If anyone is interested in participating, we have a cross-community thing going on with the org/civfanatics, showcasing the playing skills of each community.
It promises to have a pretty high-quality level of play. 3 days/1 day phases for Days and Nights.
The important part is meeting new players and having fun.
That intersite mafia game sounds nice, but I don't think I can commit to such an fast-paced game right now due to my work. I'm kinda like Rhand, I have a week off and then I have an intensive 12h+ shifts for a week.
(I would love to spectate, though, so keep me updated.)
@ATPG: Er du norsk?
Jeg er fra USA. Jeg snakker ikke godt Norsk. But I knew a few words here and there. Moved here after FF was over so I'm still very much learning the language.
I think that'd be fantastic. We've run some cross-site mixers previously, with mafiascum, which were fun and well-received. We'd planned to follow up with some games that would allow a wider section of our playerbase to participate, but it seemed like the 'scum folks were less interested in organizing that, than the invitional format.
Hell, I'd be a fan of simply running some/all our site's games on MU simply for the sake of hijacking your glorious interface. I wouldn't care to lose our playerbase's distinctiveness and culture, but perhaps we could work something out where our MTGS players form the kernel of a longer-phase game culture on MU, and attract like-minded players into the fold. Worth considering.
I am from totalwar.Org, so as I like to say....
We are the .Org. Your culture will adapt to service us. You will be assimilated, resistance is futile. Join us, and we will bring you closer to perfection. Your species will continue, as part of us, and spread throughout the MafiaUniverse.
I'd be down for some cross community action. I've already joined another mafia site due to the championships with 24/48 hour Day phases and having a blast there.
It'd need to happen during this summer though.
Yep, should happen soon. I'm flexible on the dates.
I'd be down for cross-site stuff (MU is miraculously not blocked at work), and I'd be up for trying compromise games with, say, week long deadlines, which would be fast paced (for us), but not as totally crazy as 72-hour days.
I think you'd enjoy being paired up with the ultra-long phases (from our perspective) of Giraffe boards players, where they have week long day phases.
It would be rare, I think, to find many communities with players willing to go up to phases longer than this. But I'd certainly try!
I'd need like 5-8 players to be interested. Especially if they're folks from the FF game I was in, but I'll take whoever can commit to the other site and phase length and activity requirements.
I think it would be a great way to start pooling together people who are interested in playing on the multi-community site that is MafiaUniverse, while allowing for games which feature players you're more familiar with, and people who know and are familiar with the players who you are not familiar with.
Kind of like... a couple of formerly rival clans intermarrying and becoming one tribe. Except with fake murders.
Then, later on, you'll sign up for games on MU and there will be people there you've played with before. Who aren't MTGS people. Could be neat. Or, you can start playing games with an all or mostly MTGS crew on Mafia Universe and have invite-only games, if you want. I mean, you don't necessarily have to lose your identities and board culture over there, if you organize and host your own games and invite the people from your home board.
For the community-building exhibition games, I am looking for people who are okay with cultural differences and would be willing to act as diplomatically as possible toward the folks from another board culture. It's community-building as opposed to bashing and we want to keep the general tone of the game friendly, ofc.
I would like you guys to come play with us more. i've been busy and/or have had bad internets, but I'm going to organize some community-building meet-n-greet exhibition-style games.
The idea is to have games which feature lots of prominent players from just two communities. Say, MTGS, and another one. And we try to fill the game with just an equal amount of players from each community.
My idea would be to pair MTGS with the Civilization Fanatics and Totalwar.org crews. (Civ and Totalwar are basically my two home sites, and they play on each other's sites all the time. All the time. Basically one website at this point.)
Then we'd pair up some other communities, like the Giraffe/Straight Dope/Idle player group (basically one player base) with some folks from another community. And so on.
And the games would largely fit the setups / phase lengths you'd be more accustomed to. Well, as much as possible, anyway.
If you guys would be okay playing a game with like 3 day long day phases and 1 day long night phases, it would be much easier to pair up your community with another. Since it is so unusual to have the phase lengths you do.
