As for reprints, they were not always for existing decks, but just making sure the format had various effects ready to help sure up formats (answers usually) which D&D did not have.
Ya thats basically my point imo the DnD has a number of cards that fill in that slot, what effect do you think they missed?

I share a concern about no Core Set thought I will say I feel like Adventures in the Forgotten Realms was pretty much a core set with how some of the cards where designed and the over all power of the set.
The Core Set isn't about power level,it's about reprints (which D&D had like 4 of) and making sure Standard has access to various staple cards for the format to function. Once again, there were reasons why them taking the core sets away were the wrong decision and why they eventually brought it back.
Thats mostly what I mean, imo we got a number of cards that felt like core set staples, a few things the enabled already existing decks, a few things that felt like set up for the next few sets and very much was made to bring in new players (though more narrowed to DnD players) into the game. It was much more leaned to non-core sets are set up but I personally saw the outline of a core set.

Anyways, apparently New Capenna is going to be the current set for 5 months, because there is no Summer set (although techniquely the September set could fall in the Summer, just like Midnight Hunt is still releasing in the Summer part of Septemeber), that means New Capenna will likely have a very high mastery pass level before bonus levels, maybe even larger then Zendikar Rising got.
I think it's good there is no Summer Standard set because Double Masters 2022 set is going to suck all the air and energy out of the room and could do to later sets like Dominaria United and maybe even Jumpstart 2022 what Modern Horizons 2 did to AFR, Midnight Hunt and perhaps even Crimson Vow. Brother War MIGHT be epic enough to be immune to this effect.
I cannot share the same enthusiasm about the summer set. We've seen what missing a Core Set can do and now we're going to be two years into missing it again. There's a reason they brought them back. We have yet to see the effects of their absence again, but it will be felt once again in time.

Ah okay, I guess it comes down too how canon her card is. Personally I just took them using her to help flavor a pushed merfolk for modern merfolk decks but I guess we will see.
I would assume any card from a mainline product (non-unset, non-secret lair, non-universes beyond) would be canon, but...
I mean...
*gestures at forgotten realms*
Mmm by canon I mean does she exists since she has a card? Again real world reason she got a card was to be a pushed merfolk for modern, but does that then lock in her being real in lore or is her card more a representation of who the character is in myths and tales.

The old flavour text (e.g. Svyelunite Priest) kept it ambiguous about whether Svyelun was just a mythological figure - as mythical as our Greek and Norse gods IRL - or actually a real god. Think the current status of whatever pre-Avacynian Innistradi sea gods Runo Stromkirk worshipped(/worships?).

Honestly i hope there won't be too much gods in the set. One cool thing (in my opinion) about Dominaria and old magic was that basically every god was a false god, they were just a bunch of elementals, avatars, weird amalgamations of an angel, a corrupted planewalker and a random woman or things like that.
Magic now has a different direction since gods are super popular, but i don't want that to be retroactively pushed on older planes.
Unfortunately there is precedence for that already.
I also would prefer if Dominaria was kept free of "actual" gods, but it seems like that barrier has been broken already.
Isn't she a character from the old lore anyways tho?

Tezzeret is a possibility but a) we already had "Tezzeret infiltrates a plane by climbing on top of the social ladder and instigating its natives to develop new tech for nefarious purposes" in Kaladesh and this would just feel like a rehash; and b) we already have one new Planeswalker confirmed for Kamigawa and he's a cyber-ninja, a combo that definitely feels at least partially UB which would conflict with Tezz's color identity.
Tezzeret can show up in mono-blue and leave Kyto UB, similar how it looks like Alrinn will be RG in this Innistrad set while Wrenn is in mono-green.
We also likely will get a new Tamiyo so Kamigawa just might be blue walker focused.
True but not entirely correct since Arlinn is in Midnight Hunt and Wrenn is in Crimson Vow.
Also reminder that while the plot can fit in as much 'walkers as it wants, the Mythic slots are another story, which makes the idea of a U, UG/W and a UB 'walker in a single set kinda iffy.
Could have Tamiyo in UG like war of the spark or if no Tezzeret mono-blue like Innistrad 1.
But again not sure if they said it was a planesawalker who was emperor or the possibility someone from the original block somehow lived (or they have a kami emperor now). Tezzeret just has been on the plane before thought as someone else has brought up Oko could be in disguise here.

I not liking any of the SL or UB (thought the LOTR looks fun), but everything else looks really cool. Glad to see Elspeth and Ob, hope for more ninja from Kamigawa and will be excited to explore Dominaria for the 30th anniversary.
I wonder how they're going to justify the lore we've already seen from current day Kamigawa. Because we know that there are sections that aren't all cyberpunked from the stories about Tamiyo and her children.
Said it before but it could reflect real world Japan where you have a bunch of cites and such but more rural areas (that also often are more traditional).
