I actually hate this with a passion that burns like the sun.
See this is what I don't understand.
Like. This is such a bizarre hill to die on. You *hate* this... With a *passion*...?
Not racism, or domestic violence, or brutal dictatorship, or ethnic cleansing, political corruption, famine, war, or bullying, or even the undermining of intellectualism and learning by mainstream religion.
Nope. The thing you hate with a passion is a design of an oval with the word "magic" written at the top.
And I've seen similarly extreme comments repeated throughout this thread.
For real, what gives? This isn't a reasonable response or way to have a discussion about anything =(
and even if your actual viewpoint is a more reasonable "eh, i'm not a fan", why warp your language to the extent that there's literally no room for any kind of conversation anymore?
It’s called hyperbole. Seriously, pull yourself together man. The hate is of course exaggerated and it’s of course within context of the game. In other words, it’s relative and nobody is comparing their feelings of a product in this game to something that has legitate social implications.
There’s probably not a person in this thread who is kept up at night because of the card backs.
Again. Hyperbole and relativity. It’s sad that this even needed to be laid out...
It's for card sleeves and online only. They are not changing the card backs, it's way to late for that now.
This. It's just not going to happen. Relax people.
After seeing the negative responses to the design in how it relates specifically to this game and it’s genre, do you really think it’s a good idea for it to represent magic online?
Honestly, let’s say they do only use this for Arena. It still doesn’t say anything about what makes this game unique which isn’t so great for something that is trying to establish itself.
In other words, where DOES this look fit? Nowhere. It belongs nowhere near this game.
The won't change the physical card back. That is most likely for Arena. Changing card backs of already distributed cards is incredibly easy in a digital product.
I agree with you - this is most likely a change for Arena just like most of their other graphical changes recently like the focus on new borders and special legendary borders.
Having it be this “clean” (see ref. Bland) makes it feel like a base back and would encourage players to seek upgraded, custom card backs as progression rewards.
Still. This doesn’t fit the genre that this game lives in as others have noted
They need to get the eff out of here with this junk. Changing the logo was something I was very vocal about disliking. But at the end of the day, it didn’t affect my cards.
But, if they do this, I guarantee that I’ll never buy a new card again. It will all be secondary, classic backed cards for me.
They need to knock it off with all this change. It’s too much, too fast and ALL of it feels unwarranted.
Also, I realize that this is hypothetical so it may seem like I’m overreacting. I’m just saying, something needs to be sacred and the card back is all we have left. This shouldn’t even be a hypothetical.
