Well, I'm technically available to review anything, but (as certain people know) I'm fairly unreliable these days to get back to you in any kind of timely fashion.

Ambush Krotiq makes me laugh so much. I keep rereading the card and it keeps not having Flash. In what sense is this an ambush again? I just have visions of this huge Krotiq poorly concealed in some bushes, feeling slightly sad that his carefully planned ambushes never seem to work.
In fairness to Iso, the initial set-up he sent me was a bit was more complex than the last one I saw, due in part to his making some adjustments because of comments I gave to him.
I was also not of the opinion that a set up had to be of some undefined level of complexity before it "qualified" as a Specialty game. While the game might tilt towards the "Normal" end of the Specialty -> Normal Spectrum, I had no real issues with this, and I've also seem plenty of games going the other way.

And with that, I believe it is time for me to gracefully exit.
I have not been pulling my weight on the Council for some time, due to being generally busy, which has also affected my ability to play. I'm not "retiring" and I'm not leaving the forum or anything, but I am stepping down from any kind of official responsibility. I am certain the new people will do an excellent job of maintaining the forum.
Still availiable for reviewing games and such, just know that I'm not always prompt when getting back to people
It's been an honor.

People forget (or weren't around) that back in the day, we didn't run as many games and games would fill up almost immediately, and the same people would be signing up for every game. That's not terrible in and of itself, but it caused some frustration for people who kept getting left on the outside. Sometimes there would be weeks (or longer) that would go by between new game sign-ups. That was one reason for the game cap.
And there definitely is an affect on play when someone is playing across multiple games. I know it's perfectly possible to participate in more than 3 at a time, and have done it myself (again, back in the day) but I still think the limit as far as games on this site is a reasonable one. Exceptions can certainly be made - for replacements, or when a game is having trouble filling - but 3 does not seems especially limiting.
Gimmicks are kind of on the Honor system. We obviously can't enforce that, but you shouldn't be creating gimmicks just to get into additional games. You can always go play on Mafiascum or something if you still need that fix.

I think letting the Mini queue go to a rolling sign-up is a reasonable direction to head, and see how that works before doing it with the larger games.

Perhaps we could start accepting volunteers to be reviewers. I'd think you'd just need to show that you have run, maybe...2?...games that weren't Basics and went over reasonably well. As in, people weren't complaining about how terrible the game was designed/balanced at the end of it.

There is no way we are going to implement a system where we, as the Counsel, decide every game that gets to run based on what we like the best. Yes, first in first out means a certain randomness in the quality of the game, but I don't think we are actually having issues with lots of poorly run/desiged games flooding the system, are we?
I also know I would hate to sit in judgement over what game "deserves" to be run next. We have to deal with this a little just with the fast track game, but doing it for every game would be a nightmare. I like to think of us as a Democracy, and not a Dictatorship around here.

I am out of town with spoty internet and just seeing this now. I'll just echo Raf in saying that when one has an issue with another player, rather than coming here and requesting a ban/probation for said player, it's almost always better to PM someone on the Counsel your grievance first. We can then look into it and take whatever actions seem appropriate, hopefully without disrupting the whole forum. That's kind of the whole point.

Ah, the good old days. I had a (potential) Traitor in my first game, (LoTR) which was almost 100% for flavor purposes, certainly not "balance" where I did not exactly know what i was doing. Difference there was that it was the Traitor himself who could essentially decide whether or not he wanted to flip, and I tried to put a serious hint in the opening post warning about the "corrupting" power of the ring.
I wouldn't go quite so far as to put an outright ban on the role (though I really dislike it now in principle). I think the Town needs some way to know it's a possibility up front though and/or some way to combat it.
The 3 mislynch thing is kind of a minimum balance requirement the way I see it now. You try to design so that if everything goes horribly wrong for the Town, it still takes ~3 mislynches. But that also requires things like mis-vigs. Town causing the death of other town. If it's just 3 mislynch/lose in a large game and the Town didn't cause any other town deaths, then that would mean the scum had some completely out of whack killing capacity.

I saw the Mostly Mute game on Scum and thought it was cute. I'm not against the concept.
Perhaps it's something that could be better run in the "Quick Reply Games" subforum, if the short nature of the posts is what's at issue.

For those who are arguing that Naka's activities outside of Mafia should not be used as a basis to blacklist him, let me say that, in principle, I agree with you. My own vote was based on his Mafia behavior, and not whether he is or is not a banned ripper on another site (though, admittedly, that doesn't do him any favors).
His repeated rules violations have resulted in multiple mod-killings. In another game, he PMed a living player after he was dead in order to mislead them (a banworthy offense all by itself in my opinion). He was not banned then, but instead placed on probation. Then there was his play in Annorax's game, which also caused a great deal of disruption for no purpose that I can detect other than his own amusement.
I also strongly disapprove of lying about ones "real world" circumstances as an in game excuse of behavior, though this is not something we can normally verify or something that, in and of itself, would merit an outright ban. In Naka's case, however, it's just one more thing.
This is a social game we are playing. We all want to have fun, but there are rules and there is ettiquette. This is to try and ensure that everyone has a good experience, not just you. You have to respect your fellow players and the Mods who put in a LOT of work and often have to wait years to host a game.
Naka's play has not been healthy for the game.

When I read the Forum announcement I was confused. I had trouble believeing that we were now being told that using bold Red to designate Mafia was illegal - something that had been done since virtually the beginning of this forum's existance. I asked for a clarification and apparently that was exactly what the announcement meant.
Obviously I agree that this is not a problem issue in this forum and that using Bold Red here in the manner that we have does not cause problems in other areas of the forum, and I think we have five years of history to back-up those assesments. I would much rather be allowed to continue on as we have (without issue) than change a longstanding tradition/convention because someone decided it was time to enfore a rule. A rule that I'm not even sure existed way back when.

When I see a game listed as being hosted by two people, I am going to assume it means both people are running the game. I am not going to assume that one of those two people is the "real" host, or the "primary" host and the other one is some kind of hanger on.
If one of those people subsequently goes awol, I have no issues at all about letting the other one run the game, assuming they are ready and willing.
I'll note that Niv was fully aware that the time for this game to run was here. He acknowledged as much himself in the hosting thread, saying he'd have the sign-ups in a day or two. Four days later, we had nothing. Joboman contacted me to ask if he could go ahead with the sign-ups, and I said sure. I knew it would be several more days still until it would be time for any game to run. Joboman also said he had the complete set-up, just not finished role PMs.
Joboman expressed that he was having trouble contacting Niv. I sent Niv a PM myself, which was never picked up, even though his profile indicated that Niv was online since that time. And despite being online (at least twice) since the sign-up thread was posted, Niv said nothing.
It's very easy to make accomodations for people who run into real life situations - if that's what this is - but not so much when they don't inform us about them. Niv gave no hints whatsoever that I am aware of that there would be any problems for him getting the game started. I still have no idea what is up with him and no idea when he's coming back, if ever. I don't see where anyone, Niv included, has a reason to complain about the way it's being handled.
