I think he was trying to talk about the lack of Terminates and Abrupt Decays, but like you said with 6 Vortex/Assault, Flame Jab, Smallpox, and Pharaohs, I don't think they are necessary. Exarchs only take two lands to shoot down, and everything else up to 3.
Red should be burn, Goblins, Dragons, draw/discard, and Standard-unplayable 5CMC cards with insane, lengthy effects that take 10 minutes to figure out what they do and another 20 to actually make their effects work on the field.
That list looks pretty focused and well tuned, I like it. I am also pretty partial to the spicy Empty the Pits in the board, I wonder how that actually played out for him and if it is worth the slot or not.

Here's a rough draft for a Naya list I'm thinking of. I have done zero testing with it, but I can tell spell based combo (Storm, Ad Nauseam, etc.) will be a rough match up.
I'm not sure if it is even worth it instead of going creatureless Jund like mykatdied and using Decays, Crimes and Terminates over beaters and Path.

It doesn't seem necessary. I don't see any problems the card solves and pitching all your lands to a single spell could have consequences, and while it is arguably more "efficient" the ability just retarget with Vortex / Assault makes up for that.

I think the Jab / Early discard would be more of a meta call. If you have a lot of Affinity / Infect then I would prefer the Jabs for extra insurance of wiping them out, while in a more open meta the early game interaction with discard / Liliana would be preferred. I think I would lean more towards Liliana.
I do like your list though, for the side what about a Rakdos Charm or two? Storm made a decent showing in the Modern festival, and with Goryo not banned it may increase in popularity. Given that it lets you nuke an opponents graveyard, a 1/100000 chance of killing Twin, and extra artifact hate, I wouldn't feel bad about using it since it is so versatile.

Are you going creatureless then, other than the Manlands, and do you have a sample list by chance? I can see merit to dropping dudes since we can always recur man lands but to do the same with creatures we need some janky Haunted Fengraf.

Here is a 4C Gifts version I threw together, just to get an idea for how it looks. I'd like to put it together and play a couple games once I obtain the cards and see how everything goes.
I already expect for it to likely be too greedy and under-perform, but that is what testing is for

I think Vortex + Assault would be sweet in some 4C Gifts abomination.
A huge plus for Vortex is that it lets you shoot things early / dodges counters. Eating mana only sucks if you have other things you want to be doing, but again Vortex can come early and stall until you get Assault online for free activations.

I would replace looting with this. Actual card advantage with none of the downside of looting. If you are currently running ravings, this definitely replaces that. But pretty sweet turn 1 play knowing turn 2 you get the land back.
You could play both, ensures you have a T1 draw and pitching Lands is fine. This gets better late game while Looting will always have Flashback.

I think your deck fits better here: Junk Haakon Loam
That thread is all about what you are doing, Junk/Abzan colors with the whole dredge knight theme, while this one is about Loam + Assault.
