See title. I've played a Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper land deck for a while, using land animation and mass destruction like Jokulhaup to eliminating all threat but with my tokens remain. Before that, I had Yasova Dragonclaw land stealler deck.
Do people have other thoughts on who might be a good land commander, yet NOT land related?
How did your Yasova Dragonclaw land stealer deck work? Curious as I have a Yasova Dragonclaw but not yet quite found a way to make the deck work.
What Bob said, I got the idea while playing my Sek’Kuar. Reanimating land allows one to apply creature tricks into lands, which includes stealing them, damaging them, and bounce them (as creature). Cards like Seismic Assault let you discard extra lands to kill their lands, then replay via green’s usual land utilities.
And, by turning lands to creatures, they gain summoning sickness, which could be negated by having haste enabler on your side. Animated-lands are also capable of equipping.
Haha, I do love both commanders, Noyan being the oddball Zendikar merfolk who deal with lands is definitely refreshing. Ramos, Dragon Engine is probably doable as a land commander as well, if not green inclined.
Wait, I'm confused. You said explicitly NOT land related in the OP. In what sense are noyan and golos not land related?
I was expressing my adoration for Noyan and Golos. Especially Noyan. :3 A lot of people complained about its color, believed that it should have green in it, but I appreciate unconventional commander who fits the lore and with abilities inside its color pie.
Although also I wonder why NOT land related if you want a land deck?
The end purpose is to look for unique ideas, I personally enjoys challenging myself mentally. Mono-red used to be my least favorite, so I started a thread long time ago asking people for advice on how to build one, now it's one of my favorite color pie. It's always fun to exceeds expectations, including my own. In your case, most people mistaken Phelddagrif merely as a group hug commander, you've proven that's not the case, surely that brings certain satisfaction?
The aforementioned Sek'Kuar deck for example works wonderfully with animated lands in an unexpected way, which makes it a lot more stimulating to design and play right. Another deck I saw involving Thantis, the Warweaver, utilizing animate lands and landfall tokens to win a war of attrition. I want more ideas like these.
