I tried updating the file manually, but every time I try and re-download the file, the number of cards it shows in the database varies. I think the problem may be my computer, not cockatrice.
Odd. When you updating manually are you trying to edit the xml file yourself or simply downloading a premade xml?
If you look at the first picture, it shows a deck. And Brainstorm, Wild Mongrel, Captured Sunlight, Forests, and Terramorphic Expanses are all under the section called "cards". Not under the usual subcategories of instant, sorcery, creature, and land (I downloaded the Pauper Bant Sunlight list I posted on here, so that's how Cockatrice was able to display the card names).
The oracle seems to be working properly, but not all the cards show up in the database. Every time I update Oracle and type in Brain into the search box, nothing shows up.
I am checking all the boxes except for the original planechase, the Un-sets, FTV's, and Vanguard.
Not sure exactly why its not working properly for you. I just double checked the .xml file created by the oracle tool once complete and it shows the creature sub type for the "Wild Mongrel" as well as searching for the "Brain" and see the following in the deck editor:
Best thing I can say is to make sure you close the client, run the oracle tool, allow it to properly finish. Then reopen the client and edit your deck's. You may consider making sure that the path to the new card database is correctly inputed into the preferences page as many have changed it trying too manually update the database. Your other option would be to download a complete .xml and point your client to it.
From the two screenshots you posted the oracle tool looks like its operating correctly. For starters I see that you dont have all the set boxes checked while downloading. Second off, the first image showing the version number and the deck list, not certain what that is showing other than the version?
What sets is the oracle tool not downloading exactly?
Edit:
If you're looking for M14 card download information it would be listed under the 2013 set labeled "Magic 2014 Core Set" and not at the bottom of the list under "Modern Masters".
Re-Edit:
The sets.xml file has been updated to put the Modern Masters in the correct alphabetical order like it should have in the first place.
So I got the new version and ran Oracle, but Oracle (for some sets) said 0 cards imported. Now back to updating it manually. My computer can't run 7.zip for some reason and now I need an .xml file that covers all the sets up to date.
Help?
Any unzip utility should be able to uncompress the .zip file available on the woogerworks site. 7zip was simply an opensource easy to use application used in the how-to documentation.
also one thing to note about the oracle tool. wizards change the URL syntax of the gatherer site about the time the quoted post was made. The changed caused the oracle tool to stop functioning properly but was fixed by updating the sets.xml file on the woogerworks site. If you have the updated oracle tool try redownloading the sets information and give it a go again.
Having trouble, i'm using the woogerworks server, i'm attempting to update oracle but i'm having difficulties being they don't just tell you the download set info link or anything like that so with that said it'd be extremely helpful for someone to post a how to or inform me on how to do that. thanks
I tested it on the beta version and worked fine when on the desktop. Keep in mind it was the beta.

Try using the URL listed for the cockatrice server on the main woogerworks site. Its cockatrice.woogerworks.com
Simply using woogerworks.com will not work.

This is not exactly true. Please see the following article:
