708.4b. The mana cost of a split card is the combined mana costs of its two halves. A split card's colors and converted mana cost are determined from its combined mana cost.
Example: Assault/Battery's mana cost is {3}{R}{G}. It's a red and green card with a converted mana cost of 5. If you cast Assault, the resulting spell is a red spell with a converted mana cost of 1.
Right from the rulebook - so Embodiment will see a split with a mana cost combined.
Fair enough. I wasn't sure if they'd covered this. Thanks!
Now it makes me wonder how long they've been sitting on a card like this. It's pretty unique.
Split cards have one *CMC* in every zone except the stack, but this card is very clearly NOT checking for CMC per the parentheses text, hence my question. This is a whole new thing they're doing.
This is so bizarre...but it seems pretty good. Especially with the split cards and hybrid mana cards in standard, it's not really unreasonable for this to be a 3 mana 5/5 flying deathtouch as early as turn 4 or 5.
Would split cards give two counters?
And suddenly that funky overload discard spell from Horizons has a new purpose.
