There didn't seem to be anything resembling an instruction manual for Maren to look at but there was a panel underneath the array of buttons that looked like it might pull away.
The oathbreaker of the group could see words inscribed on the buttons in a faint orange light. Cal, Cro, Avras, Taru, Gramu, Hal, Ineran, Garl, Kraj and Low.
They found that Rain had released the valve in the next room and continued into what seemed to be some sort of control room, the nadrask was stood in front of a bank of ten buttons and four levers, one of which appeared to have been recently pulled.
From what Rain could tell the four levers probably lined up with four rooms within the complex, the buttons he couldn't figure out, probably for keying in combinations. The lever Rain pulled corresponded with the room the group had just come from...
Every steam plate in the room released an extended burst, enough to fill the back half of the room with the boiling, noxious stuff.
Rain was able to gain composure but the feeling of sickness lingered beneath, fraying his nerves. The set up in the room behind the tanks was more of a control panel than a field of traps, four levers flanking a bank of ten buttons.
Rain's spluttering abates but the nadrask finds a sense of mild nausea and irritation replacing it. Heading towards the door, Rain saw that it swung open easily, revealing a room that seemed to be filled with hand sized pressure plates and levers.
Pulling the lever secreted near the door in the tank room did exactly what Maren had surmised. The door hissed and fell back onto a set of greased hinges as the room filled with very stagnant smelling steam, causing everyone in that room to cough and splutter as it irritated their lungs.
The far left pad bucked backwards at Maren in the same way the two on the front line had bucked forward. The rest of the pads on that line released bursts of steam. Maren could not reach the next line.

Back in the tank room, there was a small gap followed by four more distinct gurgles from the large tank.
Of the first row, three more seemed to be steam traps. The remaining two pads launched violently upwards when depressed, clearly angled towards the rest of the tiles.
Immediately after Rain asked the question the pad clicked under the pressure of Maren's staff, a burst of steam issued out from around the pad and up towards where a person would have been standing. The gathered group felt the heat of the steam from where they were standing. Another click and a gurgling noise followed when Maren lifted the staff off the pad.
Maren knew a pressure plate when he saw one, the numerous metal plates that tiled the area between themselves and the door were clearly triggers for some sort of mechanism or mechanisms.

The pad issued another hiss as it released a dangerous burst of steam.
In the other room, the larger tank gurgled again.
The group who headed back to the tank room found that one of the larger tanks, separate from the door, had a few air bubbles in it.
