It was around this point in the conversation when they were interrupted by their host bursting through the front door of the farmhouse. He rushed up to Meera and embraced her.
Sem- What happened?
Falthor- Wolf attack. Apparently they're not normally spooked.
Farm Girl- I could have sworn I saw a flash of blue in the sky just before sunrise... but it was probably my imagination. Meera by the by. I assume you lot are here for the survey?
With everyone else focused on the wolf, Falthor moved closer to the wagon and it's scared occupant.
The summoned pesterance was enough to get the wolf to turn more fully to the side. The creature fully exposed its flank as it turned to bite at the small creature.
The wolf dodged under the jakari's cutlass, snarling and backing up slightly. The wolf seemed to be lagging slightly, Falthor's poison starting to take effect in the agitated beast.
The rock thudded against the wolf's side at around the same time a dart hit the creature in the rump. The beast turned towards the sources of the projectiles, snarling viciously.
Bursting through the door they were presented with the scene of a woman crouched inside Sem's wagon, kicking out at what appeared to be a massive wolf. The woman was mousey haired and bore more than a passing resemblance to their host. The wolf snarled as another kick stopped it from getting into the wagon.
Another shriek rang out, obviously from outside the farmhouse. The clarity of wakefulness allowed the group to hear more clearly that it was a female voice crying out in fear.
After a while, everyone had either found themselves a comfortable place to sleep or merely conked out in an awkward position. Some time later they were all awoken by a loud, piercing shriek.
It wasn't long before the group had managed to work their way through the entire cauldron. The combined effects of the weather, travel and the filling meal were starting to make the group sleepy. Falthor stretched out dramatically, pulling off his glasses and tucking them into his shirt.
Sem- What happened?
Falthor- Wolf attack. Apparently they're not normally spooked.
Sem- I suppose you want to look into it?
Meera- A couple, actually. They usually stick to the forest, though.
Falthor- Maybe something spooked them?
Meera- I guess there's a chance o' that.
Meera- Well, we best be heading back in then. I guess the survey man will want to keep you lot close.
Farm Girl- I'm fine. I was doing the morning rounds when I spotted that wolf headed for the wagon, usually they're easy to scare off.
Falthor- Something must have spooked it...
The summoned pesterance was enough to get the wolf to turn more fully to the side. The creature fully exposed its flank as it turned to bite at the small creature.
Falthor burst towards the front door.
Falthor- Bwuh? It's dawn... was that a rooster?
Falthor- Not planning on sl-*yawn*-eeping, brother?
