You were a poor sport because you kicked someone out of the game. You lost the game, and instead of starting a new one you just threw him out. That's poor sportsmanship, even if combo'd out on turn 1.
So rather, I/we should just sit there and let it rape our faces? I mean, isn't it the same as when someone combos out early, but he leaves and lets us finish our game? At least that's how I perceived it.
If you commented differently people would have reacted nicer. I get your point, it happens. I've learned to be calm about pretty much everything. Overreacting isn't going to help the situation.
I don't know how I "over reacted". I commented on an awesome game state, and people said I was a poor sport because t3 Ulamog is a perfectly acceptable situation for people to be put in.
You sir don't know to handle to threats well. Edict, swords, fleshbag, dispatch, cryptic, capsize, path, sower of temptation, venser, Jace 2.0, Gilded drake, oblation, innocent blood, pox could all answer T4 Ulamog. People in my playgroup get him out on T3, no one seems to complain or freakout over here.
To be fair, the guy had the Lighting Greaves out to give him the haste and shroud. I had exactly four permanents out(thawing glaciers and three land) and he was swinging at me. None of those options work as he also had his general(he used staff to tuck my brother's Viashino Heretic that Merike stole) in the case of sac effects, and I was in Oros colours, I don't have access to cryptic and jace. If I did, I don't have the cash to buy those anyway.
You seem to misunderstand the scenario. If we wanted to play cutthroat combo decks that win on t4, that's fine, we would play 60 card Legacy or Classic and this wouldn't be a problem. This was myself, my brother, and a good friend of mine wanting to just have a good time and just kick back and relax. That's kinda the point of casual Commander; to be chill.
This guy obviously had other intentions and values a "win" in a casual format and environment as though it were a Heisman Trophy...which I would agree with him, had it been for some kind of prize money, reward, or some other kind of tournament recognition on the line.
Fourway game on MTGO. Merike vs Stonebrow(brother) vs Rubinia Soulsinger(friend) vs Oros, the Avenger(myself).
Merike got booted early by us for using Proteus Staff to cheat an Ulamog on the board, we weren't having any of that so he got ejected.
So just the three of us, I got some thawing glaciers action going, and stonebrow is stuck on like 5 or 6 lands, meanwhile Rubinia is playing Court Hussars and Mulldrifters. I'm keeping big threats in people's hands with a Soul Sculptor. Meanwhile Stonebrow gets a deadwood treefolk to recur garruk's packleader, with both of those on the board I sculpt one on his end step, then the other on my turn. Then cast Leave No Trace to 2-for-1 his creatures with my random enchantment removal.
Just funny to kill his guys with a card that doesn't normally kill dudes. Lol.
I was playing in an Emperor game last night, Jenara Enchantress ideal combo is the emperor for me to protect, the left flank is Rafiq of the Many(built like mythic conscription) and I'm the right flank with my newly made Uril, the Miststalker. Other side has Seton, Krosan Protector as the emperor, with an Azami, solitaire player on the left flank, and Skittles, the Poison dude on my side. Anyway, Skittles has Lightning Greaves on it, and I am at 5 poison. The Jenara emperor had just slid me a Mana Reflection last turn, so this turn I(obviously) drop Iona, Shield of Emeria into play and name black. He swings again, I block, and he regenerates, then passes. I draw Tooth & Nail, windmill slam Vigor, and start going crazy with Uril, equipped with Mage Slayer. Then the shenanigans happen. Next turn I top deck Aggravated Assault, cast entwined T&N, searching for Sun Titan(doesn't matter), and Totem-Guide Hartbeest. Totem-Guide gets Bear Umbra, and I use my last 4 to cast it on Uril, beat face for 9 of the Mage Slayer trigger, then make him chump Uril(and make him bigger because of Vigor). Post-combat my lands are untapped, so I cast Aggravated Assault and pay the 3RR to activate, and say I now have infinite combat. I will grind Skittles out, then I will infinitely attack Seton and eventually kill him. Even if you keep chumping Uril, Mage Slayer triggers will kill you.
I've been trying to do that combo for months and months in Stonebrow, Rith, and I never seem to draw all the pieces. So finally, I got to win via infinite combat. Yay! Go me! Irony came when the Azami solitaire player said "Uril is broken. He's the best general in the format. Your decks are too powerful, so fo course you won." Like, really? A Seton that spams the board with druids, hard casts multiple eldrazi in one turn, the infect dragon, and azami, lady of 40% counterspells, and you say our decks are "too good"?
So with all that, he complains about losing to a three card combo involving the combat phase that I only could do after resolving a 9cmc spell. Anyway, I'm so happy I got to pull off my infinite combat combo. Hooray for that. <_<
Eye of the Storm was on the table with, among other things, a Temporal Cascade and Recurring Insight under it. We each have 15 cards in our hand, and about 40 cards left in library. So my opponent casts some sorcery, choosing to recast Insight. In response, I cast Path to Exile targeting my own creature, and recast Cascade having us each draw 7 (22 cards in hand) then Insight (44 cards in hand). Then I let his Insight resolve, and he decks himself.
