I just can't imagine metal caravan being a common. I guess maybe if the set is chock full of non basic lands? Then you're still generating colourless mana on your draw step and other weird moments of the game. I guess thats fine, but people are going to be seeing a lot of this card at common.
You probably want the wording "Whenever a creature dealt damage by shady merchant this turn dies..." I guess you'll get one activation out of it blocking so that card seems pretty strong.

These feel wrong to me. Shady merchant doesn't explain when the trigger happens properly and metal caravan is very expensive for a mana source, would seem to escalate in a really unreasonable way for a common card and creates colourless mana at incredibly inopportune times.

Actually I think of it a lot more like a more flavorful flashback that is more conditional, but also has slight upside. I think it'll have a completely different feel in a set with a lot of it. The reveal from hand bit was also a bit of a weird part of arcane anyway! Cultivating a good hand is something that costs a lot, and it tends to be pretty weird and costly to interact consistently with things in hand, where as the graveyard has become a resource that is much more of an afterthought to interact with. : )

My Crusading friend:
Actually I think of it a lot more like a more flavorful flashback that is more conditional, but also has slight upside. I think it'll have a completely different feel in a set with a lot of it. The reveal from hand bit was also a bit of a weird part of arcane anyway! Cultivating a good hand is something that costs a lot, and it tends to be pretty weird and costly to interact consistently with things in hand, where as the graveyard has become a resource that is much more of an afterthought to interact with. : )
