Hey there everyone. It's been like a million years, but I've actually gotten some time to open up for MTG again. I made some changes to my RUG Loam deck and took it to second place of ~20 people this past weekend. How's Shadow of the Grave been working for everyone? It looks sweet. Has any one tested Tasigur, the Golden Fang out at all? He seems decent as an efficient threat with how quickly we bin things, not to mention EoT recursion with his ability.
@Killer_Manfred I think you may be over doing the spot removal a bit much. Have you considered running some board wipes? Anger of the Gods comes to mind but Damnation or Pyroclasm are other options.
Here's the list I ran with one change that I'll talk about in a moment.
I was running a 1/1 split of Nissa and Baby Jace but after casting Nissa I needed another one of her in the deck. Scry 2 every turn on a 3cmc 'walker is too good. Her ult ends games really fast too. Letting you stabilize with Assault while simultaneously applying pressure that smooths your draws is great.
Also of note, I only ran a 1-of cycle land. I saw it a couple times and never really needed to use it. I like the value of it but I generally want to be tapping out for Loam/proactive plays. Sitting on Deprive and then being able to draw EoT if they don't do anything is probably the dream but it doesn't seem worth disrupting the mana base to run more than 2-of it. Copperline Gorge could probably get cut for the second.
I had a good time playing the deck though. Beat Ad Nauseam, Merfolk, and a Painter'sServantCombo deck. Lost to Living End due to being greedy. Normally not a terrible match up but I wanted to jam Nissa into play just to see what would happen.
It's a bit late and I haven't gone through every recent post but I'll log on tomorrow and try and do a big response post. I'll try to get you guys some useful feed back/questions/comments. I'm glad to see activity still going on in this thread!
What is the reason for the 4 off deprive? Any use for the land coming back to your hand?
so how would you "rework" his deck? I feel that it lacks some kind of interaction.
no I haven't seen that mtggoldfish deck before. but cool:) I'm kinda caught in a limbo. I really wanna play magic. I just can't find the right deck. I had my thoughts on scapeshift. the loam+assault is just too cool to pass
I see your point. but I was thinking of going more a long game/controlling route. I might need to up my mountain count. but the idea is to control the board with assault. then dome your opponent with loam/valakut
well you would still run seismic as a removal. you could run Perilous Research as a draw engine. just to get more landspirits of your gy. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/splendid-assault-2/ this is just a quick mockup. it's not tested yet
Have anyone have problems with countryside crusher and magmatic insight? i've had that nonebo to many times today. So i'm actually thinking of cutting one of them.
Any thoughts?
Btw. Am i the only one who is excited about the new set? battle for Zendikar. I mean. it's a set that's "based" around lands
What do you guys hope to see in the set?
Loaming shaman for what purpose?:
I've actually only used it twice. Once to refill my library because i was very close to milling myself out. the 2nd time was because i wanted to force a Relic of progenitis pop.
I think blood moon seems out of place:
Might be true. I'm thinking of replacing them with hooting mandrils.
A 3rd molten vortex might be the way to go....
Everything sideboard releated is just a mess. i've been using it as a maybe board/sideboard for now. But i'm thinking of putting destructive revilry and a grafdigger's cage in. maybe something else that can gain me life. But i'm diffenly going to decrease my numbers of diffrent stuff.
I really like Eyes of the wisent because of my hatred to play against control i have not yet tried it in a Matchup though
So here is my newest version of a GR loam deck. I've been away from the deck for quite some time. But after molten vortex and magmatic insight came. I thought that i would give it a whirl again.
the two biggest problems i had with the deck some months ago was aggro and control. But i actually think that Molten vortex help alot against both matchups. I'm considering putting 1-2 Molten vortex into the SB just to help with the aggro MU's. Merfolk pretty much scoops to that card
@theflow: Hi. Ace1 pretty much explained the lands part.
I think gift of the estates is pretty hard to pull off because of the landbase that the deck runs. But could be good. it not to situational
I think a split of 4/3 og 4/2 would be good (seismic/vortex). and maybe one more vortex in the board. Molten vortex seems pretty good in the Aggro matchups which have been hard for me. Might even be good in the control matchups which have been even harder! but i doubt i would go 4/4. but commune with the gods if diffintly worth having!
Shooting swan with seismic to dredge a loam would be nice.. I was just wondering if it would be possible to make a temur list with that. Or if it would be to dudley. I'll se what I can think of and post it for some critique
Hey. I just saw Gerry Thompsons threat on Starcitygames. You think it would be possible to make a Temur loam deck with Swan of Bryn Argoll? not a deck with 40 lands. But a deck with 25-28 lands?
