seems like it could use at least a few counterspells, but I find the idea hilarious.
Yeah, that's fair, I could probably use spell pierce if nothing else, to counter a board wipe or targeted removal aimed at jace to try to make me lose.
I might want to crunch some numbers on how likely I am to draw the 4x4 on turn 4 if I toss in more counters.
I do also want to actually make that ugin deck though
One of my buddies wants to try brawl, and I figured I'd give it another go. My girlfriend has also expressed interest if we can get something real going.
I was crafting a cool Ugin deck, but then it occurred to me that there's a really obvious, really boring, potentially really strong deck right in front of us the whole time.
Obviously that's with an ideal split, but it'll still be a turn 7 win even with a less ideal split, so long as you're able to draw 4 lands and 4 petitioners by turn 4. You just go to 23 on turn 5, 10 on turn 6, and then play jace, activate petitions, and activate jace to win on 7.
Same still applies if you need to kill someone with the mill instead - which might be the safer bet if you think they're going to be able to kill jace as an instant, or counter him a couple times.

1 Jace, Wielder of Mysteries
This is how you do the thing
35 Persistent Petitioners
21 Island
1 Karn's Bastion
1 Arch of Orazca
1 Blast Zone
So some quick math...
Turn 1
Mana:1, Hand:7, Petitioners:0, Deck:52
Turn 2
Mana:2, Hand:6, Petitioners:1, Deck:51
Turn 3
Mana:3, Hand:5, Petitioners:2, Deck:49
Turn 4
Mana:4, Hand:3, Petitioners:4, Deck:36
Turn 5
Mana:5, Hand:1, Petitioners:6, Deck:22
Turn 6
Mana:5, Hand:0, Petitioners:8, Deck:0 (when you want it to be)
Turn 7
Win!

In conclusion: lol.
