d0su! I almost lost you and this thread. Didn't knew Salvation were saved, so I moved to Nexus instead. And actually made my own thread for the deck.
About Torbran, he's stinky good! I won't be playing him in Squee though, but i have a Varchild deck that can go wide, and it's in such a deck I think Torbran will shine. What I'm really excited for in Squee is Thrill of Possibility. Not sure if I should cut Wild Guess for it, or if I want all the looting...
Yes, let's continue the discussion over there, the interface is better. I made an account early on but never got around to posting deck lists.
Thrill of Possibility is a lock, I will definitely be making room for it. Definitely keep the looting, but if you decide to cut one, then perhaps Control of the Court could be replaced.
Had my first game resolving Finale of Promise the other day. Was actually a bit reluctent about it after your comment, 'cus yeah, it reminds a bit of Mizzix's Mastery which I also have thought about cutting (I don't think I'm ever going to overload that thing - I don't I already have enough flashbacks?). But I was quite happy with Finale of Promise. We were down to two players. I had Stuffy on the bf, played Finale of Promise for x=10 targeting Inferno and Star of Extinction which dealt 78 damage to the opponent - actually 79 since I also tapped Stuffy. I properly would have won the game anyways, but it was a stylish win and I could see it doing some stupid things. Think I'll be added good ol' Lightning Bolt so I have a bit more instant-targets for it.
I have a similar story about Bonus Round. That card is bonkers. In a game where a Cromat voltron-deck just played Sphinx's Revelation for 11 and puts in Omniscience, which I luckily warped, I proceed to my turn with 10 lands, Ruby Medallion and Alhammarrets Archive in play. The Cromat dude got all kinds of things in play, creatures, pws, enchantments and I don't get to live another turn. So I play Bonus Round, then Past in Flames, play Last Chance from my grave, and then the funny part, Wheel of Fortune digging 28 cards deep. My hand of 14 includes Control of the Court which I play for my last mana, drawing 16, discarding 6. Next turn my yard is filled with all kinds of goodies and Repercussion in my hand. And then I won. Before that play I was actually thinking about cutting the Archive - but I think I'll be playing with it some more. Opens up for some crazy plays! And yeah, Last Chance also keeps impressing me.
Havn't really got a good story about Seismic Assault and it is on the bench for cutting, but it's there to throw away exess lands I draw from looting and with a play like the one I just desribed, Seismic Assault alone could properly have killed off the table. I think it's a more controlish piece then the big-play style I actually win by, so I'm quite torn about it.
Yes, I'll be adding Bonus Round, and keeping a close eye on Finale of Promise. I also agree with your decision to cut the cycling lands. I love cycling lands in EDH, some of the most subtle and underrated cards in the format IMO, but with all the mana doublers in this deck I'd usually rather have a basic land most of the time.
And rogerandover, about the forum closing -- will you be migrating to the new website when it becomes available, leaving for Reddit, or something else altogether? I'd hate to miss out on your insight!
Not much have changed, but just wanted to tell I still play this deck and still loving it. Newest add is Finale of Promise, which looks promising, though I havn't drawn it yet. I cut Commune with Lava for it, since it was always a bit odd to play. And this deck already draws a lot. Bonus Round is properly also a new add, though I've added it a while back. But again, same story, I havn't actually played the card yet. But I imagine it will be all kind of bonkers. As for the decklist, here goes:
Very nice. I'm interested to know how Finale of Promise works out for you. I haven't invested in this card yet, because I remember cutting Shreds of Insanity for only occasionally having two meaningful targets. I also recently cut Mizzix's Mastery to make room for Endless Atlas, and this card reminds me a lot of Mizzix's Mastery. Let me know how it goes.
Bonus Round seems like it might be really good here, though. I'm going to cut something for it -- It's a nice combo with Mizzix's Mastery, for what that's worth.
Seismic Assault is interesting. What's the best story you have from that card?
My two recent changes have been Mizzix's Mastery for Endless Atlas, and Burnished Hart for Worn Powerstone. Endless Atlas is great, you should try it. Worn Powerstone is just filler, but I'm finding it better than Burnished Hart. Burnished Hart was more on theme and randomly relevant with Valakut, but at the end of the day it's twice as much mana for the same amount of ramp compared to Worn Powerstone.
Last Chance continues to impress, as essentially a big ritual spell. I topdecked it the other day and it let me take the victory where I was otherwise dead to rights. Very stylish!
There sure is a place for such a great effect. It reminds me of Jalira, Master Polymorphist, and I think people would try to abuse her by getting a token into play and only have some big juicy fat in their deck she could tutor for. I imagine Reality Scramble should be played kinda the same. And I'm not sure I want to go through those hoops. I mean, it could totally do something awesome and crazy, but I think I would have to rearrange the whole deck, and I couldn't hold that to my heart.
