My thought exactly, this is a little worrisome that Gavin needs to put himself in a card. I still don't know what he does outside of marketing, I guess?
The rest of the stuff could get pretty spicy; I'm imagining the ramping card is a critter of some sort that gets you a Plains for every counter on it.
It's not a vanity card and Gavin didn't put his name on it. Gavin is a designer. He is often the lead of many ancillary products like Commander decks, and is likely to take up the role of head designer when MaRo retires. It's a different segment of WotC that gives the cards names and arts and flavor texts. In all likelihood it's a name that starts with "Gavin-" and it's just a coincident. The same as the card Maro isn't actually a vanity card for Mark Rosewater. Kind of *****ty to assume it's an ego thing.
not when it’s the most requested to receive one. Not when it’s demonstrated its popularity twice. Not when it’s tried and true. This is the first visit to Ikoria. It has something to prove first.!
While I agree with the Ikoria part of that statement I can't imagine, of all of the planes of Magic, that Theros was the most requested one. I think that's your bias for the plane shining through. Considering how much influence D&D already takes from Greek myth I can imagine that for most people Theros was pretty low on their radar for a D&D sourcebook. Especially when compared to much more unique planes like Zendikar or Mirrodin or Kamigawa. Or even Dominaria which, while not necessarily unique, definitely has more clamor for it to have more lore brought to it and even opened up to become a fully fledged campaign setting.
Well I'm expecting 14-15 new Legendary creatures from C20, and 20-35 from the regular Ikoria set, Theros had 37 and Throne of Eldraine had 20 (counting the brawl commander decks legends)
There's only 27 legendary creatures in Theros. I don't expect Ikoria to have as many uncommon legends as the plane of epic, mythological heroes. Like I said. I'm pretty sure we're going to see 4 commanders in each deck which makes 20. I'm sticking with my guess of around 30 and no more than 35 across the set and the commander decks. Don't forget we're getting 70 new legends designed specifically for commander at the end of the year.
How many legendary creatures can we expect on average counting Ikoria and C20, something on the range of 50-55?
Probably not that many. I think we'll have 20 in the commander decks(I can't remember where off the top of my head but I think it's been said that each deck would have 4 legends). I can't imagine the set itself would have another 20-25. Across both I'd expect around 30, including potential reprint commanders.

I'm pretty sure he said the first 5 letters of the cards name spelled Gavin. "Gavin-, Who Forges Beasts"
The last time Garruk had a rapture with a woman there was a whole big stink about it. Maybe we just let them hunt.
This literally came from the mouth of one of Magics designers. Decidedly not fake.

(I'm kidding)
