Wow, I guess my experience with Profane Procession is vastly different from most of you. I run it in a number of decks, and it works really really well. Like Rumpy said, typically I want it to come down early to discourage people from dropping nasty stuff. But later on, I still think it is fantastic. The exile prevents recursion, you can snipe commanders without flipping it too early, and at the end of the game it's a source of card advantage.
I've not played with either of them, but i can definitely imagine profane procession being pretty good as a rattlesnake. That being said, i can imagine that the tempo hit on me would be so huge that i'm not sure i'd wanna do that.
despark i can see being better than anguished unmaking and utter end. that 1-2 extra mana is a LOT. i mean, what's the scariest things that generally pop down that you absolutely don't want to see, and HAVE to spend an entire card to exile? most of the time, they're 4 or more CMC. which is fine and dandy. But yea at the end of the day, a range of varied removal is probably the way to go.