And big question is, would it even work with Squee? Would his replacement effect make Reality Scramble fizzle?
Now I remember the game where I'd won with Last Chance. I played against Heartless Hidetsugu, since got out early in the game, starting to dump lives which he does so well. I don't know how low I was, but I had this "now-or-never" feeling, so it most have been pretty low. With on direct way of winning I play Last Chance with, if I recall correctly, both Wheel of Fortune and Mana Geyser in hand. Cast Geyser for a bunch of mana, Wheel to start the digging, which I find. That was roughly what happened, so I like getting a Last Chance, lol.
I think I agree with you. There are too many creatures (Shard Phoenix, Stuffy Doll, Magus of the Wheel) that I like too much to cut. For other readers, it should work though, since Reality Scramble doesn't check to see where the card went with an "if you do" clause.
That's a sweet Last Chance story. Mine is in the mail, hope I'll have more stories to share!
I have noticed a growing presence of U/x artifact combo decks, though. I'm cutting Coalhauler Swine for Goblin Trashmaster. TBH, the Swine usually underperformed anyway. (Also need to find room to sneak in an Endless Atlas here...)
(EDIT: still brainstorming the polymorph package, simply because I really like the card Hostility and never get a chance to play it. It is worth noting that Angrath's Marauders + Hostility is almost an auto-win with any burn spell.)
Death Spark was too situational, but it was cool. It was at its best when it would lock out random X/1 commanders, which happened exactly one game I can recall.
What do you think about reworking the creature base to accommodate Reality Scramble? Are there any shenanigans we could work in? Angrath's Marauders for example.
Following up, Direfleet Daredevil has been great. He often nets me ramp spells, tutors, and other things mono-red has no business casting. My only regret is that I have no way to recur him, but as a one-time value spell he is solid.
Speaking of which, he won me the last game I played by getting another player's Final Fortune, which was hilarious (to some). It made me want to revisit the Final Fortune idea, so I am cutting Magma Phoenix for Last Chance (which is a sorcery, so i can get it with Recoup if needed).
Haha, I did see the english releasenotes and Squee, the Immortal, but not that translation - it's glorious
Glad you still enjoy the deck. I do aswell, though it's pretty rare i get to play it. No changes for me, and I didn't notice anything in the Dominaria spoiler that I wanted for Squee. But I'm pretty glad with the state of the deck, so it will be hard to make cuts anyway.
Edit: on new-squee, yup Food Chain combo decks got a new toy, but maybe he could the voltron-commander that keeps coming back
I agree, it is very hard to find cards to cut these days. I recently added Dire Fleet Daredevil in place of Shreds of Sanity, which was one of the more hit-or-miss cards in the deck. Next cut is possibly Magma Phoenix, which is an all-star if the game turns into a grindy 1-on-1, but too mediocre at other times.
Did you see the Dominaria leak? Here is a translation from the original Chinese post (there are more accurate translations available now, but this one is better):
Not dead Squig
{ A } { red } { red }
Legendary creatures ~ ghosts
2/1
You can cast sphinx from your graveyard or exile.
I am definitely changing the thread name to "Not Dead Squig".
That is some great text. The ability makes him play a lot differently from the original since you can't just use him as discard fodder and turn red looters into better value. If you would change the deck to revolve around the new version, how would you do so?
The main advantage of the new Squee is being able to cast him multiple times in the same turn. I imagine Skullclamp and Shivan Harvest would be pretty powerful in such a deck.
More likely, it will end up being a combo piece for Food Chain decks.
BAHAHAHA, that's awesome! Mine has been sitting in my binder for a while now -- maybe I can finally move it.
Yes, I'm still playing Squee, it is my go-to deck whenever I get to play Magic. As a matter of fact, I killed someone a few weeks ago by dropping a Valakut mountain on them for 96 damage.

I'll let you know about the blasting cannons as I test it. Angrath's Marauders sure has a good effect, but I don't think it's worth playing. 7cmc is really steep, especially tacked on a fragile body. Well, I guess you have to pay big dough to get such a good effect. If it had flash, I definitely play it
You're probably right. Marauders stays on the bench i guess.
I got to cast my first Ixilan cards yeterday, and it was a good opportunity for this deck's strengths to really shine.
It was a 3-player game against Mishra stax and Nekusar wheels. Mishra locked up the game with an early Nether Void, enforcing Nekusar's mana screw and grinding everything to a snail's pace. Luckily, Shattering Spree works pretty well through a Nether Void, so I was able to keep the Mishra player in check, and I was able to out-grind everyone with Squee and Thawing Glaciers. A big Commune with Lava let me break out with O-Stone, and go for the combo kill with Star of Extinction!
Once upon a time, this deck was originally built to survive a playgroup full of MLD and hate. It was cool to see that side of the deck show itself again.
