Rudy is dead on. His background in finance gives him a more clear picture of what is happening. This transfer of wealth upwards has been going on for decades and is nothing new. Its just more blatant and obvious at this point in time and is being exacerbated by stimulus checks and covid rules. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle class shrinks away to nothingness as a lucky few ride the upward wave and the rest get crushed under it. MTG is just a sign of the times. Sealed and single prices will increase, more special editions will be printed to collect the money from the whales at the top and LGS (the middle class) will either be crushed and die or a few will have to go big and become a Star City Games, Channel Fireball or Card Kingdom. Playership will decrease, collectors/investors/hoarders will increase and it will all come crashing down at some point. I don't know where that is but it will come as it is all short term thinking right now at the corporate level. LGS aren't all going to die but the squeeze is on and only the healthiest will survive. Large city LGS will be the last as any small town LGS will have too big a hill to climb.

Sorry your post is way off topic and doesn't fit the thread. Its border-line scare-mongering and sensationalism. Lets keep it to Magic the Gathering please.

Humans as a species are social animals in general. We have existed for thousands of years as social animals. This will come to pass and we will return to a near normal within a reasonable timeframe. Ask yourself this question, would Jesus Christ want us to isolate from our fellow humans indefinitely? Read your scriptures, you will find the answer. We are all brothers and sisters regardless of race, identity, religion, creed or persuasion. This hiding isolationist crap is drawing close to the end, and none too soon. You will be playing in person by Fall or Winter and by next Spring this mostly will be forgotten about even as those in power strive to put these further shackles on us. We have been subjugating our pleasure, not letting it roll out of control. Live life, this will pass. Besides there is a lot more to life than Magic the Gathering. A LOT!!!

I have had both doses of the Moderna. No side effects for the first one. Some side effects for the second. Chills, low fever, fatigue, body ache, background headache. That is what you want your body to do the second dose. Many elderly recipients have a lowered immune response due to their age and won't show symptoms. Your body will hopefully show that it recognizes these foreign proteins and react accordingly.
I don't feel or act a bit different after each dose. Just like every other vaccine I've had during my life. And I've had a lot of them. This isolationist crap is soon to come to an end. Magic in person is coming back very soon, whether controlling politicians still want to cow us into fear or not.

As stated the Federal workers minimum wage was increased, not States minimum wages. It also doesn't matter what MSRP (Manufacturer's SUGGESTED retail price)is, it is just that a suggestion. Areas and LGS in those areas that jump to a $15 minimum wage WILL see an increase to the price of a pack or any product. Employers aren't going to eat that loss, they will pass it along to the consumer or cut minimum wage jobs/hours in the process. And yes if an LGS owner can't afford $15 hourly staff they will cut that staff or hours of that person or they will have to adjust their prices upwards accordingly. MTG is going to become MORE expensive over the next few years. Above what it normally would adjusted for inflation. Get ready for it.

so why would you want Paper versions of cards you can already obtain on MTG Arena when you can't really use them other than for EDH / Commander and maybe Pioneer?
Because some of us play for fun in person with family and friends and don't rely on outside bodies to schedule events so we can have "organized fun". And some of us actually prefer REAL physical cards that aren't 0's and 1's that could be taken away at anytime by WotC for whatever reason.

There is the problem. If the vaccine was developed by the government and not a privately owned company then yes I would be more hesitant to use it. That isn't the case with covid. It is being developed and tested by outside companies, Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson, etc. If they screw it up they 1. don't get paid and 2. get sued into oblivion I may not like the way the USA is being run at the current time, but there isn't any other country on the planet that I would trust more. Sorry your government failed the Philipino people. In the end its up to citizenry to root out the corrupt and evil. All vaccines are not bad. Research and do what you have to do. Best wishes. I am not afraid in the least to get a covid vaccine at this point here in the US. The sooner the better.
From the article...
As of August 2019, over 600 people (mostly children) that had received at least a single dose of the vaccine had died,[6] though not necessarily caused by the vaccine
Dengvaxia is approved for sale in 19 countries, including the European Union and the United States, and has saved an estimated 1 million lives.[1
I like those odds. How many of those children had underlying health conditions?
Lastly, I am not trying to belittle anyone who has founded vaccination concerns. What I am trying to do is show that a vast majority of the time the concern is irrational. And I am veering way off topic, we need to get back to discussing MTG.

I am about as conservative as it gets and I don't understand this fear of vaccines at all that comes from this side of the political spectrum. You have a lot more to worry about in life than if a vaccine is going to give you side effects. Requiring a vaccination for employment doesn't infringe on personal liberties in my book as long as it is paid for by the employer. I would have loved to have had the Chicken Pox (Varicella) vaccination when I was a child. It didn't exist at that time. I got Chicken Pox as a 3 year old. I then proceeded to get Shingles 42 years after that. It wasn't fun. Vaccinations are not evil, they are not the government trying to implant microchips or give us diseases. They are for the common good. Any manufacturer that knowingly and willingly produces a vaccine with intent to harm the populace will be found out and sued into non existence. It won't happen and if it does that company is done, over and gone.
Back to the topic, the vaccine is going to get us back to normal. The quicker the better. Playing Magic in person will be the icing on the cake.

