Dan could easily make the descent to the street, already having traveled half the distance by using the sloping roof. He could, however, find no obvious clues pointing out what direction his quarry had fled.
It was a lower roof and Dan made the jump easily. From the other roof he could see a smudge of soot on the opposite wall where Golt had presumably slid downwards.
That was definitely more promising, the scuff marks led to a matching pair on the opposite roof and a trail of soot leading down to the ground. No sign of the assailant, however.
The were long scuff marks near the west side of the roof, a collection of scratches near the south-east corner and what looked like a circle of blown soot near the eastern edge.
When he reached the roof Dan saw clear scuff marks in the dirt and soot atop the building. Someone had landed on the roof and then made off in... whatever direction they'd left in wasn't clear to him.
It was brittle, white clay obviously intended to be shattered. The shards formed the approximate shape of a plate on the floor, though shards seemed to have been scattered upwards.
