Donald Trump’s former national security adviser is under formal investigation by the Pentagon for his apparently undisclosed paid speaking engagements in Russia, it emerged on Thursday.
Retired army lieutenant general Mike Flynn, a former Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) chief, has attracted the official scrutiny for potentially failing “to obtain required approval” for a Moscow speech to RT, a state-controlled news channel that US intelligence considers an arm of Kremlin propaganda.
Acting Pentagon inspector general Glenn Fine disclosed the inquiry in an 11 April letter to the House oversight committee, which is also investigating Flynn. The committee released Fine’s letter on Thursday.
This reeks of what the FBI and Treasury department did to Al Capone. Charge him for a relatively minor crime that they know they can make stick. And in this case I guess try and use that to leverage him into some agreement to spill the beans on what else might have gone on in the Campaign.

Russian computer programmer held in Spain 'under US warrant'
A Russian computer programmer has been arrested in Barcelona, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in Madrid said on Sunday.
It was unclear why Pyotr Levashov was arrested. The embassy spokesman declined to give details and Spanish police and the interior ministry were not available for comment.
RT, the Russian government-backed television channel, reported that Levashov had been arrested under a US international arrest warrant and was suspected of being involved in hacking attacks linked to alleged interference in last year’s US election.
Peter Carr, a spokesman for the criminal division of the US justice department, said: “The US case remains under seal, so we have no information to provide at this time.”
Yeah, I'm not producing a thorough bibliography filled with statements half of which I either didn't make or have been asked/answered over and over again. You want to ask me a single question, go ahead.
You made all the claims you were asked about in 1 post. You were asked to clarify what you meant in that post with examples straight afterwards. I have then reiterated that request twice.
If you have forgotten it here is the post in question
I mean, I knew it was going to be bad, but I didn't think it'd be as bad as it's been. It hasn't even been a week and it's spiraling so badly out of control. It really makes me wonder how exactly the next four years are going to have any silver lining when it comes to the government short of open revolt.
How is this bad? It's pretty awesome so far. He's doing basically the same things that almost every other POTUS candidate would have done but in funnier ways. For example, exposing steaming pile of garbage Buzzfeed and their fake news pals. One thing that impressed me so far is how much work the guy is putting in. He's on an absolute tear right now. I get the sense that we're supposed to be super pissed at the idea that American taxpayers aren't funding abortions overseas anymore but honestly that doesn't bother me.
I mean, if the only thing you feel you can do is fiddle that's all fine and dandy, but other people are going to be more concerned with putting out the fires he's setting. Granted there is only so much that can be done, but it makes me glad I live in California given that the state seems ready to fight him tooth and nail. Half-hearted resistance isn't really going to work here.
I'm not fiddling. I'm asking reasonable questions like "what has he done?" and getting Hitler comps as answers.
Obama bombs Yemen, wins Nobel Peace Prize. Trump places temporary ban on Yemeni immigration and he's Hitler. You see how this is difficult to take seriously? Meanwhile, the hijab is a symbol of female liberation and Western Christianity is repressive, Mexico is telling the U.S. that it can't do anything about its porous southern border all the while Mexico itself sure as heck is concerned about its southern border, NATO is whining about the U.S. being a poor ally when practically everyone besides the U.S., U.K. and Poland haven't fulfilled their treaty obligations in decades, Bern fans are complaining about Trump being an isolationist just because he's treating trade exactly like Bernie promised to and leftists are outraged at the phrase "alternative facts" after they've been warping the minds of our children with their moral and cultural relativism for years.
She also incorrectly said that Trump "is wrapping his arms around Putin, while Putin is continuing to advance into Korea" -- apparently meaning to reference the Crimea.
Looks like CNN have covered it.
Now you are here ther are a load of questions directed towards you. Answer them please.

In addition to spinning a Massacre out of thin air it appears that Trump is claiming that certain attacks weren't given the media attention they deserved. The Guardian have the list here along with how they were actually reported.
On reading the list I was struck by something I am saying a lot up in Rulings, when asking about something specific spelling counts. Its not so bad when it means I need to do a little extra work to get card text, but when you are a government agent of one form or another the ability to spell 'Attacker' and Denmark correctly does help. Or if you can't, learn how to use that do you mean sugestion Google gives you...

