What do you think about playing 1-2 Hazorets in the sideboard again?
She gives you an edge in the grindy games, dodges everything except path/edict and solidifies the more aggressive stance of Jund towards the other flavors of GBx.
When everyone has premium removal that ramps you, an indestructible threat that can also use your excess mana sounds great in my book.
The grind deck to beat is UW Control in my opinion. And Hazoret is not good against them.. Path, terminus, Teferi take care of him.
Not sure about hazoret;
Well I don't think so, I did the math alongside Frank Karsten's article on the hypergeometric function for how many lands you need to consistantly make your landdrops, and we are on the low side of things when you run 23 lands. As we know Jund works great if we can cast multiple spells a turn. But alongside Ravine and the Fastlands, often you will have only 3 untapped lands on turn 4 with 23 lands only, which is really bad in my opinion.
Since you think 23 lands are fine, can you state why?
I'm my personal experience, I flood less with 23 lands and rarely have issues making land drops. There's really no deep answer as to "why," it's just the amount that feels right to me.
With 2+ four drops I wouldnt go under 24 lands.
With no four drops maindeck, 23 lands felt optimal to me.
There's a small Nombo between sweeper and Goblin rabblemaster.
Maybe I'll try in the nexts few days 2x Grim Lavamencer instead of Kozilek Return and Anger of the god.
Not 100% sure it'll work tho.
One more thing, I kept 2 goblins rabblemaster in the deck against affinity.
It did pretty well. As soon as my oponent felt behind, The clock was very fast and my damage higher than his damage.
My clock was better than his clock. 3 is too much in the mu but 2 felt great.
4-0 in a 16 people fnm tonight with duke list; I dont have time for long explication about each round but I'll write something quick.
-2 collective brutality (dont have them paper, they are rare in my city)
+1 night's of soul betrayal
+1 lili last hope
+1 engineer explosive
Was easy, Lavamencer, kcommand and 4push MD did the job.
Olivia won game 1 by herself btw;
You have Etched champ on board? FINE. My Olivia hit harder (=
Ponza (land destroyer)
Pretty hard matchup, but I was on play. I think the matchup can be win on play; very though on draw.
I got good draws. The only ''good play'' I did was:
On turn 3, there is 1 noble in his graveyard and relic on play. So I shock myself on turn 3 to get 2 green manaopoen.
At the end of my turn he used his relic to exile the noble. In respond I eat noble. In respond he sac his relic to exile
all grave. Then in respond I eat again the noble. Shocking myself on this turn was huge because I had to to eat the bird and it alowed me to play arround anger of the gods/Bonfire. On his turn 3 like a miracle he dopdecked Bonfire. If I dont do the
play, my ooze would have died and I would have lost the game (Ooze did pressure all game long).
Voice is anoying, Coco is anoying (thank you cage)
I conceded game 2 because I felt I was losing and we had just 15min left on timer. It wasnt unwinable,
but I was pretty sure my chance of winning game 3 were pretty high. One thing was sure. ''Draw'' wasnt a possibility.
Game 3 was pretty close. I finished at 2 Hp. Found a way to stablize the board with Olivia on board.
I loved so bad my baloth in game 2. I've been so patient with it; I had tarmo on board with 4 land (1 raging ravine).
I was playing arround lili keeping mana open to active raging ravine in answer to lili. So.. if he makes me discard. I drop baloth.
If he drop lili or smallpox to kill tarmo, I active raging. He makes me discard baloth + kcommand. Then I drew a land so I attacked with baloth, tarmo and baloth. I was sad about his wrench mind.. I wanted to live my dream.
My dream is: I drop baloth, he kills baloth, he makes me discard, Kcommand bring back baloth in hand in respond.. DREAMMMM
Funny fact, exept my first win, the 3 others player I played against finished 3-1 (so I've been their only lost)
So I finished first and I've beat the 2nd, the 3rd and the 4th.
I like the list overall gg
Jund can still win and is still playable.