My government did its best to save businesses from the worst of the COVID. As I said earlier in the thread there is no COVID here, because the border is closed and all cases tracked and quarantined (currently 8 active). They also announced further financial aid For example: small businesses here get free electricity until September (from April) as we still have government-owned power utilities.
Perhaps you should petition your government for help for local small businesses.
We have had the CARES Act and the Paycheck Protection Plan Act passed that combined is several TRILLION dollars of aid and low interest loans to small businesses. Some states have granted aid to small businesses as well. Our border is like Swiss Cheese with Mexico, covid travels freely into the country from the south and from air travel just about anywhere in the world. Western Australia I see has about 2.6 million people spread out over a HUGE area, with 2.0 million of that in Perth. (Basically a city and thousands of square miles of uninhabited bush country) Much easier for WA to contain and reduce over a population of 330 million concentrated in large cities all over the country.
Petitioning our government for help is about like pissing into the wind, near pointless as they do what they wish. And when they do something its slow and packed with pork riding legislation that increases the beuaracracy.
We lost 33% of our GDP in the second quarter. Shattering the record of the Great Depression. (Of the largest market on the planet) and we have over 26 TRILLION dollars in debt. Comparing Western Australia to the United States is like comparing raisins to grapefruit. Don't get me wrong, at this time I'd probably rather be living in rural Western Australia. Fixes here aren't simple.

If you have the opportunity to play MTG at home you can still enjoy it in Paper. But let's be honest, it gets old playing the same person over and over unless you change decks inbetween matches. Even the same 2 or 3 people.
Maybe if you are an extrovert yes. If you are introverted, its just fine. We all aren't the same. And yes my small group of family and friends have multiple decks in multiple formats. If we can't or don't afford a card we proxy it. Sharpie on a land lets you play any format you wish.

Except Paper Magic wasn't designed to be a "take home and play" board game
Wrong. Actually it WAS designed by Richard Garfield to be played AT HOME during Role Playing (D&D) down times if one group was separate with the DM and another group had some time to kill. It has changed from that model but it was DESIGNED as a play at home diversion. And that is what we did at the time as well. I lived it.
I take great comfort in knowing that anyone who cries the doom of paper magic has no idea how any thing actually functions and can be safely ignored.
I am starting to think along those lines as well.

LGS will fail or survive. LGS will return in time. It sucks, it isn't "fair". But its where we are at. Adapt and find your own answers. Patience and persistence is needed. Magic and gaming in general isn't over. Its changing. Hang in there.
The LGS had to end at some point. Why do we continue to latch onto things that no longer serve us according to God, especially If it's distracting us from getting closer to Him? Luke 16:13 says that no one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. It's hard because when it comes to gaming it glorifies ourselves more than it glorifies God. It doesn't necessarily mean that you hate God when it means that He's no longer the top priority to you while you're gaming which also kind of ties into the Lukewarm Christian mindset.
My friend I really think you need to speak with a professional and unburden yourself of some things you are carrying around.
LGS don't have to end and they won't. You are being irrational and you can't see that at this time and place in your life.
God doesn't mind if you like to play Magic, he has a lot more pressing issues on his plate now and forever. Don't compare mindsets of others as well in comparison to your own. YOUR relationship with your Maker is all that matters as long as it positive.
My last advice in this manner is that you should seek the advice of a professional. They are out there and they may even offer free services. Get yourself to a good place and the game will reveal what it is meant to be, a fun hobby that brings joy to your life. I wish I could do more than these words here, but know there are people out there, that CAN and WILL help. Stay strong and again, seek help and don't be ashamed if you need a hand. God's Blessings to you if I may offer them.

I think this sort of speaks to the "manchild" mentality of young millennials (like myself whose also part Generation X)
I'm confused, are you a Millennial or Gen X?
Eventually as we get older we have to rely on ourselves more than others just to survive in this ever changing world we live in and I think that's one of the cruel lessons I learned about the COVID-19 pandemic.
True. Count on the core individuals around you (family and friends). But realize it all comes down to YOU to look after YOURSELF. (If you are physically and mentally able). That doesn't mean you can be selfish, quite the contrary, help others how you would like to be helped.
It's real easy to allow nostalgia to cloud our judgment on things that don't match what is or isn't culturally relevant by today's societal norms.
Sorry, no. Those that ignore the failures of the past are doomed to repeat them, as the saying goes. Experience counts, its no end-all, but it offers perspective. Would you want a surgeon operating on you for the first time, right out of Med School? Or would you want an experienced Surgeon that has dozens of successful surgeries under their belt operating on you? I miss my mentors that have come and gone. Passed away and I can not now draw on their experience as I forge ahead. It doesn't mean you can't be open to new ideas, but we build a foundation on the past and present, not the future. Use nostalgia as a tool, not a template. We can't (and don't) need to go backwards to another time and model ourselves on it. We need to use those lessons to build/fix what is broken now or could be broken in the future.
LGS will fail or survive. LGS will return in time. It sucks, it isn't "fair". But its where we are at. Adapt and find your own answers. Patience and persistence is needed. Magic and gaming in general isn't over. Its changing. Hang in there.

STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
I'm confused, are you a Millennial or Gen X?
True. Count on the core individuals around you (family and friends). But realize it all comes down to YOU to look after YOURSELF. (If you are physically and mentally able). That doesn't mean you can be selfish, quite the contrary, help others how you would like to be helped.