Ljoss you have been active on the site since this post was made.
Would you care to provide back up for your points as stated below. Or are we to come to the conclusion that like a lot of your recent posting you can't as its connection to reality is tenuous at best.
Also, Trump's refusal to drop his financial ties means that the previously canceled pipelines he's used an executive order to keep building might be directly profitable for him. [link]
There is nothing in the linked article which establishes or implies the conflict of interest you're claiming here.
You sure about that?
Shares of ETP, the company building the 450,000 barrel-a-day Dakota pipeline, ended the day up 3.5 percent in U.S. trading.
Trump owned ETP stock through at least mid-2016, according to financial disclosure forms, and ETP's chief executive, Kelcy Warren, donated $100,000 to his campaign.
That states that he had a very recent and potentially continuing interest in one of the companies that has directly benefited from the pipeline being approved. And that the chairman of that company donated a significant sum of money to Trumps Presidential campaign. Whilst Reuters are hedging their bets and not directly saying that Trump still has an interest in ETP, probably because they don't have absolute proof. The fact that so soon into his presidency he could be seen to be blatantly rewarding one of his supporters is worrying especially if the White house is going to be applying pressure to the relevant departments to expedite the approval process with out giving enough time for discovery.
So that has just removed one potential conflict of interest in the matter. That large political donation is still worrying considering that one of Trumps first actions made the ETP Chief Executive significantly richer.
Whilst there is no proof at the moment and it is unlikely that any would surface, neither are idiots after all, it is smelling a lot like the cash for questions scandal we had over here.

So much for the Vaunted American Freedom of the Press.
Quote from Four more journalists get felony charges after covering inauguration unrest »
Four more journalists have been charged with felonies after being arrested while covering the unrest around Donald Trump’s inauguration, meaning that at least six media workers are facing up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted.
A documentary producer, a photojournalist, a live-streamer and a freelance reporter were each charged with the most serious level of offense under Washington DC’s law against rioting, after being caught up in the police action against demonstrators.
The Guardian learned of their arrests after reporting on Monday that the journalists Evan Engel of Vocativ and Alex Rubinstein of RT America had also been arrested and charged with felonies while covering the same unrest on Friday morning.
All six were arraigned in superior court on Saturday and released to await further hearings in February and March, according to court filings. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said late on Tuesday that charges against journalists who were covering the protests should be dropped.
Those people who voted for Trump in the hopes that he won't get involved in a war with Russia hold be happy.
Pity he is pressing all the right buttons to piss China off.
Quote from Trump inauguration: Taiwan delegation could "disturb Sino-US relations" »
The war of words between China and Donald Trump flared again as China urged the US not to let a Taiwanese delegation attend his inauguration.
Trump previously broke decades of diplomatic protocol by speaking directly with Taiwan’s president after winning the US presidential election in November.
China said it opposed the Taiwan delegation’s attendance, which could “disturb or undermine Sino-US relations”.
“We once again urge relevant parties in the US to allow no delegation sent by the Taiwan authority to attend the inauguration ceremony of the president, and not to have any official contact with Taiwan,” said Hua Chunying, a foreign ministry spokeswoman. “This message has been delivered to the sitting US administration and the Trump transition team.”
China will send its ambassador to the US, Cui Tiankai, to the inauguration.
China sees Taiwan as a breakaway province and has often used military threats to discourage a formal declaration of independence. Trump has infuriated China by suggesting the “one China” policy – a diplomatic status quo under which Beijing’s claims are not contested – could become a bargaining chip in future trade talks.
I'm placing them in the same category because they're both news stories that are entirely make believe.
So you are currently trying to deny that CNN, The Guardian, numerous other news outlets and Senator Mccain were all handed a doissier that contained a number of very explosive allegations concerning Donald Trump and his possible links to Russian attempts to subvert the recent Electoral Process.
If you are doing the above in attempting to claim the CNN story is in the same class as the recent story Democrat run Kiddy fiddly ring being run out a D.C Pizzeria then Tiax is quite correct you are not using the same definintion as the rest of the world. Hint yours is the wrong one.
The 'dodgy dossier' exists and is currently with amoungst other people the relevant sections of the FBI. This is news and once they felt that there was enough basis to warn both the President Elect and the Outgoing President there is a legitimate reason to atleast report on its existence and once Buzzfeed had published the dossier in full there was also a legitmate reason for other new outlets to report and comment on that fact.
If you were actually interested in the story and not engaged in some blinkered attempt to discredit it at all costs you would have noticed that the 'liberal press' have not exactly rallied round to defend Buzzfeed for publishing the full doisser. Rather they have called it foolish.
Largely because people are getting hung up on the details and at least publically not asking other important question related to it like if it was handed over to the FBI how much did Director Comey know about it and if he did know of its existance what colored his disicion not to announce its existance and an investigation into it to the world like he did that botched final investigation into Hillary's email servers thats only result was to foolishly project his organisation into the political arena at a very sensitive time when it should have remained politically neutral.

