It sounds like Thragtusk was an all star when it came in. I haven't been impressed with world breaker (perhaps I just haven't had a good chance to use it) and might try a thragtusk in that slot in the main even. Also, if the meta shifts at all and if we can swing the mana I'm wondering if a pair of kitchen finks in the sideboard might be helpful against the faster decks out there such as burn and aggro, not quite as good as thragtusk but you definitely get added value out of it with displacer as well by blinking and removing the -1/-1 counters for extra life and a recurring blocker.
I've been doing a bunch of testing in the last few days with Bant and it's just so good. The deck offers plenty of decision making room for the pilot but isn't overly complicated so I think it is a good choice for large multi around events too as you are much less likely to become fatigued. The power level on some of the draws are just insane too and there isn't much fat to trim or questionable slots to place in the deck at the moment in my opinion. There really only seems to be 2-4 flex spots to play with at the moment.
A lot of modern decks just can't do anything to beat us pre board as they can't keep up with our good or better draws and the sideboard slots allow us to really shift into a favorable matchup against some of our weaker pre board match ups. Loving the deck, nothing feels better than turn 2 Thought Knot followed up with Reality Smasher next turn and then into a turn 4 or 5 drowner (it sounds like christmas land, but it happens more than I would have expected).
As for tier status, I fully expect this deck to be up into developing soon and even tier 2 following more good results.
So, how is this deck against Affinity? What are its weak matches? I have been on BW Processors for quite a while and am liking this deck's style, but having so much game against Robots with my current build makes me wonder about the switch.
Affinity pre-board is very rough unless you have a fast hand from what I've seen, not a lot of ways to interact and they can simply go over us in the air.
Post board however, the game changes to slightly in our favor with some great hate in stony silence, engineered explosives, etc. I feel like you go from being down 40/60 pre board to being up 55-45 or so post board. You win if you draw your hate basically.
I agree with you assessment. If you want the pieces, get them now. I would start with Nobles, than Caverns (if they're not reprinted in EMA). I'm pretty sure the prices will jump big time if this takes down a tournament when Modern season hits this August.
I don't see Caverns being reprinted in EMA but it could be reprinted in Eldritch Moon. It doesn't harm standard a ton to reprint it and it will need one sooner or later.
I'm torn on this as I only need the caverns but have my main deck to play in the meantime still. I also don't think they will be in EMA, but hopefully reprinted soon... I just can't quite justify over $30 each for the three more I need, but those are the only cards I'm lacking...
Also, I know this isn't the price discussion forums, but does anyone else feel like some of the eldrazi are going to go way up in price a few years down the road after their sets are out of print. Thought Knot feels like a $15-20 card to me, but may just be too niche due to colorless mana.
So I have everything from Pascals list, -3 Cavern of Souls. Do I go +3 Ghost Quarter or colored mana?
I think the key is having enough colored mana to drop a mana dork on your opener at a reliable rate. I haven't crunched the math but I would start by counting the number of sources that give you access to green in your opener and running the percent chance of having an opening hand with green in it. If I had more time at the moment I'd run it for you and pull that from the list.
Yeah, removal is a problem for this deck, lucklily, most removal doesn´t work against this deck(Abrupt Decay, Lightning Bolt). Although Jeskai can Path him, but not too worried about that matchup, it seems good.
So, on another note, i´ve been testing Eldrazi Mimic, and i think it is quite good.
I found that this deck is all about grinding against grindy decks and racing against faster decks. You certainly can´t play the control role against fast decks like Bogles, Affinity and Burn. Ancient Tomb and mana dorks makes racing very easy. You just have to mulligan until a fast hands shows up.
Also, i think Plan A for this deck is to close the game ASAP, so Mimic does that very well, it´s a must answer for the opposing deck, and it fits in the curve perfectly. I wouldn´t go above 1 tho...
I just wonder if something like Thalia would be better though since we don't run a ton of non-creature spells and it can wrench up our opponents plans.
Thalia is a potential good idea, it got me thinking if something like trinisphere might be fun in the sideboard to ramp out against burn, jund, etc as all of our creatures are expensive and most all of their cards are less than or equal to 3 cmc.
I mean Heirach taps for U so it doesn't seem like it'd be that rough all things considered. It's not even a 4x that we are talking but a 1-2x
I'd go ahead and test it if I were you. Maybe I'm wrong and you'll have access to blue mana early enough.
Totally agree. I count 12 U sources in the 24 lands so even ignoring the Hierarch you still might be able to drop it on turn 2-3 (remember Cavern can tap for U as well.
From what I saw on the coverage, the blue splash helped immensely as well from tapping down blockers or potential attackers with drowner or to an example of a single negate that was a complete blowout and led to a game win for Pascal. I don't recall what match that was, but it was quite good and blue cards won the deck multiple games.
Counter magic also seems to have some nice synergy with Thought Knot Seer as you get a peek into their hand and some known information on where and how to use your counters.
I totally agree. Also getting full usage out of Heirarch is just absolutely peachy because of all the awkward amazing things this card does.
I completely forgot about that as well, I recall a board state with just two hierarchs in play followed by dropping a reality smasher the next turn. What's better than a hasty 5/5 trampler...a hasty 7/7 trampler of course! Hierarch allows a lot of our creatures such as reality smasher and thought knot to plow through opposing goyfs as well with the extra +1/+1.

Same here, pulling this in as another side deck as I have everything except for Caverns (fingers crossed for an eternal masters reprint...). The deck looked very solid on stream and I loved how streamlined and smooth the build looked.