Suggestions on setup would be welcome. Would anyone be interested? I could even get someone else to organize this particular match-up so I can play in it personally. What do you think?
I could even throw up an exhibition game featuring a list of MTGS peoples who want to play, so you wouldn't be completely lacking in meta knowledge on folks. Helps folks get used to a quicker pace game if it's really outside of their comfort zone, without it being a wholly unfamiliar experience. Let me know, there's talk of folks from my home site (not MU) doing an exhibition game featuring a lot of our old stalwarts. But the idea is a little silly if it's only featuring the totalwar.org / civilization fanatics center crew, since we already play with each other on our home sites.
The point would be to play with new peoples, while also showcasing our own talents.
Ultimately the entire point of MafiaUniverse is to bring the greater mafia playing community together. It need not mean only a sole representative from each site once a year. It could mean a dozen players from a site mingling with others from the great elsewhere. There's not exactly a big line forming in Standard Games, a new game is always right around the corner if people want to play one.
I think the key issue is finding someone who can cope with the comparatively insanely short days, since they'd need to be online an awful lot.
It's an extreme difference. When I played on here last year, I found it very very challenging to adapt to the different circumstances, and I'm used to 24 hour phases and week-long phases both.
You guys are on one extreme end, and this tournament is the other extreme. And for that extreme, it's also on the extreme edge of competitiveness and activity levels. I think it would be difficult to overstate the vast differences here between a game on here and a game in this tournament.
It would be comparable to say that the difference is as extreme as the difference between a regular forum mafia game and a game of mafia played over an instant messenger client or a video chat. The style and approach is going to be that great.
Candidate needs to be downright Borg-ian in their ability to assimilate and adapt. Both Iso and Sir Chris did well with adapting to the fast phases, at the very least.
Game 3 of season 2 definitely too short a showing for Iso. Would love to see him sent again.
And there are several other names I'd like to see. You want to have the time to invest, and you want to be able to cope with the clashing styles you'll meet. How well can you handle both adversity and diversity? Can you bluff people who don't know what your usual town tells are? Can you avoid being lynched by people who have no idea what your scum game is? Can you shoot the right people at night? Many skills are needed.
Or you could click buttons and hope for miracles, just like any other game.
I truly do enjoy watching how the iso functions. I will be up late many a night pushing that button for as long as it takes to give me satisfaction, and in the end, I feel like it would help me understand what's going on between us better.
That's so bad that's like a single entendre and I'm sorry I even wrote it, but I'm too lazy not to post this.
I can vouch for the sweetness of the site. Signed myself up the other day. Very slick design. The ISO button alone was game changing for me... it brought up the posts in CHRONOLOGICAL order! Not reverse.
Problem is that I doubt the pacing of the games is similar to what we have here. Not to mention I have grown (unfortunately at times) attached to the playerbase here on MTGS. So unless we did some sort of one-of game over there once in a while, I will be sticking here.
As a staff member (only unstaffed to play in the finale) I can say this:
I didn't design the site at all, but I looooooooooooooooooooooooooove the ISO function HER MER GERD
And the rest of the site functionality is indeed top notch
I have suggestions but I'll put them in a suggestion box at this point. Site truly is the best place to go right now that I can see. I'd love to steal a couple elements from other sites and add their distinctiveness to our own.
But we will also be hosting games with longer day and night periods for folks just like you.
In fact, I will be hosting a game with longer periods and I'd like to invite several of you folks there personally but if you guys think you can play and not skip phases or sub out I would welcome all.
It won't be a month per day or anything crazy like that just... manageable for your standards.
The important part is meeting new players and having fun.
Deadline for signing up ends in 48 hours.
That's a shame. You're among the most level-headed yet appropriately suspicious villagers I've ever come across.

And yeah, I love the MU board features.

Sorry about the mix-up.

Could just come and play a regular game on our site. There's one in sign-ups almost constantly and they fill pretty quickly.
I'd join if there were plenty of MTGS peeps
