Well, let's look at this from a step back. I play 2x Vent and 2x Village with a singular concealed courtyard. I don't think having the white mana right away is all that important. There's only a select few cards that need it early. So I don't think this hurts all that much.
So when attacking with wildwood, you're attacking for 3 damage. The reach ability is almost completely useless unless you're blocking. The land taps for G/W and we really need BB on turn 3 and this alo needs to ETB tapped on turn 1 to achieve turn 3 BBx for LotV.
Alternatively, with vents, it attacks for 2 + life link. This is a 4 point life swing opposed to 3 with wildwood. The lifelink is actually relevant especially against decks like burn. it taps for B/W allowing it to be played on turn 1 or 2 so we can achieve our turn 3 BBx mana for Lilana.
This is just my opinion on the card but I actually think vents is just better. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just supporting my case for the card.
Stirring Wildwood is completely useless in my opinion. The whole reason to have man lands is to get attacking. You know what ability is no good when attacking? That's right! Reach!
All sarcasm aside, I honestly used to think wildwood was fine but the more I played with vent, the more I realized how useless wildwood actually was. I was just wondering why you personally didn't like it. I understand the bolt complex and all but if their bolting my lands so they don't die, it means I'm probably in a really good position.
Not really a fan of Shambling Vent and prefer Stirring Wildwood always, but i really wanted to have a consistent manabase. With this i have 19B/17G/15W sources.
I never liked Dark Confidant in Junk, so i went back to Grim Flayer. With Flayer i prefer Brutalities MB to hack some delirium in time. I've had very good results with a single Nameless Inversion in the past, it contains many combat tricks, but i went for consistency with the second Brutality. I never liked nor will like any baubles or spellbombs in the main to get to delirium, but that's personal preference.
Testing Shalai, Voice of Plenty in the MB. Played about 3 rounds online and already found out that it's a "must respond to" threat. People make weird choices when she's on the stack, probably partly because she's new. A resolved Lingering souls and her +1/+1 ability gives the same results as Township (which is great) and the additional flyer has been very helpful.
Trying a 2/2 split of Damping Sphere and Fulminator mage. I'm a bit sceptical of Sphere but i can see it being good against tron on the Draw (since mage probably is too late). I probably wont be able to board them in much, so tests will be limited.
yeah you are right besides stonies. So likely 3-4 targets. I think it will likely be the combination of cards will be telling in how games play out.
I hope now we get some people back on the abzan forum. The centralised list is still good and Jund has a big target on its back. Havent seen as many good placings for Jund recently
It was only a matter of time. I think the only reason jund was doing so well was there sheer numbers. There were a lot of people playing it. Since then, other strategies have come out that are just as good with BBE.
After that post, I went to modern thinking that the deck just couldn't hold up anymore although I managed to go 3-1. FYI I am running the centralized list.
The first match was against grixis control and I went 0-2. At no point did I think I would be able to out-grind this deck, they just have too much late game with tasigur, JTMS and Kcommand, I tried siding in Gideon AoZ although trying to fight the late game felt bad.
The next 3 matches were burn and two mardo pyro lists and I 2-0'ed each match. In these games, lingering souls really did a lot of work, mainly stabilizing the board until I found removal, so I was still happy that I was running white. Siege rhino though felt like it did very little other than against burn, it always just ate a removal spell after investing 4 mana into it.
So I have also decided that the low to the ground BG splash white deck is probably the way to go. Lingering souls is still an amazing card for BGx and there are two lantern players at my LGS so stony silence is worth playing white for. The reason I want to go lower to the ground is to get under the other midrange and control decks running JTMS and BBE, I don't think there is another option for beating them as now they do just out value us.
I'd be interested in seeing your list. I haven't played Abzan in a while but I was thinking about throwing it back together this weekend with Rhinos.
Yea this is all just a pile of fun cards that I wanted to throw back together in a deck and just run with it. Normally I wouldn't run bobs with rhinos or rhinos with bobs but I can't help myself. I want to smash these cards together and call it a deck. I'm excited to have the games where I could lose to bob flipping a rhino. I just want something everyone at the table can have a good laugh about.
I know I'm going to catch a lot of grief on this but this is the deck that I want to run this weekend. I know all the things people are going to say but I just can't help myself. This is what I want to do so I'm going to do it.
And yes I know I'm running 3x Rhinos and I should be running 2 or none (especially with Bobs).
I know Doran doesn't look great here and probably shouldn't be played.
The one path seems out of place.
there's only 2 Thoughtseize.... blah blah blah.
I get it. I am aware of all the things wrong here. I just want to do all this stuff again. It all just looks too fun and I'm super greedy. I don't mind giving up wins at an FNM just to cast my Rhinos again
