I'm in agreement with the Counterflux theme being the full title.
Oh, look, I'm back-- to tell you I'm going to be away, since I'm moving.
Going to need boxes. Or teleportals. Whatever is easier.
Seems like the Counterflux title is pretty popular. I'll put the new thread on the top of my to do list since it seems like we're as close to a consensus as we can be with so few active members.
If you do go with Teleportals, make sure there aren't any Judge's Familiars or Cursecatchers around before overloading it.
Entered the CC with Super Mirrodin Block and M11. Wish me luck!
Edit: Sign ups for the BYOS event were extended to tonight at 8 pm, so there's still time to register!
The Counterflux thread title is pretty good, though it's not my favorite. I'd be fine with it if the majority is in favor.
Sure. I have historically had good luck with Faeries in this particular CC, though I'm sure you could also do well with your...deck style...of choice.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to use Facebook in China (I can't as of now), so feel free to PM me a QT link so we can also include other Clan members in deck construction.
Great idea. I'll be PMing you a link to it ASAP.
Anyone who wants in, PM me and I'll reply with the link.
Well, that's easy. RCG and RTR blocks but the core set... Hm... either Magic 2010 or 2011, due to the inclusion of Lightning Bolt.
Did you mean RGD (Ravnica/Guildpact/Dissension)? I'm not sure choosing a block with only one set is going to give us the best shot at this, as much as I like some of the cards in RTR.
Edit: Due to China blocking QT, it seems like the most effective way to communicate with everyone interested is a group email kinda thing.
That is actually an awesome title, Clem. Personally, I don't get why the overload cost is even there, but I do enjoy the art! And it's an Izzet card.
Huh, I was just suggesting we use it as a placeholder, but if its popular enough to just be our new title, I guess that works too. Hopefully a few more members chime in soon so we can move forward with a consensus (This includes you too, new guys who aren't listed on page 1, post 1).
I'd like to bring this to everyone's attention. This kind of contest is very relevant to my /interests, so I'll probably be entering. Is anyone else up for the challenge? It'd be cool to collaborate on decks.
I had about five thread titles a few pages back, Clem.
I have a vicious aggro deck running Delver, Guttersnipe and half-burn half-disruption spells. It works well, until people start killing the guttersnipes...
Updated my previous post with the relevant info.
I recently read an article about a Guttersnipe/Burning Vengeance deck that would have been a lot more interesting to me if it didn't look like the new American Flash deck with a bunch of bad cards. It might be worth checking out though, if you're working with similar cards.
Its kind of rough to be so reliant on several X/2s to get damage in right now with the resurgence of Zombies causing players to start packing playsets of Pillars and other spot removal spells.
hello guys so do i join i didnt see my name in test subject session
That's because I currently don't have control over the first post and the user who does is no longer regularly able to check this thread. Once we get settled on a new title, the updated thread will be posted with a Clan roster that's a little more accurate.
Alternatively, I could go ahead and make the new thread now and just call it, "[The Izzet] Are In A State of (Counter)Flux" until we get settled onto a final name for the thread. This may be the best course of action based on recent activity levels.
Hey everyone, its been a while. Lost access to non-phone sources of internet for the past few days due to my laptop dying. Borrowing a computer now.
How has everyone been doing in their Magical endeavors? I recently decided to start playing in tourneys at my local game store again after a hiatus caused by lack of funds/reason to play in 1x multiplier events. Once I found out I was 50ish seasonal points away from 2 byes thanks to getting 12th at the 5k my friends and I went to Montreal for last weekend, I figured now would be a good time to get back into the local scene.
The first event was an RTR draft that I 1-3'd despite having pack rat. Misread signals caused me to draft a deck of questionable playability and I ended up just shuffling up 39 swamps and my pack rat. Sadly I did not find it more than once a match.
Though my bad luck ended immediately afterwards. I 6-0'd FNM with the same RDW list I played in Montreal with a minor sb adjustment and then 3-0'd the 8 person Modern GPT today. So now instead of trying to get to my second bye for Toronto, I'm looking to lock up 3 byes for next season with a good run in a couple of weeks. Still not sure what I'm playing at the GP yet though I did like the UW control deck I ran today.