Looks like the Republicans just want to roll over and get the transition done as fast as possible, ethics and conflicts of interest be damned
Quote from Many of Trump"s cabinet nominees have not been through ethics review »
Several of Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees have not completed a full review to avoid conflicts of interest, the government’s ethics office has said, even as Republican senators move quickly to hold at least nine confirmation hearings next week.
'He'll take a chainsaw to it': is Obama's legacy strong enough to survive Trump?
In a letter to Senate leaders, the director of the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) described the current status of several nominees, some of whom are billionaires and millionaires, in the ethics process and expressed concern about the lack of ethics reviews just days from committee hearings.
The Associated Press obtained a copy of Walter Shaub’s letter.
“During this presidential transition, not all of the nominees presently scheduled for hearings have completed the ethics review process,” he wrote, to Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Elizabeth Warren, both Democrats.
“In fact, OGE has not received even initial draft financial disclosure reports for some of the nominees scheduled for hearings.”
A copy of the letter also was provided to Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell.
Republicans are intent on getting as many of the president-elect’s choices through the arduous confirmation process as quickly as possible so his team will be in place soon after Trump takes the oath of office on 20 January. Democrats have complained that the GOP is moving too fast and that they lack information about some of the wealthiest Americans ever to serve a president.
Then if everything is above board why do the state legislatures throw so many obstacles in the way of people wanting to do an audit of the election to ensure that nothing odd has happened.

Just seen an interesting article on another matter that had something relevant to the discussion over potential hacking of the voting machines.
Quote from Five things that got broken at the oldest hacking event in the world »
Elections
Voting on paper might seem woefully old-fashioned in the 21st century, but one hour in Chaos Communications Congress will leave you very relieved if your country still votes the old way, and very concerned if it doesn’t.
J Alex Halderman and Matt Bernhard, both of the University of Michigan, discussed attempts to prove that the US election wasn’t hacked, whether by Russia or some other attacker.
Their findings were concerning: not only would it be entirely possible to alter the results reported by a number of electronic voting machines while leaving no obvious trace of your attack, it would be possible to do that at the scale needed to hack an election.
“I’m pretty sure my undergraduate security class could have changed the outcome of the presidential election,” Halderman said. “It really is that bad.”
That wouldn’t be so bad, since every electronic voting machine used in the United States leaves some sort of paper audit trail, either in the form of receipts printed off to mark the vote, or the physical ballot paper scanned in in the first place.
Except no one counts the paper trail, and legal attempts to force them to do so ended in a costly deadlock in December 2016.
The one piece of good news? The abortive recount didn’t find any evidence that a hack had happened; it just also didn’t find evidence that it hadn’t happened.
The rest of the article can be found here if any one is interested in seeing what else we either rely on now or are very likely to rely on in the future got broken but I have snipped out the relevant bit to the thread.
I have to admit that I am concerned that Halderman believes that his undergraduates would have been able to alter the results of the election. And whilst we haven't yet been able to difinetively prove that the election was hacked the old adage abscence of proof is not the same as proof of abscence.
If I were a US citizen I would be petioning my State represnentatives, congress person and senators to get the minimum standards of security on these machines increased. Forget about voter registration this is potentially a far bigger cause of election fraud.

On to an actual substantive debate: Obama is pursuing sanctions against Russia. How do we think the transition of power will affect this?
Obama has attempted to put Trump in a lose/lose situation. Making Trump either face down either his own party or Putin very early on in his presidency.
Either Trump is going to ignore what his own intelligence people are telling him is what happened during the election and will reinstate the diplomatic missions which is going to upset the Republicans in congress who are disappointed that Obama hasn't taken any more substantial actions against Russia.
Or he is going to maintain the sanctions which is going to make his plan to ease some of the tensions with Russia a lot harder to do.
This does presume that the republicans do not turn into 2 faced *****s the instant that Trump takes office and start supporting everything he does.
