Wouldn't a Core Set mean something like e. g. one less Innistrad set? That means the Innistrad legendaries we get there would probably be the Thalia reprint and Anje etc. Legendaries they would have cut from MID and VOW due to the lessspace the Core Set afords them in expansions. Still not Gitrog etc.
It would have meant less D&D and pushing back the Brother's War set, though I am fine with an actual Magic product replacing the Core Set if it's a big anniversary like Brother's War.
Not really, even if we had a core set this year they would have likely still wanted to do this set and likely would have still used these characters. Also add besides maybe the gitrog, I think there are more requested characters that would have likely been picked instead when you open up to who can be in core sets. I doubt anyone would say they like to see Ogler over someone like Leshrac.
Yeah....they could have chosen other characters, but did those characters already have cards made and ready? That's the point I was making. Seems like right now they're more interested in making other IP's characters than their own.
… wizards… why the hell did you print a requested character on digital only and not MID or VOW
Stuff like this shows we can't be missing core sets anymore, this and the other Innistrad legendaries could have been put there rather than be in some strange digital format.
In the art book for Innistrad they note that the Gitrog, who was already a proto-emrakul spawn, and other similar monster were farther wrapped and mutated and I do like the new card reflects that.
If that is true (I say if because I do not know) then they may have left it out to not show anything related to eldrazi. A few cards might have art hints, but it seemed like they tried yet again to have as little or no references to eldrazi, just like in Zendikar 3 where there was one whole card. You'd think when a chunk of the planet is turned bismuth and ivory webbing you'd maybe see some of that.
I am not a fan of these "fixes" for cards. This is just going to lead to confusion later on and really shows that WotC really went off the rails the last few years and has a whole bunch of mistakes they pushed and need to nerf (I'm assuming far more nerfs than buffs will ever come from this.) Is it just me or is Magic changing a little too much as of late? It seems like they want to make a different game at this point.
The spellbook legendaries feel like they want to make another Commander format based on these effects.
Change the new Gitrog Monster a little and it could easily work in paper and if it wasn't for the fact we're missing yet another Core Set it likely could have been printed there. Just throw out Seek for search and the land ability to be "lands you control have" and there you go.
Captain Eberhart is worded really strangely with "this turn" even for these perpetual effects.
Patient Zero is an Un-card.