I've been expecting the Big Baddie to make an appearance in the third set ever since he showed up in M13, but I somehow didn't make that connection (probably because of the way the block's been so Firemind-centric). Nice one!
I think it was "[The Izzet]: You Mirror-Mad, Bro?"
I'm still a fan of "[The Izzet] Never Left Ravnica" but any references to Dragon's Maze or the Interlocus are fair game!
/support
As always, let me know if you need help getting transitioned.
Too bad we took so long to get a new thread. Mirror Mad Phantasm is slightly less relevant now that we aren't drafting ISD. Although it is currently half the wincon in a super janky combo deck.
I'll try and get it set up soon, but my current computer constraints may interfere. I'll do my best though.
Anyways! What do you guys think about GTC so far? I'm pretty down on Aurelia as an EDH general... that would make 3 white decks for me, though
I'm liking the legendary creatures. Enter the Infinite seems like a faster Petals of Insight for Legacy Omni-Tell and just broken in EDH (but what 10+ cc non-worldspine word card isn't?). Aurelia's also my pick for new general, though it would only be my second white deck and my third red one, heh. Hoping Gruul and/or Boros get some ridiculous burn spells for my mono red deck. Right now the best burn spell is strictly worse than Incinerate and it hurts.
Dragon's maze is going to be izzet-based, if the name is any hint!
I feel its more likely a different dragon's maze being referenced in the set's name.
@Neon_Lights: I'd cut the Cackling Counterparts, 1 Laboratory Maniac, 1 Thunderous Wrath, and 1 Increasing Confusion for 2 Searing Spear and 4 Pillar of Flame. You need ways to interact with creatures that cost less than 5 mana to compete in standard. Counterpart is pretty underwhelming unless you've actually succeeded in decking yourself and use it to save a Maniac from a kill spell. In which case a counter spell does the same thing while being less narrow. It also does not kill any legendary creatures.
I'd add counterspells like Dissipate to the sb to replace the Pillars.
Edit: We should've started thinking about new thread names about 100 posts ago.....
I still like AI's suggestion from an eternity ago. It had something to do with Mirror Mad Phantasm but I don't recall it exactly.
Edit Edit: Oh, I guess that's cuz we need a leader or something. I can't promise a sudden increase in activity, but I'm willing to sacrifice a few hours of my life to do the dirty work of getting us an up to date clan roster/new thread just to get the ball rolling in the right direction. Which would be forward, instead of stationary, like it is right now. Oooh, thread idea. [The Izzet] Still Ballin'.
No, it has almost nothing to do with Mtg. Yes, 2pac is my favourite rapper.
Moving back home to Vermont soon! Also just did a cube draft and went Izzet with white for Stoneforge+other sick white cards. Called the Skybreaker several times and he picked up the phone every time.
Thanks! I didn't do anything too crazy Tuesday. Just went to my favourite local bar with a bunch of my friends I've known for like, 8+ years for dinner and a few drinks.
My big plan is going to be attending the GP in Boston/Worcester starting tomorrow. I can't wait to finally play again!
Does the format get boring because of this? That's definitely one reason I hate Standard (sorry standard players :P) - because everyone is just playing with the same few decks. Or is there more diversity in Legacy decks? I've seen that there are a couple major decks that get played a lot, but is it possible to do well with a non-elite deck?
Yeah, its way more diverse than standard. You can definitely do well playing something that's not mainstream, too. Burn won 2-3 Legacy Opens in a row this year, which should say a lot about the format. (Mostly that its awesome.)
AI hit it pretty much on the nose, though I'd say turn two wins, even in Legacy is kinda rare.
Also, Happy birthday Clem!!! Hope you had a lot of fun!
Not frequent, but it did happen to me twice in a row the last time I played Legacy for the GP in Indy. Not a whole lot RDW can do when Belcher makes 12 goblin tokens on turn 1.
And thanks! It was definitely fun. Hopefully that continues in a few days in Boston/Worcester for the GP.
Sure, I get back into this, and you all bail, lol.
In all seriousness, I hope you get everything figured out irl (i.e. what really matters) and until then, we'll look forward to having you back soon.
Thanks! I lost in the top eight the next week after switching decks and not going undefeated in the swiss. Though that had more to do with the fact that I'm way too nice and removed my own Celestial Purges after my opponent said he was done resolving Surgical Extraction while both copies were still sitting in my graveyard.
Its getting there, slowly. I may have messed up by waiting to start this kind of project several days before I'm only in town for like, 10 days or less the entire month.
