Playing in these kind of metas with that kind of deck speed is enlightening. I'll probably reuse that knowledge and revisit superfriends later on. In the meantime, I'm keeping an eye on this thread.
The only way for superfriends deck to be able to compete with such decks or combo decks like prossh or hermit druid or zur, is to include hate cards. Even if you add cards like stanglehold, trinisphere etc., I do not believe that superfriends can compete in such meta. This is my opinion...
While there are deff expensive cards in here grim monolith is way pricey in foil. Maybe something to save up for. Plus I would have to be able to play blue suns zenith multiple times to win with it. At the point that I'm generating infi mana I can do infi chain veils or just loop d tutor seasons past and a time walk to kill the table.
I know about grim....it is a bit expensive...lucky to pick it up 2 years ago. You are correct with the infinite mana. Austere command is a multi tool and should be in your deck in my opinion.
Hey there guys long time follower as I also run the super friends. My list is a little different since I have an only foils stipulation for my deck. Been running this for about 4-5 years at this point.
Take a look and please offer suggestions maybe or ask questions about odd card choices.
Hehe...nice pimped out deck man. My only suggestion would be since you run tez and rings, to use a basalt monolith and instead of sphinx revelation a blue sun's zenith that makes it for you possible to deck out your opponents even on a single turn. Since basalt does not exist in foil you can use grim monolith instead. You might also need some more mass removal...you can find lots of choices in this thread... Enjoy your sparkling deck...
I like the Oaths, both serve decent purposes and provide tokens. That's up to you, though.
Even in multiplayer I think Sorin is really good, but again that's up to you.
I can definitely see Sarkhan being pretty weak on an empty board, though.
You can find in the below link my take on the token theme. Please note that I have moved on the sideboard cards I still consider including the ones I did not believe in, from your draft. I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions that you(and whoever took the time to view the list) might have. https://deckstats.net/decks/29540/728430-sliver-queen-superfriends-toke
The two oaths you put in, do they worth the spot?
You have included Sorin Markov in the list, is it good enough for multiplayer?
I also believe that Sarkhan Vol on empty board is rather bad. I would not put it on the list.
I think superfriends decks are either best fit as a control deck (as my deck runs) or a token themed deck. I know I've mentioned I would put together a list, but being busy and a lack of interest is sort of the reason why. If there's interest, I can definitely put something together, because I've had some free time.
Please do put something together if you have the time.
As for creatures, I would not put any in this deck, just to take advantage of the fact that the deck does not have any by making enemy spot/mass removal irrelevant.
In addition, to support the token version, tokens provide blockers, that can extend the life of your planeswalker(s) for a couple of turns if needed.
Do you think it would be better to slightly shift the focus of the deck in this case, adding cards like Narset, Enlightened Master , or just keep the same theme, but with budget replacements?
You can go the tokens direction. Trav has mentioned in a previous post of mine that he will have two versions of the deck but he has not found the time I guess. I could post you my list but is rather outdated. Ring can you give infinite mana for a good old blue sun zenith, and you get to shuffle it in your deck as well. For the rest evaluations I agree with you.
I think there is another possible version of the deck, for 1vs1, where Sorin Markov can shine.
Also, do you like me reviewing the whole set, or just the cards I'm adding? Would it be better if I just did in depth reviews on cards that are added to the deck, per update?
Hey Trav, my opinion is that you should review the cards that are eligible for the deck not only your version but any card that could work in this commander deck "theme".
Overall I like the changes. The only one I disagree with is Skyshroud Claim over Three Visits but I understand the price argument.
I haven't won in quite a while with this deck in my meta. I play my control package and then I die. I still enjoy playing it but its getting harder and harder
I am still using the token theme, and works fine for me (I have not updated it yet though with Shadows release). Have you tried that version in your meta?
I don't even think it would be occasionally. You have library, sensei's, jace, inquisition, vampiric tutor, oath of jace etc. to stack a miracle to the top, and way like sphinx/sensei's to draw it on your opponents turn, potentially squeezing in an extra turn without spending the mana on either your turns, which could make for massive impact. You can also give another player an extra turn on the fly, which in some cases could win a game if someones getting out of hand.
I'll be trying it, I think its well worth sneaking in somewhere. Similarly terminus seems immensely strong.
I have tried it and it works perfectly..I have also recommended it a few posts before...along with the use of mystical tutor.
I'm basically building this(I have a foiled out cube so I already have most of the cards, and picked up a few of the cheap cards today).
What would you replace the following with:
The dual lands(I have proxies for them but wondering if there are serviceable alternatives)
Imp seal(see above)
the tabernacle(no sexy proxy, and expensive)
the abyss(see above)
temporal manip/capture(see above)
Hey there chaoserver! Here's my suggestions:
- Dual lands substituted with the Check lands. Maybe consider using the Battlelands for the allied ones.
- Imperial seal I would sub with Enlightened Tutor
- The Tabernacle of Pendrell Vale doesn't have a very accurate replacement. I would say another utility land, such as Arcane Lighthouse.
- The Abyss is another one without any good substitution. Maybe something like Awakening Zone for more chump blockers or Tainted Æther . Do you run Humility and Lethal Vapors?
- For Temporal Manipulation and Capture of Jingzhou I definitely say consider Walk the Aeons and Savor the Moment or Temporal Mastery
I agree with Trav's approach. An additional thought (that I already have in my deck) is to use Mystical Tutor with Temporal Mastery and I also substituted a mass removal with Terminus ,worked great for me.
