I imagine 2x Wrens is probably closer to what we'll have. No opinions on Last Hope with Wren.
UW Control...has received SO much these past two years. I actually think GBx is significantly worse than UWx now as far as fair decks go. I don't have it in me to play 50 minute games in large tournaments every round though.
You're trying to reinvent the deck a little too much, I think. If Jund restructures that much it'll be become Jund Loam because the deck of choice for Jund, not this.
I wonder if Wrenn could even be a 3 of. He synergies nicely with LOTV on curve. Turn 2 play him, turn 3 LOTV it up. Something like -1 Land, -1 Bob, and -1 of something else. It'll deal with the "Do I want to play 4 Bobs with 4 BBE's in the deck."
Wrenn also works nicely in that little creatures swarm the board one can be pinged away and the other could be edicted. Replacing Bob straight up is not viable though, he's still our best CA in the deck.
I also like the idea that Raging Ravine's could come back to our hands in grindy matches.
I wouldn't add Grim Flayer, he's only making your deck super soft to GY hate at that point.
What does everyone think of Wrenn and Six? Cut down to 23 land maybe, and run 2-3 of him? The retrace late game could be great if you have him on the field, pitch a land to cast a spell from grave, get the land back to play it for turn. Or do it the other way if you have no land to pitch, get a land then pitch it to cast a spell. Seems like he could be pretty decent. Biggest problem I see is there are already a lot of 2-drops that we want to play. Overall though, I see some potential in him.
I'm excited for this card as a 1 or 2 of. I think Jund players are dismissing it way too quickly. It's a grim lavamancer that creates CA advantage, a great ult, and pings away annoying creatures. For 2 mana. This should definitely be tested.
Is this DRS or LOTV? No. But "I think it warrants serious testing.
It's the first card in the set I've seen that's made me excited. I'm still not high on Force of Despair or Peatland until they prove otherwise.
The card is awkward in mana. It's almost just worse than pulse.
Unless standard gives Jund a removal like Trophy without the setback going against us, answers isn't really what Jund needs.
Jund needs either a broken creature or something that gives some amazing card filtering. The instant and sorceries for the most part isn't what this archetype needs anymore---of course unless WOTC power creeps and give something straight up better than bolt and push.
I think we could look into trying to become a looting deck? If you cant beat em, join em. So I think we need just enough payoff to enable looting.
I dont think we will ever get better card selection than looting in jund colors
So, theres several issues with that. Jund is constructed in a way that a quick swap doesn't work.
Faithless looting is card disadvantage, not a big deal when you're getting rid of bad cards, right? The issue is that jund leans very heavily on Lotv to beat combo and land decks. One discard and a turn 2 goyf can sometimes be enough if a deck stumbles enough, right?
In my experience it often takes 2 discard in some form and a clock to beat those decks if they dont stumble. Or we have no clock and have an abundance of discard. Fitting in loot without lotv would require some large changes.
Then theres bedlam....he completely clashes with Bob. We can't realistically run multiple 7 plus drops.
What about when we keep a hand better off against creature decks? Now we can't even fill the graveyard to fill up for bedlam.
At that point why dont you just run mardu? Mardu is fantastic against creature decks but has a slow clock, and lingering souls isnt good in this meta.
I dont think it's an accident how decks are starting to look, decks are seeing more live top decks or burning through the library.
If you guys look on mtggoldfish there is a trend, the top decks have either a low land count, or a ton of ways to see the deck. Jund runs 24 to 25 lands with no filtering. Guys, that's huge and it's a real problem. As modern slowly catches up to legacy I think we will see more of that. If arena doesn't kill modern off, I imagine something like grixis or sultai will be the forced colors to thrive in midrange.
And flyer, I dont agree with you on wotc and the cards they make. In a year they printed azcanta and teferi while unbanning jace...in one year UW went from being a tier 3 joke to top dog over the summer. That can easily happen to gbx.
It feels awful to say, but we need a huge unban like pod or shaman, and that's not happening. It could result in disaster.
Ive been jamming shadow decks and that 17 to 18 land count is gigantic.
Grixis shadow isnt a bad meta call. I said it looked better than people realized, and then it had a ton of top 8s in mtgo and some other events and has nearly doubled on mtggoldfish. I may not be an accomplished player but I do often feel confident in my assessments about modern
