You cannot suspend it, as the sig spell can only ever be in the command zone or on the stack. Any time it would go to another zone, it goes back to the command zone instead.
You cannot cast it, as it has no casting cost and cannot be cast.
ancestral vision as a sig spell; can i cast it or do i have to suspend it?
then, if it gets suspended and then cast it, can i suspend it again for U or do i have to pay 2U?
I suspect that since the spell can only exist in the command zone and on the stack, it can't get exiled to be suspended. But if that's not the case, then i'm not sure what applies.
It's been pretty fun though actually. It's pretty nutty, and compresses EDH into a similar experience but in a much shorter play time (which i like), and without having games lead to feeling like it's broken (it feels awkward when the game feels like it just broke, but the player who broke the game can't win the game yet).
Just curious, since there are no 'rules-threads' for oathbreaker, i'd ask 'em here.
If say i have narset, parter of veils as my general, and cast transmute artifact, my signature spell, can my opponent 'counter' it (fizzle it, whatever you wanna call it) by hero's downfalling narset?
i.e. the rules say that i can't cast my signature spell without having the general in play. But if it was in play as it was cast, but then removed before it resolves, does it fizzle?
One of the issues with Oathbreaker is that the rules are not completely fleshed out as they don't exist in the CR. That being said, the rules page does say this:
but your Oathbreaker must also be on the battlefield under your control as you cast it.
Legendary Sorceries are very similar that we can probably use that as a precedent. So, using these two pieces of information, the restriction of when you can cast your Signature Spell only requires your Oathbreaker to be on the field at the moment you announce the spell. Removing your Oathbreaker after the spell has become cast is too late to affect it.
yea, i mean that makes sense, thanks.
I'm liking this format, though it seems to reeeaaaallly skew hard towards combo. I mean, you're starting with 1 or even 2 pieces of the combo and/or tutor in hand at the start of the game. At times, especially the 2 decks i actually put some (not too much, mind you) time into, it feels like i'm playing 'slow' vintage (as in turn 1-2 lock piece, turns 2-3 drop combo piece, turn 3-4 win).
Has anyone else also found this to be the case? I'm considering putting some really harsh restrictions to my deck construction 'cuz i probably won't be able to stop myself.

i just meant that i can see having reset or some other untap all lands instant as the commander-spell + some number of lands/mana-doubler is a pretty sure-fire way to net infinite mana.
I like the idea of a 20 life format, though I'd actually wanna see some sort of errata to the rules to remove 'player elimination' from the game. Maybe something like when the first player gets killed from the game, at the end of that turn, the player with the highest life total wins (or something like that). this way, the table actually has reason to help the player who's going to lose AND remove the annoying waiting part of the 'game' (my favourite deck is famous for killing itself really quickly, so i do this a lot).
Is this format still somewhat mouldable still? or is it pretty much set in stone? some people in my playgroup has suddenly gotten really into this, so on the off-chance this sticks (unlike tiny leaders etc), i wanna make sure the rules are discussed/challenged enough that it's a significant step up from EDH.
i don't understand why some of the cards are on the banlist:
painter's servant? recurring nightmare? really? they're pretty tame in normal EDH as it is.. I suspect that they just started from the EDH banlist as a start, and then just added stuff to it.
And er... before anyone actually breaks it, put reset, early harvest, possibly even rude awakening on a watchlist. even a single mana-doubler in play can get quite out of hand fast. Also possibly bubbling muck.
but yea, i'm reserving judgement before i knock off a couple of games of it though. I've got somewhat low expectations though.
Could work to tilt your opponents I guess..?
I just saw it featured as a sig spell on edhrec for oathbreaker, so I figured I’d check.

heh.. that's exactly what i went with.. tezzeret, agent of bolas and whir of invention. goes turn 3 tez, turn 4 whir into bolas' citadel, and then storm into mana + tendrils of agony, then pitch the board to finish the table off.
the other build i have was narset, parter of veils + transmute artifact to tutor out teferi's puzzle box turn 4.