I'm jelly on that D3. I can't get it on this computer because the graphics card isn't good enough (or something). And about ready to take a break from MtG because a recent game left a sour taste in my mouth. I won, but my opponent threw a hissy fit, and that bothers me... a lot.
I've really been looking for an excuse to use this image since I found it.
I'd suggest not testing Magic on Cockatrice against strangers, ragequits galore ;D
Things are going well - top 4'd Sunday's Legacy event, and next weekend there's a GPT on the calendar! Also intending to attend more PTQs in October/November.
That's why I play with rl friends exclusively lol.
Congrats on the solid finishes! What'd you play in Legacy?
Hope you have better luck PTQ'ing than I did last weekend. Pro-tip: Don't make deck building decisions at 3 am the night before the event. It only ends poorly.
And that's how they get you :uhh:. But no, really eat the cookie, AI wouldn't hurt you.
* Psi hugs AI.
Also, I was looking back at my first ever posts in the Izzet back in 2008 (to see if I was ever given a cookie obviously), and found these gems and decided to quote them for old times sake...Needless to say they made me laugh back then and did just now again
..This is why I always have and will always love Ravus:
Hey look, I did get a cookie :D:
Anyways enough of that old stuff, How is everyone in the Izzet doing?
* Psi waves to everyone.
* Clem misses Ravus
I think the last time I texted him was last year when I was drunk at Dragon*Con in ATL. Good times, can't wait for round 2 this year hopefully with less almost-pannick attacks from being surrounded by more people than when I'm at Gencon.
I'm doing well, I'm heading out to the highway in too many hours to begin that crazy adventure I mentioned earlier. Starting with Chicago Comic Con this weekend. After that I have 2 days off before Gencon. I'm leaving from Gencon to the airport for my flight back home to Vermont for my birthday/GP BostonWorcester that weekend, which will be my first GP as a player since the disaster known as GP Minneapolis happend in May. Then I actually work a four day week before heading to Atlanta for Dragon*Con for the weekend. Looking forward to wild nights and hot and crazy days this month.
Ok, that's better. Got it out of my system. I liked them both. Made a double feature of them on Thursday night.
Also, I've been playing a RUG Ramp list with Tamiyo, the Moon Sage and Temporal Mastery. I. Love. It. Soooooo much stronger than Delver, which had been bugging the hell out of me for as long as I tried to run it.
Spider-man was awesome (dare I say, amazing), but unfortunately, due to circumstances foreseen by my friend and ignored by me until they cost me way too much money, I have not seen the new Batman movie.
Saw Gerard Fabiano's article, deck looks like fun. I miss casting Frost Titan. I'd give it a shot for the PTQ/1k this weekend if I wasn't so addicted to flipping insects. Also not owning any of the good blue cards Tamiyo's would be a minor setback lol.
---------------------------
Like Artifice, I will also not be on as much (not that I have been recently) since I'm making an attempt to limit my time online until I get everything in the "real" world where I want it to be. So I won't be around that often any more.
Well, the prerelease thing for RTR 's this box full of stuff and there's different ones for each guild. You have to pick what Guild you want to rep. Inside there's a spindown, a guld-centric promo card (you can actually use in your deck), a guild booster, some other things.
Obviously based on the UG decks that Gerry T and Matt Costa wrote about and a little bit of the UR one Todd Anderson featured as well. This list is way less janky than what I ran at FNM since its got more Thought Scours and less Ancestral Visions.
Yup, new thread is up.
Mana Drain is definitely a fun card. I've got a beat up 1 I won at a GPT that I run in my Jenara deck.

The #1 reason for us not to pick Alpha is because it does not contain our dual land.
Beta sounds way better. Too bad we're using the Legacy banned list among others.

Vote: Look At My Maze, My Maze is Amazing
This title has the sufficient amount of puns in it to get my approval.
[The Izzet] heard you like blocks in your mazes, so we put a maze in your block... Wait, what?
[The Izzet] are leaving you all behind

Based on the price of the Helvault dice, I'd guess around $4-$5 per die.
Good luck! And what AI said!
So I lost in the top eight of FNM to the person I beat in round one of the swiss. Again.

kk, will post list when I have to stand up and go to the living space of my apt.

4 Vapor Snag
4 Thought Scour
2 Gut Shot

4 Snapcaster Mage
4 Quirion Dryad

1 Turn to Frog
3 Talrand Sky Summoner
1 Rancor

Izzet more promos like the Helvault? (Sorry, had to!)
Also, does anyone know what exactly a standard Helvault contained and what a Premium one contained? I needed to figure that out like, yesterday.
Edit Edit: Anyone know of any cheeses that are 100% meat free? I'm looking for something that's not soy based, please.