EDIT: Got in another game. Someone was forced to Pithing Needle my Hammer of Bogardan because it was keeping two players on lockdown
Recently, I've been playtesting on cockatrice with the changes, and boy do this deck still surprise me. And others too I guess I can't help myself to mention the most memorable game: a 3-player pod with Ruric Thar, the Unbowed and Obzedat, Ghost Coucil. The latter gets out Tree of Perdition on turn 2 after a turn 1 Sol Ring. And ofc I get targeted before his turn 4. I'm like, okay I'm losing, but that is actually a pretty funny card. Ozbedat then puts down The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale and commander comes out by turn 5. I'm not doing much, but I do have Terrain Generator and Armillary Sphere so I'm ramping a bit. Turn 6, put out Akroma, Angel of Fury morphed. Obzedats turn, he attacks me so I'm down to 8. Ruric hasn't been doing much, played his commader, which got removed by Obzedat, but then plays Scavening Ooze and removes Squee from my from my graveyard. My cheap chumpblocker now costs 5. Then he's plays Stranglehold and passes. I'm at 7 mana, need one to pay for Akroma, and wanted to cast Godo, Bandit Warlord to fetch Batterskull. Now I only have Stuffy Doll, which do give some kind of protection. I play it and pass. Obzedat comes into play, target Ruric, then plays Return to Dust, which removes my doll and Stranglehold, and the removes the Ooze with Vindicate. Ruric plays his commander, which doesn't worry me, because now I can play Godo, which I do. Next turn I move Batterskull onto Godo, attacks Obzedat gaining me 14 life, while he goes down to 15. Obzedat then plays All is Dust, leaving me Batterskull and Akroma which is still morphed. At my turn, I play Gaunlet of Might and attach Batterskull to Akroma, attacks Obzedat again, brinning him down to 5 and pass. Obzedat most be very salty at me, because he targets me with Identity Crisis and then scoops. Next turn I morph Akroma and Ruric also scoops.
I know this doesn't show any of the new cards, but in other games Primal Amulet have been great. A bit costly, but worth it. I've gotten Spitfire Bastion a couple of times, and that land is phenomable! It's other side is a bit bad, admittingly, but as of now, getting that land is worth it imo.
What a battle of attrition! It sounds like the entire world was against you, lol. Congratulations!
Wow, a bunch of new cool items for Squee in this set, at least for me. All DFC's
Primal Amulet/Primal Wellspring - I'm actually not sure if this will pull it's weight, but it looks cool. Copying some burn spells is never a bad thing Thaumatic Compass/Spires of Orazca - A Journey's Kite (which i don't run in the first place), but the Maze of Ith that also taps for mana seems like a welcomed land for my deck. I tend to get a lot of focus, since I don't run that many creatures. And searching for lands, which can either be played or sac'ed to Seismic Assault seems decent. Vance's Blasting Cannons/Spitfire Bastion - An Outpost Siege (since I would only use only use the khans), but with added benefit to maybe get a Lightning Bolt on a land. Getting there might take some effort, but I think it will be worth it.
I am not certain on Vance's Blasting Cannons. The land side is phenomenal, basically Valakut #2, but I do not play Outpost Siege since it is just a bit slow and messes with my sequencing. The fact that you cannot play lands off of VBC probably means it is a pass for me, but I can definitely understand why it could be included.
Thaumatic Compass is an easy pass for my build, I think. Squee and Wheel effects generate the raw card advantage, and this deck already does a great job of hitting all its land drops. Don't really want a Maze of Ith; I'd rather just burn the creatures or hide behind Glacial Chasm.
No, the biggest card I am excited for is Star of Extinction. I can't wait to smash someone with Repercussion or Stuffy Doll or whatever. It probably replaces Inferno, I guess, but that makes me sad because Inferno was the card that really inspired the deck.
Also worth noting is Repeating Barrage, the new Hammer of Bogardan variant. I am actually looking at this really closely, since looping Hammer usually happens in the very late game, and if you have at least 13 mana, this new card outperforms Hammer, since you can recur and/or cast it multiple times in the same turn. I will have to pay attention to whether or not Squee is available to attack in those scenarios.
Mirage Mirror is kind of tech I suppose. It could serve as a mana doubler if you can copy someone else's (there is really no need to have multiples in play on our side).
Scavenger Grounds is fantastic, but I will not include it here for the same reason I cut Relic of Progenitus a long time ago -- I probably value my graveyard more than anyone else at the table.
Thrill of Possibility is a lock, I will definitely be making room for it. Definitely keep the looting, but if you decide to cut one, then perhaps Control of the Court could be replaced.
I think I am going to cut Mogg Maniac, Goblin Trashmaster, Worn Powerstone, and something else. In their place I will add Thrill of Possibility, Dockside Extortionist, Treasure Nabber, and Bonus Round.
