I don't think we'll see scry so soon after fifth dawn IMO, cycling took them a couple of blocks, so why should we see scry so soon again? The longer it takes, the better, then it'll be like something new
Well....we did see Doublestrike (Scourge) again in Mirrodin block...so it IS possible.
I'd like to see a TON more Splice stuff in SOK. Like Kicker from Invasion, with Splice, they've actually given us a mechanic that might actually be -at all- useful once Krapigawa...'scuse me....Kamigawa...goes away. That's kinda nice for a change. I'm so annoyed with the 'narrowness' of mechanics lately.
And yes, Scry is one of the ones I'm referring to. What were there....like 10 cards that had Scry? It's an AMAZING mechanic. They could've scrapped Modular & Sunburst completely and MD5 would've been better for it, imho.
Doublestrike wasn't a set mechanic ... its here to stay, we WILL see it again, its just like flying, or trample, or first strike.
Not something they are likely to give out often, but still, permanently with us.
Scry was a mirrodin mechanic ... sure, nothings impossible, but comparing it to doublestrike doesn't work.

Doublestrike was in Scourge (dragon tyrant, yeah it came out in legions)
Splice imo is a very narrow ability and they made the alternate splice costs in Betrayers to much.
I would like to see something like
Destroy the
2BB
Instant-Arcane
Destroy target nonblack creature with converted mana cost 4 or less
Splice onto Arcane- pay 5 life
Splice really should harness things other than mana, and be a powerful effect that costs alot but reasonable when spliced
the second one would be really nice to splice on an early game reach... probobly way to good, but imagine if your opponent countered it, you would be out some card advantage...

"It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of Sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.'' -Mentat Creed
re Scry - Blue does stuff like that outside of Fifth Dawn like Sleight of Hand, Opt, Index, etc. Of course, Kamigawa already has Top so maybe that's an argument against it.
re White ressurection - White has had it before : Breath of Life, Reya Dawnbringer, Second Sunrise. It will probably have it against at some point. I think it fits as a contrast to Hero's Demise.
Actually now that I think about it, Blue or Red might get a spell or enchantment that gives cards Splice ability equal to their casting cost. Think of Recoup and Eyes of the Watcher.

See, you need some sort of black requirement, otherwise any deck could play it. Like they did that zombie with the colorless morph in OLS block. What was that zombie again..? Assassin?Cutthroat? Or something else altogether?
the second one would be really nice to splice on an early game reach... probobly way to good, but imagine if your opponent countered it, you would be out some card advantage...
You're kidding right?
Think about that - if you had a full grip (which is about the only way you could splice it):
1 Kodama's Reach
1 Worse than Worse card draw
5 random cards
You cast Reach and splice Worse than Worse card draw - you are then going to discard 3 of your remaining 5 cards (or better yet, discard the Worse than Worse) because the splice cost is paid before the spell resolves.
What does all of this do: gets you minus 1 total cards.
7 cards - cast reach+splice (3 cards - 3 discards to gy + Reach on stack); Reach + splice resolve (6 cards - Reach to gy; +1 land in hand; +2 cards drawn)
That might well be the Chimney Imp of blue card drawing.

I think he means Reach Through Mists.
First turn Play Reach through Mists Splicing this card to discard three and draw three for 1 mana. Not bad.
And I would most certainly play that card because Goryo's Vengeance needs another way to get creatures in the graveyard. Splicing that card would be amazing cuz you could go first turn Reach splicing that second turn Vengeance a Kuro Pitlord into play) swing and then sack the Pitlord to some effect (if they have a splice from graveyard that'd be hawt.)
How would that work anyways O_o?
Splice + Flashback = As long as this is in your graveyard you may splice it onto spells as though it were in your hand....
That'd be cool ^_^. Of course they would either all suck or get removed from game after use like flashback.
I am still waiting for a splice that says "Sack a creature."
Maybe sorcery speed splicing? THat might be a little risky. Perhaps like some sort of Rout effect?
Not Duress - B
Sorcery - Arcane
Target player reveals his or her hand then chooses and discards a card.
Splice onto Arcane - 2B
so you could give an instant some instant speed discard but it would cost more.
Not Stone Rain - 1RR
Sorcery - Arcane
Destroy target land.
Splice onto arcane - 3RR
ooh ooh! Maybe they'll do something like those gotcha cards!!!
Gotcha! - 1B
Sorcery- Arcane
Target player discards a card at random.
Whenever an opponent plays a spirit or arcane spell you may return Gotcha! from your graveyard to your hand.
That'd be fun. It's like Spectre's Wail but... with spiritcraft.
Maybe they could do something like Ichorid or its ilk?
Not Ichorid - 3B
Legendary Creature - Spirit
Haste, At end of turn sacrifice Not Ichorid.
Whenever you play a spirit or arcane spell you may return Not Ichorid from your graveyard to play.
3/1
or something that interacts with splice O_o?
Fusion Frenzy - 2U
Enchantment
Whenever a player splices a spell you may pay 1. If you do you may draw a card.
Arcanine - 2RR
Legendary Creature - Hound
Haste
R: Arcanine gets +1/+0 until end of turn.
Whenever a player splices onto a spell you may have Arcanine deal damage to target creature or player equal to its power.
2/3
Looking at Wizards' pattern of how they evolve mechanics throughout a block, I have a feeling we're going to see creatures and arcane spells with the splice triggering effect. "When this spell is spliced, do something additional".
For example:
Instant-Arcane
do something (deal 2 damage)
splice onto Arcane: G
When this is spliced, do something better (deal 4 damage instead)
or creatures:
creature - blah
Whenever you splice a spell, this creature does something
what do you think? thoughts?

I dont know if you realized it... but all the Splice onto Arcane spells are Instants!, it would be really broken if they make an Instant LD with splice, I mean: "EOT, I destroy your land W/splice, my turn, destroy other land without splice or with a Lava Spike/splice, then without splice"

Why in the world would instant LD be broken? You'd still want to use the LD on your turn, so that your opponent won't get an extra use out of that land.
Now Splicing LD...(assuming the splice cost is reasonable)...is another matter entirely.

Mechanically, anything with Splice HAS to be an instant. After all, if they made a Sorcery with Splice, there's nothing preventing you from splicing it to an Arcane Instant during the opponent's turn, and ruining the point of making the card a sorcery in the first place.
EDIT:
White - Arcane card that returns Legend(s) from your grave to play.
i'd settle for a blue card drawing splice spell(blue has no good card draw for block)
something like:
NAME 3U
instant arcane
draw 3 cards, then discard 1 card from your hand.
splice onto arcane: discard a card.
turn 1: Island, Reach Through Mists, splice NAME. Draw 4 cards.
Hmmm....sure, it nets you nothing, but neither does Brainstorm. And if you have an extra land or a useless spell in your hand, you're turning it into a better card.
All in all, I doubt they'll print draw without a mana cost.
Like I said for the last one, though, this would DEFINITELY be in Reanimator.
Black - Splice version of Cabal Therapy.
Red - A 4-5cc LD spell with an incredibly high splice cost.
Green - Splicable Battlegrowth or Lure.
White - Arcane card that returns Legend(s) from your grave to play.
Blue - Splicable card that gives you scry.

Just my 2 cents
ww5 instant - remove target creature from the game

Right, I forgot that NAME was spliced so it doesn't leave your hand.
