its not worth it. 2 damage is not very relevant, we still need a big beater to end the game, but the second red can be problematic. also with blood moon you'll want to kill mostly basics.
i'm playing 3 sweepers main (anger+2 bonfires), 2 sb(angers). also sweltering suns seems maindeckable instead of anger, but i haven't any.
without them 1st game against go-wide decks is bad, and even if you win the second one, third game will be on the draw, and sometimes in my opinion we are too slow for it. so i prefer to have a chances in game 1 in cost of having dead draws g1 against some other decks
ug infect is not good for us in my expirience, as well as mono-colored aggro decks. ad nauseum suspend 2+ lotus blooms in turn 1 is almost gg. affinity doesn't care that much about LD with opals, drums and darksteel lands.
hey guys, i'd also want to share a bit of FNM results. that was 4th FNM i participated in with Ponza, all of them ended with 2:1 results.
yesterday i did lose to UG Infect (2:1, first game was awful, have to mull to 4 second time in my life), and then win (2:1) with monoblack Infect, and finally win against Ad Nauseum (2:0).
feel a bit unlucky (lose all the dice throws).
here is the decklist
there was funny last game against Ad Nauseum. an opponent started with hilarious hand against LD (2 lotus bloom suspended turn 1, ad nauseum + angel's grace in hand, and no lands at all!). but.. then i was very lucky to play turn 2 trinisphere. can't describe, what effect it causes, its ended with 10-min google search about iteraction of suspend with trinisphere. so, finally the game didn't last long after that. i feel, the deck is so fun to play with and seems to be quite competitive (i think i have won much better players than me with it several times). still, i usually hope to avoid affinity/UG infect/monored opponents decks at the tournament.
guys, isn't maindeck split between moon and trinisphere will be better than 4 moons in main? there are so many many agro and combo decks in my meta, including some number of burn and affinity. and even when the moon is good, the second and so on are redundant after installing first one.
i believe, living end will have to pay 3+3 for combo with trinisphere(which is hard when playing with us), ad nauseum will have to pay 3 for lotus bloom after suspend, pact of negation, angel's grace and spoils of the vault. storm can't combo with trini on the field(correct me if i wrong), and if you will be able to keep any opponent on two lands (most likely if you are on the play) - trinisphere should win the game in most cases.
but if someone will side in enchantment/art hate against us (for sprawls/moons), trinisphere may also suffer from it.
sorry, list was incomplete, i probably did make a mistake while copying. fixed. i already have 2 Primal Command, and they are key cards that wins games to me in some of the matchups.
i use Chandra as advantage pw, Nissa looks pretty good but 5-cmc.. should i take out one of the goblins for her (for example)?
and, sadly, i didn't have a chance yet to try Hazoret, never seen it during all the tournament.
so the birds are essential to have a good chance to t2 moon/rain? i did mulliganed a lot, but mostly it was one-landers, not the elf/sprawl absence.
Great news to hear. Can you post your deck? I have now been running with 2 command as well as i took out an inferno titan for it because i feel i can fetch them with the command a lot of the time.
the list is a bit on a budget, so only 2 moons(molten rains used instead) and also manabase is bad, i haven't get my foothills yet.
and i'm not sure what to use instead bonfire(don't like it at all) and communes(it's a filler, i just don't know what to use instead. they are fine, but 2 cmc looks weird in our deck and it's often quite slow play). our meta is only aggro, combo and 1-2 tron decks.
played at small FNM tournament, i very like the deck so far. played against affinity (2:0), weird RDW with copters and madness cards(0:2) and naya zoo (2:1). before that played with living end (2:0) and ad nauseum (1:2).
i'm also playing without the birds, because i found that in my experience problem "cannot draw into finisher in the mid-lategame" was more relevant than "haven't any 1-drops in start hand". still, there was a lot of mulligans due to onelanders, but i'm not sure that birds are solving that issue.
i'm very impressed with primal command, played 2-of, and every time i draw it - it leads to stabilization + fast game finishing (more often with stormbreath dragon, than inferno titan).
guys, how do you think, does madcap package worth it? is it better to have it in the sideboard against decks that cannot interact with it (combo/infect is what come to my mind)?
edit: obviously infect is not the case, I was wrong
but do we want to play 6-cmc card to clean topdecks? even if it make 5-6 damage to an opponent the cost of it will be milling one of our threats we may draw next turns.
and all our high-cmc cards serves a purpose. thragtusk, dwellers and stormbreath dragon will quickly finish the game or will help us to stabilize.
and also guys, what about primeval titan, is it worth it?
why do you guys think Combustible Gearhulk is worth trying? i believe typical play will be gearhulk -> land, stone rain, arbor elf to graveyard, 4 to the opponent. and we have 6/6 guy with no abilities now. it seems quite bad comparing with Inferno Titan, which can clean field and attacks on 10+ if alone on the field
Madcap is nothing like Baloth. Take a look at the sequencing again. If you play Baloth, you gain some life. If they path it, you're up a land too. If you madcap into Emperion and it's your 20th card then your oppo waits for you to put the Madcap damage on the stack and paths the Emperion in response. Then you feel sad and side them out for the rest of your games.
please correct me if i'm wrong, but life loss from madcap is the part of spell's effect, so there's no moment opponent can kill emperion before the damage is applied. and damage on stack doesn't exists in magic for years.