I proceed to play the skullclamp, tap my Sol Ring for 2 and use 1 to sac the ring to my Thopter foundry. I tap my salvaging station to return the ring to the battfield and use my remaining 1 from the first ring to equip the clamp onto the token, which nets me 2 cards and untaps my station. I ask if anyone has any disruption for this, and i get all nods, and then proceed to explain that I just won. I shortcut through the combo about 10 times until I hit my mana vault, and then swapped that in place of the sol ring, so I was generating free mana. I went through another 20 iterations to get some mana, then proceeded to sac 5 of my other artifacts to the foundry, and bin them, this time returning and activating a lotus petal for some colored mana. I used the mana to cast Disciple of the Vault, Sharuum the Hegemon, and lastly Sculpted Steel to seal the deal.
*Claps*
You sir, are winner. My hat goes off to you. I <3 me some artifact shenanigans. That is totally something I would do.
I think we're missing some information on that situation with the All Is Dust and It That Betrays. I keep going back to read it to see if I missed something and it seems like something just is missing. I mean, yeah, I'm aware of the interaction those two cards have with each other, but yeah...
I Knowledge Exploitation Rhys for Tooth and Nail Getting Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Stormtide Leviathan I Mow down rhys While tutoring for Leyline of Anticipation with The Liliana vess I had taken from Sedris Earlier courtesy of It that Betrays. When I turn my Attention to Sedris he casts Living death. He had traumatized himself earlier in the game. ten thousand triggers later All the creatures I got from living death are dead and he controls my it that betrays for the turn. I Flash Blazing Archon into play to stop him killing me. and on My next turn cast All it dust to jack him of everything. He responds with Twincast. Probably the first time twincasting a wrath effect has been usefull.
How was the twincasted all is dust useful again? because all is dust says "each player sacrifices all coloured permanents."
ANYway, the other two left in the game are Teeg and Vorosh. The game went back and forth for what seemed like an eternity. Anyway when I came back to it, I beared witness to the most epic Rite of Replication I've ever witnessed(even greater than the twincasted kicked Rite on a Mulldrifter)
Oh, Summer Bloom T2 is excellent. 5 lands, turn 2 in a five color deck? Yes please. Needless to say, that was a turn 5 Coalition Victory with Cromat in play.
You do know Victory is banned in EDH, right? Or were you guys using a different banned list?
So I set out to accomplish this awesome combo I just read about with Tooth & Nail last night...I bought a Primeval Titan earlier in the day before work, then put it in the deck and headed to work. After work I went down to my LGS and played some EDH. I was playing Rith, the Awakener. I wasn't able to pull it off at the shop, but after they closed me and my bro went to my friend Josh's house and played some Planechase EDH. Teeg vs Darigaaz vs Rith.
Well, Teeg is sitting good with Pentavus out with a Karmic Guide, and Genesis in the yard, Teeg on board. Darigaaz decides to Putrefy Teeg on his main phase and I take advantage on my turn(I could have killed Teeg on Darigaaz's EoT if needed anyway). I Wrath of God then entwine my Tooth & Nail that I've been holding since the beginning of the game, search up Primeval Titan and something else, use the spell to drop Titan and Realm Razer that was also in my opening hand. I stack the triggers so that Titan gives me lands after everything is exiled. When I hit five mana, I drop my Privileged Position to protect my combo. And the game is over with the lock. I tutor'd for Strip Mine on that round's attack while holding Naya Charm, Eternal Witness, and Life from the Loam in hand for it.
If I had enough of them, I'd probably run Phyrexian Tower in a good few of my decks just to stop Word of Seizing shenanigans, of course that's assuming they're stealing a creature as well.
Not to burst your bubble, but having a ready sac outlet isn't going to stop Word of Seizing since Word has split second. Yet another reason why Word was probably a less than a dollar rare in standard, but is so damned amazing for EDH. I play it in Heartless(obv, as any red esp mono-red should play it) and I have never been sad to see it.
This one happened after my last FNM, I went to my friend Josh's house and we stayed up until 5am playing EDH(the M11 prerelease being a few hours from now<_<). Anyway, my brother is playing Doran, the Siege Tower beats, Josh is playing Gaddock Teeg enchantress combo(mobilization, earthcraft, etc, etc) and I'm playing my new Malfegor deck. I start with turn 3 Phyrexian Arena, turn 4 Geth's Grimoire. Josh has Rites of Flourishing out to keep everyone's hand full(he's playing enough cards to stay around 4-5 or so and I'm lol drawing 3 cards/turn).
Anyway, I get to 8 or 9 mana, drop Cabal Conditioning with Artisan of Kozilek in play and make them both pitch their hand. Then I realized what just happened. I was just trying to get them on top deck mode without their hands, but I had the Geth's Grimoire in play...so I got to draw like 10 cards! Then I had to discard like 10 or 11 cards so I kept my Breeding Pit and a couple of tutors. I passed the turn to them and next turn, I was able to tutor for Contamination and cast it and the Breeding Pit in the same turn to lock them out. I took another swing and went to like 4. Then I cast Plague Wind for Doran's board and finished off Josh. My brother has no dudes and only black mana so he skips his draw with Island Sanctuary, then passes back. I lose to Phyrexian Arena because BRMalfegor can't hit enchantments >_>.
So rather, I/we should just sit there and let it rape our faces? I mean, isn't it the same as when someone combos out early, but he leaves and lets us finish our game? At least that's how I perceived it.