7-1 to my 8 last matchs at a FNM.
Imagine my next turn if I draw land?
Hazoret + Tarmo + ravine. You see how agressive and beatdown it is?
I was 100% win. Would you take the risk to die to DS next turn if he had it (Bolt+push)?
He knows I had ravine on board, he knows I had tarmo on board and attacked anyway.
Flyingdelver, I said that sometimes (Rarely) I have nothing to play, nothing to kill. So I played him without being actived to
get value next turn. I played over 80 games with the list. So alot of situations happens in 80 games.. Most of time I dont play
him on turn 4.
@Godrik Actually I am wondering, did you have any situations where you wanted to play Hazoret and you had too many cards in hand to make him a creature? Thats basically the only fear I have playing him, sometimes, like, when you need a blocker, you want to play him and block, but just can't because its not a creature.
In that regard I feel Hazoret doesn't help when you are behind, like when you are screwed in mana or just get outtempoed by some aggressive decks.
It happened that I had no pressure from my oponent and I played him on turn 4 with 3-4 cards in hand. Of course, If I can.. I will dark or tarmo first
to keep removal up. Everytime I droped him without having 1 or fewer card in hand, the next turn I had 1 or fewer card in hand. so all I lost in the
Against very agressif deck (elf, goblins, affinity) I think it's the only matchups where I would sb him out for some sweeper.
I would really test the first list I posted first.. then make the changes you want. I fear your curve being too high and dont like him.
With 15 drop 1 (9discards).. the hand get empty pretty quickly. Maybe the duress could be collective brutality tho.
Axman, the deck is good because of both card together. Glorybringer just had to the agressive aspect of the deck why being able to remove a blocker.
I would not play 2 glory bringer; Curve would be a bit too high. As I said, on mtgo I drew most of time Hazoret without drawing Glorybringer and
I'm definitivly sure he deserve a slot. I think 3 is a bit too much tho because you want to empty your hand before playing him;; when you have 2 copies in hand,it a bit harder to play him with haste. It's the best 4 drop in my opinion to fulfill that role. Anyway man, I think we are at a point you should test him yourself to make your own opinion (with the list I posted). You will see if you like or not. To finish, of course Glorybringer is pretty good. I dont remember I lost a game when I drop him. But it's a 5 drop.. I would not play more than 1 x 5 drop in jund.
What can't you understand? I said he put pressure on the opponent.
End the game quicker. Hard to remove. That's what he gives to me.That's what I want. If you want a drop 4 winning the game for you IF he doesnt get answered. Play it. I'm looking for an agressive and consistent list who's not always trying to defend. My oponent feel behind most of time because
my creatures hit hard. The haste is dangerous and surprising. Of course the
sky of kalitas/Olivia against aggro is higher but is it good against everything? Just like Hazoret is? NO. You don't have to like him. He's like my turn 4+ beat down creature. He's my death shadow without having to go low on life total.
The god has been good "Alone" in the way my oponent was never able to answer him.
He was taking at the very least 5 dmg per turn (or losing a creature) putting huge pressure on him. He helped to close the game quicker. There's a good synergie with dark confidant too. Being able at a point of the game to discard 2 cards per turn is great.
Huntmaster will get bolted with a 2/2 left and 2 life gained. I don't hate the card but
I expect better from a 4 drop (Rip BBE).
Kalitas will be killed most of time with no zombies. Bad against control and combo deck.
Hazoret is ALWAYS good. Insane pressure. Hard to deal with. Block forever any creatures on ground (hello reality smasher). Kill combo deck faster. The god is very consitent. That's why I love him so much.
Yes, yesterday I drew Hazoret into Glorybringer often. On mtgo I don't draw Glorybringer so often. Hazoret still helps me to win most of my game on mtgo without Glorybringer.
As I wrote earlier, the clock is fast with him. It happened I'm under 10 lifes and my oponent over 18 lifes,I top deck Hazoret. 3 turns later he's dead.
5 dmg + 7dmg + 7dmg ;;gg
