I think that Fiend Hunter could pair nicely with Wasteland Strangler. It does kind of the same thing as Strangler while also feeding the other Stranglers at the same time. Maybe try a 2/2 split?
I have very high hopes for Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet but I havn't had the chance to play him yet. Seems great though, except for that our main removal is an exile-spell. But with a bit of black removal in the deck aswell it could be a beast.
I have a few thing to say about the deck. I'm not saying I'm right or anything, just some stuff I would be hesitant about if I were playing this deck.
First off, 4 Fetid Heath seems a bit risky as you also have four other lands that doesn't produce colored mana. Since you are running four tapped land as well, you only have eight sources of each color from which you can cast a turn one spell. I would definitly swap two Fetid Heath for two Isolated Chapel. I also think it might be a good idea to play at least one Temple of Silence since you're a bit low on one-drops. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth could also be a great card cause it makes your Ghost Quarters tap for black. I would probably remove two Plains for those two card. Lastly, if you have any good G/B lands, it could be a good idea to replace one or two swamps whith that land to help you cast Kitchen Finks.
Regarding the spells I think it's a bit greedy to play 4 Liliana of the Veil and 4 Kitchen Finks whith that mana base, but the G/B land idea would of course help there. Beyond that I would be hesitant to play Abyssal Persecutor without any sac outlet. Maybe swap one Liliana of the Veil and one Kitchen Finks for two Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim. That card seems awesome with Abyssal Persecutor. Finally I'd replace the Utter Ends for Dismember, Go for the Throat or even Smother. Utter End is too expensive in my opinion. It's gonna hurt flipping it to Dark Confidant and you might not even get to play it cause it can't be played until turn 4. Since you will be sacrificing your own lands you could easily be stuck on two or three land for a while. Also, you have to remember that Path to Exile is awful to play early if you don't have an Leonin Arbiter in play. It's much better later on. That's why I'd recommend playing the black 2-drop removal spells over Utter End.
I agree that Adaptive Automaton doesn't look like the right call, at least for my build. I think it would work amazingly IF it could pump BOTH Rat and Spirit tokens. But you have to choose one. And it dies to loads of different removal spells. And, as mentioned, my 3-drop slot is already full (at 8 cards.)
I am trying Leyline of the Void as my sideboard graveyard hate as a 3-of. I boarded it in for one match so far against a Grixis Twin build and despite having to hard cast it on T5 it definitely factored into the game, and it still gave my Grunt some breathing room for a few turns. I will report when I have more play experience.
Yeah, Adaptive Automaton is probably not at all the right choice. I'm just happy to see some out-of-the-box thinking. Feel like this deck is in a bit of rut.
I saw that Shasheen Soorani played a B/W Control deck I'm modern at SCG Open this weekend. Would love too see the decklist but I'm not sure he will place high enough for them to post it. Guess we can always hope.
Leyline seems great. Don't have any though... sad face. Runed halo naming Eidolon of the Great Revel is fine but very narrow. Chalice of the Void on 1 shut down half of their deck. That could be a thing. Chalice on 0 could be good against Affinity to, but you probably need to be on play and have it on your starting hand. Chalice on 1 might be good against Tron too, to counter all of their eggs.
I have not played that much against Affinity but Lingering Souls seems awesome against them. Also with Zealous Persecution, Stony Silence and maybe Disenchant in the sideboard game two and three couldn't be too hard.
Tron is probably harder. I have played that match up a lot and I feel it's maybe like 50/50. After sideboard I think we can tip the scales in our favor though. Stony Silence shuts down all the eggs and Oblivion Stone. I'm also thinking of maybe adding two Aven Mindcensor for this match up, which I think would be great agains Bloom Titan as well. The card that is the hardest to beat is Karn. I don't really know how to handle that dude.
I was just thinking the same thing! I'm playing another tournament on saturday and I need to update my sideboard.
I've been play testing against burn and it seems like a really hard match up. I always win if I get to play Kor Firewalker or Sorin, Solemn Visitor though. The problem with Firewalker is the double white. Right now I'm thinking of adding a Worship to the board for that match up. Think it could be quite good agains Merfolks too since they don't have a lot of removal.
Beyond Burn I feel Twin and Abzan are the two most importen deck to have a plan against.
Twin does seem beatable between all the cheap discard and removal but maybe play two Slaughter Pact between the main and the sideboard to be on the safe side, since it's Remand-proof.
Abzan could be tricky. Mirran Crusader might be good cause they usually only plays one or two copies of Path to Exile. All other sort of removal is black. Zealous Persecution is of course great in the Souls-mirror. The real problem is the graveyard. Rest in Peace would be awesome if it didn't also make our Lingering Souls a lot worse. It's also easily removable with Abrupt Decay. I suppose going up to three Relic of Progenitus could be a fine solution.
Oh, yeah. Not as surprising then The only thing I have changed since then is to switch out the singleton Darkblast for a fourth Liliana of the Veil. Not sure if it's right though. There are stil a lot of X/1's cause, you know, Lingering Souls. I have felt that I often draw too many colorless lands. Thinking about cutting Tectonic Edge for a Vault of the Archangel and one more fetch or shock.

Oh, that's an interesting idea! Let's get the gears grinding!
Liliana of the Veil will not be in MM2 since it won't contain cards from Innistrad. Fulminator Mage seems a lot more likely and even Dark Confidant could also see a second reprint.
