to Spellskite. ({U/P} can be paid with either {U} or 2 life.)
* You can activate Spellskite's ability even if Spellskite wouldn't be a legal target for the spell or ability. However, the target of that spell or ability will remain unchanged.
* If changing one target of a spell or ability to Spellskite would make other targets of that spell or ability illegal, the targets remain unchanged.
* If the spell or ability has multiple instances of the word "target," you choose which target you're changing to Spellskite when Spellskite's ability resolves.
* By activating Spellskite's ability multiple times, you can change each target of a spell or ability with multiple instances of the word "target" to Spellskite, one at a time.
* The target of the spell or ability won't change unless Spellskite fulfills all the targeting criteria, even if multiple instances of the word "target" are used. For example, you can't change both targets of Arc Trail to Spellskite.
* If a spell or ability has multiple targets but doesn't use the word "target" multiple times, such as Fulgent Distraction, you can only successfully change one of the targets to Spellskite.
* If a spell or ability has a variable number of targets, you can't change the number of targets.
* If Spellskite leaves the battlefield before its ability resolves, the targets remain unchanged.
Spellskite's targeting requirement is a spell or ability. The ability will do nothing when resolved on a spell/ability with no target.
Do you guys ever find yourself going out of the way to use timely reinforcements? so far ive been haveing this problem O: ive been letting my opponent get slightly ahead so i can use it.

It needs to redirect a valid target bro.
No it doesn't. Redirecting it will do nothing, but you can still target the spell.
neat! suddenly i want spellskite to be back on the deck for that extra battle trick for timely reinforcments.
